BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A truck is being examined as part of a home invasion investigation in Cal City.

California City Police and Kern County DA investigators believe the truck was used in the Dec. 29, 2017 near Hacienda Boulevard.

The vehicle was located abandoned near North Edwards by a Sheriff's deputy.

Police found evidence inside the vehicle that may help identify the suspects.

A homeowner was awakened by a truck trying to drive through the victim's home. Police say that after the truck rammed the home several times, the homeowner grew fearful for his family's safety inside of the home and opened fire with a handgun as the truck was accelerating toward the home.

Police interviewed the homeowner and the homeowner was released at the scene. No one inside of the home was injured.

Officials then followed a blood trail away from the home but were unable to locate the suspects or the truck used during the incident.

The case is still under investigation.

Cleveland police sergeant working off-duty shoots, kills man at Corner Alley after being attacked

CLEVELAND - A Cleveland police sergeant shot and killed a man at The Corner Alley restaurant in University Circle on Saturday night, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

The department said a fight broke out inside the bowling alley and the officer, who was off-duty working part-time at Corner Alley, escorted several men outside and away from the premises.

One of the men who was escorted out then came back and began fighting with the officer, physically assaulting him, according to police.

The officer fired his gun striking the man.

He was taken to University Hospitals where police said he was pronounced dead.

The officer also sustained injuries during the altercation and was taken to the hospital.

Police said members of the Use of Deadly Force team responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

Neither the name of the sergeant nor the man killed has been released at this time.

Man shoots suspected robbers at his home

Police say a man turned the tables on two boys who tried to rob him Saturday night.

The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. in front of a home on Glen Arbor Drive by east Ledbetter Drive and south Marsalis Avenue in the southeast Oak Cliff area of Dallas.

The man said he fought the two young robbers and ended up shooting both of them. A third person drove them to the hospital.

Their condition is unknown.

Police are investigating. They say the boys will face charges but they don't expect the homeowner to be charged.

Gun-carrying customers at SC dealership held attacker at gunpoint until cops arrived

A pair of customers legally carrying guns held a pipe-wielding attacker at bay at a York County car dealership until police arrived in a December incident where the suspect threatened to kill dealership employees, prosecutors said in court Friday.

Alonzo Seegars, upset with service at Stateline car dealership on Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill on Dec. 21, arrived armed with a pipe wrench, said Aaron Hayes, 16th Circuit assistant solicitor. Seegars told a service employee, “I know who you are and you are a dead man,” then “threatened to kill” a female employee, Hayes said.

Seegars then shouted out “Watch this!” as he smashed at least three vehicles with the pipe wrench, Hayes said.

Two customers, whom prosecutors said had legal concealed carry permits and were armed legally at the time, intervened and “held Mr. Seegars at bay” with the handguns at the crowded dealership until police arrived, Hayes said. York County deputies tackled Seegars after using an electric stun gun. Seegars suffered a broken leg in the scuffle.

Seegars, 29, was in court Friday because he wanted bond after the Jan. 2 arrest. Seegars said he is a “nightclub promoter” from Charlotte but is originally from Lancaster. Seegars spent most of the hearing in a chair because of his broken leg.

Seegars’ lawyer, Creighton Hayes of Rock Hill, said Seegars was “in a state of extreme mental distress” during the incident Dec. 21. Hayes conceded in court the vehicles were damaged, but said the attempted murder is an “over charge” because no one was harmed or hurt.

Yet an employee, whose name was not used in court because of his fear of Seegars, said in court Friday that Seegars had previously threatened people at the dealership, and on Dec. 21, backed him into a corner with the pipe wrench before a profanity-laced tirade of death threats and smashed cars.

“He scared a lot of people,” the employee said in court.

Visiting Judge Benjamin Culbertson said Seegars has a right to bond before trial and set the bond at $25,000 on the five felony charges Seegars faces. Culbertson put restrictions on the bond that Seegars have no contact with the dealership or victims.

Seegars was not taken to jail Dec. 21, but hospitalized for physical and mental health reasons after police took him into custody that day, testimony showed Friday. However, even though York County deputies told hospital officials in Charlotte that police had arrest warrants against Seegars and wanted to charge him before release, Seegars was discharged from a Mecklenburg County medical facility Dec. 30, testimony showed.

Seegars was served the warrants for the December incident Jan. 2, but only after after he allegedly went to his former place of employment in Fort Mill. Police were called because of a disturbance and found Seegars was wanted, incident reports show.

In this story an armed citizen came home to find a burglar in his house. He tried to hold the burglar at gunpoint but the burglar also had a gun and walked out. While the homeowner did not hold the burglar for police, the homeowner having a gun probably changed the course this encounter took. Instead of being a victim where the criminal had a gun and he did not, the criminal left and the homeowner was fine.

A wanted convicted felon with a decade-long criminal history is in custody and facing new charges from a Christmas Eve burglary and a Dec. 26 pursuit.
Law enforcement caught up to Richard Michael “Mick” Reed last week after he evaded them in a pursuit the day after Christmas that started on U.S. 180 West at Iron Bridge when his vehicle crashed on a side road and he fled on foot.

At that time Reed was wanted for probation violations and failure to pay fines in Grant County. He is also now facing charges in the pursuit and the Christmas Eve burglary in Silver City in which the homeowner came home and allegedly found Reed in his home and confronted him as he was trying to steal some guns. The homeowner attempted to hold Reed at gunpoint, according to the affidavit for arrest, but Reed had a pistol in a holster on his right hip and left the scene while the homeowner was calling 911.

Reed has a long criminal history dating back to 2008 with convictions in Las Cruces District Court for fraud and theft of a credit card in 2008; burglary and larceny in 2009; and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and burglary in 2012.
In 2016, he was convicted of receiving stolen property in Catron County in Socorro District Court, and in a repeat offender plea and disposition agreement in May 2016, he received an 18-month suspended sentence and probation, despite having three prior felony convictions. In that case, the state did not oppose probation and imposed no additional habitual offender enhancements for his prior convictions. Reed could have received up to eight years additional prison time for his three prior felonies, according to state statute.

While on probation for that charge, he violated his probation by committing new crimes in Grant County. In October 2016, he was charged with seven felonies, including two counts of unlawful use or theft of a debit or ATM card, two counts of forgery $2,500 or less, three counts of identity theft, and one misdemeanor count of fraudulent use of a credit card $250 to $500.
In October 2017, he once again received a suspended sentence and probation in a plea agreement in that case, this one in Silver City District Court, approved by Judge J.C. Robinson and Deputy District Attorney John Holguin.

According to the plea agreement, Reed received:
“The basic statutory sentence in Counts 1 through 7, consisting of 18 months in the Department of Corrections for each of Counts 1 through 7, plus one year of parole, and 364 days for Count 8.
“Counts 1, 3, 5, and 8, shall run consecutive to each other. Count 2 shall run concurrent to Count 1; Count 4 shall run concurrent to Count 3; and Counts 6 and 7, shall run concurrent to Count 5, for a total sentence of five and one-half (5 ½) years, less one day.”

The entire sentence was suspended and Reed was placed on probation once again.
While on probation this time, he was charged with several more crimes again.
On Oct. 3, 2017, he was charged with driving with a suspended license in Bayard Magistrate Court. On Oct. 5, he was charged with resisting and evading arrest in Silver City Magistrate Court, and on Dec. 27, 2017, he was charged with the Christmas Eve aggravated burglary, a second-degree felony; being a felon in possession of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony; and attempt to commit a felony, a misdemeanor.

Reed has been linked to other burglaries in Silver City and Grant County, and more charges are potentially pending.
Catron County Undersheriff Cliff Snyder confirmed Reed has been in custody there since Jan. 2. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 24 in Silver City Magistrate Court on several of the new charges, including the aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, attempt to commit a felony (larceny of a firearm) from the Christmas Eve incident, and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, criminal trespass and criminal damage to property from the Dec. 26 pursuit, and the Oct. 5 misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.

He is also facing 19 more charges in Catron County from Aug. 26, 2017, including identity theft, credit card theft, and receiving stolen property, all fourth-degree felonies; and dealing in the credit cards of another, a third-degree felony. According to the New Mexico courts website, that case has been bound over to Seventh Judicial District Court in Socorro.

Arizona spa patron holds suspected thief at gunpoint

MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in southern Arizona say a man suspected of robbing a spa was held at gunpoint by a patron of the business until police arrived.

Officers received a call Wednesday that someone had held up employees of the Nirvana Reflexology Spa in Marana after gaining access to through a back door.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Eric Allen Maynes, allegedly brandished a knife and took their money before fleeing.

Police say the patron chased Maynes and fired several shots with a handgun in the direction of the suspect. No one was injured, but police say the unidentified patron kept Maynes from leaving until officers arrived.

Maynes was booked into the Pima County jail on felony armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping charges. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.

One dead, one injured after shooting at Lorna Doone Park, OPD says

ORLANDO, Fla. —
A person is dead after a shooting at Lorna Doone Park next to Camping World Stadium in Orlando, authorities said.

The Orlando Police Department is at the scene of a deadly shooting at Lorna Doone Park.

Authorities said they responded to the shooting near 1500 block of West Church Street at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived to the park, they said they found one man dead and the second with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Witnesses claimed the two men involved in the shooting knew each other for years. They said one of the men appeared to being arguing with the other and shot him in the leg. The victim allegedly returned fire, striking the shooter in what may have been an act of self defense.

The man who survived the shooting was taken to a hospital.

The Orlando Police Department has not yet released the name of the alleged shooter or the victim.

WESH 2 News has a crew heading to the scene and will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.

Second suspected arrested in connection to Surfside Beach Pharmacy armed robbery

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Surfside Beach Pharmacy on Nov. 6, 2017, according to a press release from the Surfside Beach Police Department.

Gary Allen Hammel, 48, has been charged with attempted armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Richard Allen Ray, 58, was also charged with attempted armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Officers responded to the Surfside Beach Pharmacy at 320 Hwy 17 North for a reported armed robbery in progress. According to police, two men entered the pharmacy wearing Halloween masks and brandishing a firearm. One of the suspects was carrying materials “believed to be intended to restrain the employees,” the release states.

The business owner fired a gun at one of the suspects in self-defense; the suspects then fled the scene. The investigation is on-going and more arrests are expected, police say.

Ray is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Surfside Beach, SC (WPDE) — 'Thankful' is the word of the day for pharmacist Daniel Bundrick, who chased off would-be armed robbers when he pulled his own gun and started shooting at Surfside Beach Pharmacy.
"This is not something you really plan on, but you do have to think about and have a plan, which we did and the plan worked out great this time," said Bundrick.
A plan that includes surveillance cameras and a gun.

"I've been a concealed weapons permit holder for years now and I practice on the range. So, you know, I feel fairly comfortable but, you know, when it's a real, live situation it is different. But, I felt that I was prepared and kept my wits about me," said Bundrick. But, he said, they certainly didn't teach him to shoot at would-be robbers in school.
Bundrick said he hopes to learn from the experience.

"We're going to look at procedures and our security and make sure it's strong and tighter," said Bundrick.
The pharmacist believes his pharmacy was a target because the robbers wanted drugs.
"Pharmacies really don't keep that much money--most people pay with credit card--so, with a pharmacy, there's medications, mainly pain meds," said Bundrick.

Man who fired gun in local bar shot, injured by employee

WACO, Texas (KWTX) A man who fired several rounds after arguing with a bouncer early Sunday morning at a Waco bar was shot and injured by a bar employee.

Waco police responded to the Mr. Magoo's bar at 4601 Hodde Dr. at around 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Officers determined that a customer who became upset when the bar announced last call, got into an argument with a bounce, pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds, sending the bouncer running for cover.

Another bar employee witnessed the shooting, retrieved his own weapon, and shot the suspect repeatedly.

The unidentified man was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.

Information about his condition and the severity of his injuries wasn’t immediately available.

Ridgecrest man acquitted of murder in shooting of employee's husband

A Kern County jury has found a 68-year-old Ridgecrest man not guilty of murder in the fatal shooting of a part-time employee who refused to leave his property.

The jury acquitted Philip Norwood of a charge of first-degree murder on Friday, and he has been released from custody, according to court records. He had faced 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

The trial began Jan. 2, after an earlier trial resulted in a hung jury, court records show.

The charge stemmed from an encounter in May between Norwood and Michael Davis, 35, the husband of a part-time employee at Norwood's business, Cameo Kennels.

According to court documents, Davis arrived at the business started arguing with his wife. Norwood interrupted the couple, and twice told Davis he needed to leave.

Davis began walking toward his truck, but turned around and resumed the argument. Norwood then armed himself with a gun, pointed it at Davis and told him if he didn't leave he was going to shoot him, the documents said.

Davis said, "Go ahead," according to Norwood's statement to investigators.

Norwood fired once and Davis collapsed. With help from Davis' wife, he loaded the wounded man into a pickup and took him to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, where he died.

Norwood fled but was arrested after later returning to his home, also the site of Cameo Kennels, in the 1500 block of South Nolan Street.

According to court documents, Norwood admitted it was a mistake to arm himself, but said he was afraid of Davis and believed the man, more than 30 years younger, could have harmed him.

Davis was unarmed.

The weapon used in the shooting, a .38-caliber revolver, was found in a bedroom of Norwood's house, the documents said.
