Unless you live in the woods or a castle. Your neighbors are not going to appreciate the arrival of the bullet after you finish dispatching said intruder.

I never realized that .308 was such a powerhouse round, capable of traveling through multiple walls of old, quality, red brick, and still maintaining enough velocity to wipe out all the children in another home.

Does the military know about this round of death and destruction?
    They should look into it.

I do have a 12 gauge as my primary home defense weapon and my 45 as secondary. I doubt the 308 would ever be used for such a purpose, but ya never know. It would mainly be used for hunting and target practice.

Or a 20mm Anzio...... You aren't surviving a shot in the chest with one of those either.
I don't think about that, can I get one for around $700. LOL jk.

You need one of these facing the most likely avenues of approach. In a pinch you can use it to shoot open bank vaults.

DPMS is probably your best bet, as for a home defense gun, well that's up to you. It would not be my first choice for home defense, but great all around hunting caliber.

there was a guy on classifieds with a $550 DPMS Oracle in 308 that seemed like a good deal. I went a different route and am enjoying a Century C308. Not great accuracy but no problem ringing 8" steel at 200 yards and mags are cheap as can be.

You can actually get a .50 BMG for about that price. Yes.

You can? A complete 50 for 700 bucks? Is this something you'd want to stick your face behind?
