Good samaritan saves man and pregnant wife being held at gunpoint in east Memphis
A man and his pregnant wife are safe thanks to the heroic actions of a good Samaritan who stepped in as they were being robbed.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man and his pregnant wife are safe thanks to the heroic actions of a good Samaritan who stepped in as they were being robbed.

It happened Sunday in the 1300 block of Walnut Hall at the Lynnfield Place Apartments.

The couple told police they were unloading groceries when two suspects jumped from a Toyota Camry and rushed them. The first suspect held a gun to the wife's head as the second rummaged through the man's pockets. That second man's gun was pointed at the husband's stomach, police said.

“All of the sudden when we walked towards our door, two guys ran up behind us here and they told us to drop everything,” said the man, who wanted to be identified only as "Cadillac."

“I was just worried about my wife and my unborn child. She's due in two weeks."

A neighbor, who is in the National Guard, saw the incident in progress and took action. Authorities said he grabbed his own gun and charged the suspects, causing the first suspect to take off running.

“He hopped out with his gun and told him to drop it.”

That’s when one of the suspects started shooting. Cadillac grabbed his own gun and fired back.

Despite being ordered to drop his gun, the suspect pointed the weapon at the good Samaritan and returned the gunfire.

In the subsequent shootout, one of the men - identified as Chauncey Davis - was injured.

Davis went to St. Francis Hospital where he was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

The second suspect has not been identified at this time.

Cadillac thinks if his neighbor didn’t intervene, it’d be a much different story.

“He saved our life. I’m thankful, very grateful.”

He said he and the neighbor already had a good relationship, but now it’s even stronger.

“Yeah, it is. He’s a part of my family.”

Prosecutor won't file charges in strip club shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Prosecutors say they will not file charges against a security guard involved in a deadly shooting outside a strip club.

We showed you surveillance video of the fight inside the World Famous Show Club back in March.

That fight spilled into the parking lot and that's when the guard shot John T. Doe who was shown on video chasing others with a gun.

On Wednesday, prosecutors told us the guard was justified in that shooting.

Police: Intruder shot at North Little Rock home
    LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —

Police are investigating after a person said he shot an intruder at a North Little Rock home Tuesday morning.

Officers were called at 11:04 a.m. to 33 Somerset Drive, just west of Camp Robinson Road. They learned that someone had kicked down the front door, entered the home and been shot by a resident, according to department spokesman Sgt. Amy Cooper. The resident reportedly warned the intruder that he was armed before opening fire.

Cooper said police found the intruder being treated at an area hospital.

Further details, including the identities of those involved in the shooting, were not immediately released.

Cooper said an investigation is ongoing.

Serrano attempted break in prompts quick response
    Dawn Hodson
What was initially reported as an active shooter situation Tuesday morning, turned out to be a case of someone trying to break into cars in Serrano near Villagio Drive.

El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies responded in force at 6:49 a.m. to reports that an African-American man with deadlocks was in the surrounding area and was carrying a gun.

However, it turned out that the man trying to break into cars did not have a gun and instead it was a resident who confronted the suspect who had the gun.

“It was a big nothing,” said Lt. Bryan Brown of the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office.

Following the incident the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement: “Thank you Serrano community members for your patience this morning with today’s incident. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office was originally called by multiple members of the community regarding multiple and various, descriptions of crimes. These included included possible domestic violence involving the brandishing of a black handgun and possibly associated with vehicle burglaries. With multiple callers and information providing different and sometimes conflicting reports, our response was made to insure the community safety. Upon arrival, a man matching the suspect’s description fled on foot from EDSO deputies into neighboring backyards.

“After a thorough investigation on scene, it was ultimately determined that the original described suspect had been seen breaking into vehicles. This suspect was then confronted by a homeowner with a firearm. All of this was viewed and reported by additional community members. At the same time this was learned by EDSO, it was determined that the suspected burglar was hiding in a house on Archetto Drive. Once this information was verified the call was downgraded from an armed suspect to a vehicle burglary investigation.

EDSO deputies and detectives continued to work the case, identifying 18-year-old Brandon Rupchock as the suspected vehicle burglar. Brandon is in EDSO custody and there are no additional outstanding subjects regarding this investigation.”

Oklahoma County DA clears two civilians who "neutralized" Louie's shooter

The two armed civilians who fired upon the Louie's shooter were justified in their actions and very likely saved lives, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater has decided.

The DA notified Bryan Whittle and Juan Carlos Nazario of his decision Friday in emotional phone calls.

The gunman, Alexander C. Tilghman, had fired toward the entrance of the Louie's Grill & Bar at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City the evening of May 24. The civilians confronted him a short distance away.

Tilghman was killed after firing again during the confrontation.

"Both of the armed civilians shot at Tilghman in an attempt to defend themselves and others against Tilghman's deadly threat," the district attorney said in a news release Monday.

"The two civilians who engaged, and ultimately neutralized the threat posed by Tilghman, were justified and compliant with the law when they employed deadly force," Prater said.

A police investigation determined Tilghman fired without warning at a mother, her two daughters and another girl as they walked up to the popular restaurant.

Three in the group were hit, and Prater described the gunman's action as a murder attempt.

Tilghman was shot at least three or four times in a grassy area a short distance from the restaurant, according to police reports. Both civilians fired at him after he shot at Whittle.

Police reported Tilghman was wearing ear protection, safety glasses, a white shirt and khaki pants.

Prater said, "It should be noted that both of the civilians who neutralized Tilghman had received significant firearms training and employed tactics that lessened the potential that their use of deadly force would harm innocent bystanders."

Whittle, 39, of The Village, is a master sergeant in the Oklahoma Air National Guard and has been deployed overseas to hostile areas. Nazario, 35, works as a security guard.

Whittle drove up to Louie's after seeing people fleeing toward Lake Hefner. He thought someone had drowned and went to help.

Told a girl had been shot, Whittle grabbed his .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol and ran toward the gunman. He stayed in the parking lot, using vehicles as cover.

He told police he yelled at the shooter to put the gun down, to get down and to stop, according to police reports. He told police the gunman raised his pistol to fire. He described the gunman as having "glazed eyes."

He told police he dove to the ground for cover as the shots went off then got back up to confront the gunman again. He told police he believes he shot three times as the gunman began raising the pistol again.

"I just reacted," Whittle told The Oklahoman in May. "I just did it. I wasn't thinking about anything other than I had to stop this guy and I'm not going to die here."

Police made special note that Whittle during his interview about the shooting said "this situation was not what other guys might think."

"Everything sucks about this," Whittle told police.

Asked Monday about getting the phone call from the district attorney, Whittle said, "I just feel relieved that it was behind me. It just gave me closure."

    (Story continued below...)
Nazario told police he was sitting with a friend on a park bench facing Lake Hefner when he heard the gunshots.

He went to his car and retrieved his .40-caliber Glock pistol, then went into Louie's and asked customers, "Where's he at?" according to police reports.

He went outside again after seeing the front glass door of the restaurant had been shot out. He said he saw the gunman fire twice at Whittle so he returned fire.

"Carlos believed he fired two rounds and thought he hit Tilghman in the leg and side of his chest," police reported.

Tilghman, 28, of Oklahoma City, died at the scene. He had posted videos on YouTube about his beliefs demons were everywhere.

He had pleaded for help in April on YouTube, saying he was "under hard-core demonic attack."

A Louie's waitress who witnessed the final confrontation told police she never heard the gunman say anything.

After Prater's announcement Monday, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt revealed he had previously expressed the city's gratitude to the two men "but could not do so publicly until the District Attorney made his official determination."

"Now we can say without reservation to Juan Carlos Nazario and Bryan Whittle: THANK YOU," the mayor wrote on Twitter.

Man shot in Sachse parking lot pulled gun on 2 others selling motorcycle, police say
    43 min ago

A Dallas man was shot by two men outside an auto-parts store in Sachse on Monday night after he confronted them with a handgun, police say.

Sachse police answered a call around 10 p.m. in the 5100 block of State Highway 78 after witnesses reported hearing gunfire. They found 21-year-old Devonte Marshall, who had been shot, in a parking lot.

According to police, Marshall approached the two men as they were selling a motorcycle. Marshall took out a handgun, police said, and the two others started firing at him.

The two men, whose names have not been released, were both licensed to carry handguns, police said.

Marshall was taken to a local hospital for surgery and is expected to survive, police said.

The two other men were detained for questioning. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

HIGH POINT, NC (WFMY) - A High Point man was charged with attempted murder in connection with a June 11 home invasion.

Karon Koseem-Williams Lynch, 29, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree burglary. Lynch received a 5 million bond and was placed in the Davidson County Jail.

Witnesses say five men broke into a home on the 800 block of Fisher Ferry Street last week and started shooting according to a release from Thomasville Police. The victim returned fire, causing the men to leave.

When police arrived around 12:30 a.m., they found a man on the front porch of the home had been shot. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Five other people were inside the home at the time. Police say and no charges will be filed on the victim for shooting in self-defense.

Detectives learned Lynch was dropped off at Thomasville Medical Center and responded to the hospital where they identified him as a suspect. Lynch was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist. Lynch sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and walked out of Wake Forest Baptist Sunday morning. He was taken into custody Monday shortly before 5 p.m.

Investigation results of Spring Valley shooting involving attempted murder suspect

Troy Mobley, one of three suspects allegedly involved in a shooting that took place in the Prescott Valley area early Tuesday morning, June 12, was shot and killed at a Spring Valley home later that day. Detectives have released the findings of their preliminary investigation into his death.
Detectives with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) believe they know what led to the death of Troy Mobley, one of three suspects allegedly involved in a shooting that took place in the Prescott Valley area early Tuesday morning, June 12.

Later that Tuesday, Mobley went to the home of someone he knows on Meadow Lane in Spring Valley just after 8 p.m., YCSO said. The homeowner’s wife initially spotted him wearing a wig in their backyard.

Knowing that Mobley was a suspect in the earlier shooting and possibly armed, the homeowner went outside and told him to leave, YCSO reported.

Mobley immediately struck the homeowner in the mouth with a soda can, then reached into his pocket, YCSO reported. The homeowner, now armed, considered the likelihood Mobley was reaching for a firearm and shot him. At that time, the homeowner’s wife and several small children were in the home.

Detectives determined Mobley was not armed when he was shot. The homeowner suffered injuries and was treated at the scene. No arrest was made at the time. Mobley was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital where he later died.

The incident remains under review and the documented investigation will be submitted to the Yavapai County Attorney to determine if any charges will be filed against the homeowner.

The original victim from the shooting incident in the Prescott Valley area earlier that day has since been released from the hospital.

Possible wolf-hybrid escapes Weld County backyard, terrorizing neighbors for a week
Once a home of at least three dogs and an owner is now a dirt lot with one lone wolf.

WELD COUNTY - Residents in a neighborhood near Greeley have kept their pets close and kids closer this week after one of two possible dog-wolf hybrids escaped a backyard there.

A homeowner shot and killed the animal Tuesday after it killed three of their lambs.

“We’ve known that the male wolf has been out and we know that the wolf is aggressive and the whole neighborhood has been in fear of all of our animals and children,” said Meg Dillon, who lives across the street from the home where the animals live.

The possible hybrid attacked and killed Dillon’s small dog, Moose, on Monday -- a day before the shooting.

“Yesterday he got a hold of my pup. Right in front of my husband. They’re fast and they’re furious and they took our buddy.”

According to a press release from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the veterinarian who cares for the dogs says they’re listed as German Shepherds but may be part wolf.

The dog’s owner, Joseph Givan, was arrested for DUI at the end of April and has been in jail ever since. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says his family has arranged for someone to stop by and feed the animals.

Joseph Givan, was arrested for DUI at the end of April and has been in jail ever since. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says his family has arranged for someone to stop by and feed the animals.

Neighbors say Givan and his dogs have been a problem since he moved in. There have been at least 20 calls for service on Dilmont Street regarding Givan’s dogs since 2012.

Rita Aneshansel lives next door to Givan. She’s a dog lover herself and says a couple of years ago, her dog ended up in Givan’s yard and one of his dogs killed hers. She says a couple years ago, her husband was bit by a third dog that later got loose.

“He was out on the street here chasing people around. People were yelling and screaming, 'call animal control! He’s out! He’s out!' Aneshansel said. “He was just terrifying everyone.”

Aneshansel says animal control ended up tranquilizing that dog, killing it. Animal Control has not responded to 9NEWS request for comment.

People on Dilmont Street say something should have been done about these animals a long time ago. They say Givan’s home is in shambles; the yard is a mess and he’s been in jail since late April.

They also are upset by how long the latest escaped dog roamed free. But the Sheriff’s Office says Animal Control spent hours trying to track the dog and that they hit it three times with a tranquilizer dart.

The statement put out by the agency late Tuesday says the dog did not seem to be fazed by the tranquilizer and got away, only to be shot and killed by the owner of the lambs.

The statement said the office is still investigating and determining if criminal charges will be filed.

Aneshansel can see the remaining dog, a gray female who also appears to be a wolf-hybrid, from her window. The dog paces the yard full of trash, up and down the mounds of mud.

Once a home of at least three dogs and an owner is now a dirt lot with one lone wolf.

Police Say Small Town Corner Store Owner Shot Man in Self-Defense

Police Say Small Town Corner Store Owner Shot Man in Self-Defense

GUINDA -- Guinda is the kind of town where everybody knows each other.

So, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't know Wyatt Kline, the man who bought the Corner Store two years ago.

"It was good, 'cause when they closed it down and sold it, he reopened it. It's basically the only thing here besides the casino," said 46-year-old resident Robert Dunham, laughing.

It was Tuesday night when deputies were called out for shots fired out at Guinda's Corner Store following some kind of confrontation.

Investigators say Kline shot a man twice, hitting him in the stomach and arm. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Kline was not arrested following the shooting. While the case is still under investigation, the sheriff's department said that it was likely a case of self-defense when an assault occurred inside the store.

Workers at the store say Kline hasn't been back to work since the shooting. FOX40 went to his Woodland home but no one was there.

"He's just... he's a nice guy as far as all that goes. I've seen... he's pretty calm about everything," said Ron, a friend of Kline's.

It was a sentiment echoed by everyone FOX40 spoke to Thursday in and around town.

"From what I see, he's a laid back kinda guy," Dunham said. "I've known him for a few years. He's a good guy."

Kline retired as a battalion chief from the Woodland Fire Department 10 years ago after climbing the ranks in a span of nearly 40 years. His work as a first responder has been recognized by the American Red Cross.

He's also been given an award by the Capay Valley community for his work after reopening the corner store.

"He's been a good person ever since. I've known him for a long time and he's a good guy," Dunham said. "Everything he does turns good. I never seen him get aggressive with nobody."
