Off-duty sheriff’s deputy shoots, wounds man in Manassas
WASHINGTON — An off-duty Prince William County sheriff’s deputy confronting a group of individuals fighting in a Manassas apartment complex shot and wounded one of the suspects, police said Friday.

Officers were called to the Fields of Manassas apartments in the 7400 block of Willoughby Lane around 11:15 p.m. Thursday to investigate calls of gunfire.

When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital and later released.

Further investigation revealed that a large group of people had gathered at the apartment complex and were fighting.

Police say that, at some point, someone in the group pulled out a gun and fired multiple times into the air.

That prompted several residents to call the Public Safety Communications Center.

Before Prince William police arrived, a security resident of the apartment complex, identified as an off-duty Prince William County sheriff’s deputy, confronted multiple individuals who were fleeing the scene.

That’s when the deputy, who was armed and not in uniform, fired a handgun and struck the man initially located by officers.

Prince William County police arrived shortly after.

A police K-9 and helicopter from Fairfax County police helped search the area for those involved in the fight. Multiple people were subsequently detained.

The Prince William County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a separate administrative investigation into the incident.

The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the criminal and administrative investigation.

Below is a map of the area where the incident occurred.

South Bend shooting death ruled justifiable homicide

SOUTH BEND — No charges will be filed in the Tuesday shooting death of 18-year-old Lamar Foster.

After reviewing the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit's investigation, it was determined the shooting constituted a justifiable homicide, according to a news release from the prosecutor's office.

Around 9 a.m., South Bend police were called to the 1700 block of Pulaski Street to find Foster dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Foster and the person who eventually shot him had a documented history of domestic violence in which Foster was the perpetrator, according to the release. The other party was not identified because they are not being charged with a crime.

The person who shot Foster lives on Pulaski Street. In the early hours on Tuesday, Foster reportedly armed himself with a firearm and entered the home of the person who shot him. He entered through a bedroom window without permission, according to the release.

Foster reportedly battered the other party and held the firearm to the person's head and threatened to shoot. Other people were in the home at the time and Foster eventually put down the weapon and left.

The other party took the gun to their car. Foster returned around 9 a.m. and again confronted the person. Witnesses told police they saw Foster standing over the person as they sat in the vehicle. Foster reportedly again attacked the person, which is when the person discharged the gun from within the car. Two shots were fired and Foster was hit once in the chest.

The person told police when they fired they were in imminent fear of death, according to the release.

"The witnesses and physical, digital and forensic evidence establish that the situation that led to the shooting was brought about by Mr. Foster, and his death was a direct result of those actions," according to the release.

The incident is the latest in a string of violent robberies and assaults that have happened in oak lawn in recent weeks which have the neighborhood on high alert.

“Everyone's on heightened alert down here. We saw this several years ago, the string of robberies and attacks down here. We're paying very close attention as a community down here to this string of robberies and assaults,” said co-founder of neighborhood watch group Take Back Oak Lawn Lee Daughtry.

Reps with the group say they're working to get emergency call boxes installed in the area and plan to have increased volunteer patrols, especially on busy weekend nights like tonight.

Residents and business owners have also met with Dallas Police for crime watch meetings and a town hall multiple times in the last few weeks to talk strategy and crime prevention.

Mysterious, wolf-like animal shot in central Montana, DNA tests underway
Posted 7:39 pm, May 26, 2018, by Associated Press
DENTON, Mont. (AP) — A central Montana rancher shot a wolf-like animal after it was spotted in a pasture with livestock, but a closer look prompted state wildlife officials to take DNA samples to determine what type of animal it was.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks regional spokesman Bruce Auchly said the animal’s front claws and canine teeth are too short and its ears are too tall in proportion to its skull for it to be a purebred wolf.

The animal was shot on May 16 near Denton.

Wolf management specialist Ty Smucker says the animal could be a wolf-dog hybrid. The DNA tests haven’t been returned.

Warden Zach Norris says the rancher was within his rights to kill the animal because it was seen near livestock, domestic dogs and children.

Thief sues after being shot while robbing store

    By Kathianne Boniello
Thief sues after being shot while robbing store
He’s a lousy crook — and an even worse jailhouse lawyer.

A bumbling Long Island liquor-store thief who got caught stuffing bottles of hooch in his pants, only to be shot by the store’s owner as he tried to get away, wants $2.7 million for his injuries.

But Shawn Harris can’t even get the name of the store or the shooter right.

In the handwritten lawsuit he filed himself, Harris describes in detail how he and a pal ripped off the store on Newbridge Road in North Bellmore, LI, in August 2016, starting in the “Hennesey [sic] and Patron section.”

Harris “removed 4 bottles of liquor and I put 2 bottles in my pants and walked to pay for the other 2 bottles and [the store owner] asked for I.D. and I told him I need to go to the car and get my I.D. and I went outside and Dropped the 2 Bottles,” he wrote.

Harris, who was with two pals, was trying for another two bottles when the store owner — who he names as “Lan Dong Dong” of Grapes & Grains, in Baldwin, LI — followed the three men outside.

We was followed outside and the store owner pulled out a handgun and stated give me the bottles back,” Harris writes in the Brooklyn federal-court lawsuit he filed from his cellphone in the Nassau County Correctional Center.

The owner struggled with the men, trying to grab the keys from their car’s ignition before opening fire.

“During this the store owner shoots my friend and he confronted me outside the car and shot me also and I ran off,” Harris writes. “I was shot by Lan Dong Dong in my right shoulder and I did not receive medical treatment because I was scared of Getting Arrested . . . so I did my own medical treatment.”

But the theft actually occurred at a store called Newbridge Wine & Liquors, in North Bellmore — not Grapes & Grains, and Lan Dong Dong isn’t the owner who shot Harris, according to reports.

“I want to be compusated [sic] 2.7 million dollars for my injuries,” Harris wrote.

Dong, who owns Grapes & Grains, had heard of the Newbridge robbery but said his store hadn’t been robbed.

“I don’t know how he got my name and store name,” Dong told The Post.

One man was arrested at the time of the 2016 incident, while Harris was caught later and pleaded guilty in November to petty larceny. He was sentenced in January to six months in jail

Worcester store clerk shoots suspect in attempted robbery
    May 27, 2018
A man who tried to rob a Worcester grocery store, holding a knife to the neck of a customer, was shot by a store clerk Saturday night, police said.

At 8:40 p.m., Juan Ahorrio, 26, of Worcester, entered the No Name grocery store with a large knife and held it to the neck of a woman who was shopping in the store, according to a police statement. The clerk responded by pulling out his personal gun and firing three shots at the suspect after the customer fell to the ground.

Worcester police said Ahorrio ran out of the store, but the clerk chased him and ordered him to drop to the ground while the clerk checked on the safety of the woman who’d been accosted and another customer. According to police, the clerk and the two customers were not injured.

Responding officers found Ahorrio on Vernon Street with three non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived to treat Ahorrio and transport him to a hospital, where his booking procedure was conducted.

Police detectives confiscated the clerk’s gun and license to carry while the investigation is underway.

Police: Lakeland woman shoots man who broke into bedroom through window
    Credit: Lakeland Police Department
LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) - Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Monday morning in Lakeland.

Officers responded to Kansas Avenue around 5:15 a.m. after taking a call about a man who had broken a window in a woman's apartment.

A responding officer said he heard two gunshots as he arrived at the scene.

The officer says he then saw the suspect, 26-year-old Ronald Williams, walk out into the street with an apparent gunshot wound to his knee. Williams was then taken away to be treated by first responders.

The victim later came out of her apartment and told officers that Williams had broken her bedroom window and climbed through. The victim says, in fear for her safety, she shot at Williams several times and hit him twice.

Police say Williams had threatened the woman in the past and that she was so concerned she had friends staying with her.

Williams was arrested for burglary and battery. He is still being treated for his injuries and is expected to be okay.
