Re: Law question regarding AR lower anodizing
If a brace touching a chin versus touching a shoulder is the difference in making a federal violation, it might logically follow that when the guy doing the work leaves you in a different room, a transfer has occurred. I'd be surprised if an owner of a hazardous materials business would let the general public in the room with the acids. Insurance probably requires separation.

Re: Law question regarding AR lower anodizing
The leaving the firearm stuff has to do with the gunsmith not the customer.
If a firearm can be fixed while the customer is present, or can be finished, customer present or not, by the end of the business day, it does not need to be entered into the gunsmiths A&D book. If it has to remain for a longer period the gunsmith has to log it in.
Here is what the BATFE says:
Does a gunsmith need to enter every firearm received for adjustment or repair into an acquisition and disposition (A&D) record?
If a firearm is brought in for repairs and the owner waits while it is being repaired, or if the gunsmith is able to return the firearm to the owner during the same business day, it is not necessary to list the firearm in the A&D record as an “acquisition.” If the gunsmith has possession of the firearm from one business day to another or longer, the firearm must be recorded as an “acquisition” and a “disposition” in the A&D record.
And what they say about doing gunsmith work:
Is a license needed to engage in the business of engraving, customizing, refinishing or repairing firearms?
Yes. A person conducting such activities as a business is considered to be a gunsmith within the definition of a dealer.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
