    Default Let's talk sonic cleaners

Currently I use two of these (one for cleaner and one for lubricating):

Kendal Industrial Grade 160w 2.5 liter heated ultrasonic. These must be made in China and rebranded, you see the exact cleaner with many different names on it. I been using the same ones for 2 years and never had any trouble with them. If they were larger, they would be perfect.

This spring I want to upgrade to something larger. What's everyone's favorite larger cleaner? Anyone use this:
Hornady Lock N Load Hot Tub for Sonic Cleaners

Ultrasonics direct has single and dual tank weapons cleaners.
These are not hobby grade systems.

My gunsmith has one of the $12,000 units.
Yes, that's $12,000, but I know if I had the money you have invested in those full auto fun toys I sure wouldn't be looking at cheap plastic hobby units.

The one he has is simply amazing.
Pull the stock on a filthy dirty 10/22 and after a half hour to an hour in a hot bath it's amazing to take it out and see all that caked on lead simply gone.

His unit is about ten years old and still works like it did when new.

You could not only clean your company guns, but also offer the service for others.

I use the Hornady sonic cleaner at work. I've cleaned my G19 and AR15 upper and it definitely gets the parts clean. For a higher end hobby grade cleaner, it's very good. Not sure if you can fit an AR upper more than 16", you prob can get an 18" in there, you may have to take the muzzle device off however.

Just a word of advice, if you have trijicon HD night sights, remove the front one as the sonic cleaner has started eating the outter film of the front sight, still works without any problem, just cosmetically not as nice looking as once was.

As Flathead stated, hobby cleaners are just that. Esp the Harbor Freight rebranded ones.
Get a dual tank, hot water in one and oil in the other.

Soak them in hot water to buzz and fizz for a while, clean/pick at stubborn carbon/wipe and stuff off anything that wont "fizz" off and then toss them in the warm/hot oil.

Take a look at these guys as well

Use caution on aluminum and painted surfaces. More so your actual cleaning agent.
The ultrasonic action mixed with the right (wrong) chemicals will eat aluminum and also removes paint very quickly.
Pretty sure Simple Green makes an aluminum safe product now for aircraft. Or maybe its Purple Power.

I'd be scared to use purple power. Seen it start to go after the paint on an ambulance. Odiously the truck had not been properly clear coated, but still. Simple green never did that.

(bugs are awful on a flat front).

    Try a product called "Buster"
My local auto parts store, not Advanced or Auto Zone, carry's it in spray bottles or 5gal buckets.
The stuff is awesome on tar, bugs, and road grime and wont damage paint.
    Great wheel cleaner too

Same Question as WCMG, does anyone own a Hornady hot tub sonic cleaner??

I am thinking of this one as well , Main use would be Guns, Brass and more importantly suppressors. My .45 and .30 you cannot disassemble for cleaning and sonic cleaner is suggested for them.

WCMG check places like Natchez , I believe they are cheaper than amazon.

Expensive hobbies sometimes require expensive maintenance.

For brass cleaning I made my own wet tumbler.
Steel pins, Water, Lemishine and a few drops of Dawn.
I can run 500 pieces of .223 at a time in mine.

My son gave me a sonic screwdriver, but it doesn't do a thing for my guns.
