You send it in to Remington to get it fixed. Google the recall notice.

Well, my model 700 7mm mg. was bought new approximately '74. First year I used it, it went off. My father took it to a local gunsmith and it never did it again. We tried to recreate the action. Nothing. According to the serial number, it is an early model 700 that should have the Walker trigger. Would like to see if what he did in '74, before the recall, might be a fix.

The real fix is to buy a Timney trigger and install it.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!

Just go to "Remington 700 Recall". It'll ask for serial #, then will tell if you're affected. I have a 1973 that's not. I think the recall is from 2004 or something. Had mine 44 years and never had a problem.

Your trigger probally has worn or possibly over oiled. I have seen this both happen with older 700 triggers. You can buy a real rice replacement for under 100 and it's only 2 pins and a few springs

Mines a '99-2000. Its exempt. Your '74 is more than likely good.

It's only the adjustable x mark pro trigger involved in the recall I believe ....
