.32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
Question for the forum. My wife is ready to move on from a .22lr. I'm thinking of getting her a Ruger LCR .327 magnum, but have her shoot .32 S&W Long Colts and at some point in the future .32 H&R Magnums.
Do the .32 S&W Longs have a recoil that much greater that the .22lr's? How about the .32 H&R's?

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
I purchased a 327 LCR last year and it is a mighty fine revolver. 32 S&W Long is a great round for practice/range fun and getting acquainted with the gun. The recoil is greater but not much greater. However IMO .32 H&R is much greater, but not unmanageable by any means. I never fired 327 Fed Mag because I'm a bit recoil sensitive and was confident with the .32 H&R and kinda knew that was my limit. You really can't go wrong with the ammo options you have with the 327 LCR.

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
The only thing that hurts with .32s&w long is the price. Loaded to its max its still a 95 grain bullet at 900 fps, and you're not likely to find factory ammo loaded nearly that hot.

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
32 mag was my daughters first gun. She struggled a bit with 38 special so I got her the 32 mag. Shooting 32 long has a bit more recoil than 22 for sure, but definitely manageable. 32 mag just slightly more recoil. My daughter is very petite with small hands and she has no trouble with it at all. And the charter arms pink lady suited her to a tee .

Thanks all! You helped with my decision. I'm ordering up her new Ruger .327 mag. Now time to find some ammo :-).

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
Agreed that the 32 S&W long ammo can be hard to find. I had an old H&R revolver chamber in it. I could never fing long and had to always shoot short. It was not an accurate gun with shorts so I sold it. Shooting the longs did not produce much recoil even in a smallish gun. The shorts were barely above high velocity .22lr levels.
I had high hopes for the .327 Federal magnum but it seems to have not caught on much. Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
Yes, 327 mag not too terrible recoil, but more than 32 long or magnum. Ammo can be found, not everywhere but still available. I picked up a Taurus 327 mag a few years ago when they were "giving"!them away .

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
It is very easy to reload 0.32 Long. I have been doing it for years originally for a Nagant revolver before you could easily buy 7.92 Nagant or reload them. Dave_n

Re: .32 S&W and .32 H&R Question
.32 S&W long Colt.......Yipe!
Colt did load a cartridge that is identical to the .32 S&W Long; it is the .32 Colt New Police.
The .32 S&W Long is, these days, mainly a target load. Mostly it is loaded with full wadcutters. Very accurate.
Buffalo Bore, however, loads a SD variation: https://www.buffalobore.com/index.ph...t_detail&p=345Last edited by Pete D.; February 20th, 2017 at 07:41 AM.
