No one injured after home invasion in Hummelstown

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.-- UPDATE: No one was injured after a home invasion in Hummelstown.

According to Hummelstown Police Chief Bill Ryan, between 2 and 2:30 a.m. on July 18, two suspects pulled up to a home on the first block of W. Second and North Duke Street.

Then, the suspects allegedly broke in through the back door of a home.

A homeowner was present at the time, and alerted to an intrusion by a dog, according to police.

Then, a confrontation allegedly broke out between the homeowner and one of suspects that led to an exchange of gunfire.

However, no one was injured in the confrontation.

Police have recovered surveillance footage but it doesn't provide a clear enough image of the suspects or the vehicle.

Police say they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public, and that the attack appeared to be targeted and not random.

No one injured in drive-by shooting

The Norman Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Virginia Street at 10:07 p.m. Monday due to a report of shots fired, Public Information Officer Sarah Jensen said.

Upon arrival, officers observed bullet holes in the front of the residence and a vehicle parked in the driveway. No one was injured.

No arrests have been made. Preliminary investigation shows that the suspect(s) likely know each, and a disturbance led to shots being fired at the residence.

Neighbors said people had been arguing loudly in the yard earlier in the day.

They also said this home was previously the site of a 2016 New Year’s Eve shooting death as a result of a break-in. In that case, the resident shot and killed an intruder.

No charges were filed in that case, which was deemed as self defense.

The shooting incident is under investigation.

Man shoots and kills pit bull that was attacking his VA service dog in Fernandina beach
A man shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked his service dog multiple times out front of an animal clinic in Fernandina Beach.

A man shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked his service dog multiple times in front of an animal clinic in Fernandina Beach.

The Fernandina Beach Police responded to the incident and said, according to witnesses, that the pit bull was unrestrained and attacked James Strickland's dog Betty Boop. Strickland is a 70-year-old veteran and Betty Boop is his Weimaraner service dog.

While the pit bull, named Dozer, attacked Strickland's dog, people tried to restrain him. They were able to pull him off of Betty Boop once but he broke free and began attacking Betty Boop again. Strickland stated twice his intentions of shooting the attacking dog if he could not be restrained.

When Dozer attacked Betty Boop the second time, Strickland shot the dog with a .38 two times. Owners of the attacking dog said that he slipped out of his collar while being put into the car to leave.

Betty Boop sustained some visible scratches but did not receive any serious injuries. Dozer was dead when police arrived.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after Harris County authorities said he pulled a knife on another driver in a road rage incident Tuesday.

Authorities said Ricky Anderson pulled behind a vehicle at a red light in the 15000 block of Spring Cypress Road, at Telge Road, and began to honk his horn continuously and then used his truck to ram the vehicle out of the way.

“Ricky Anderson was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $50,000 out of the 185th District Court,” Constable Mark Herman said.

The victim then followed Anderson as he pulled into a parking lot in order to get his vehicle information, according to authorities.

While in the parking lot, Anderson approached the victim with a knife, authorities said. The victim pulled out a handgun in order to protect himself and Anderson left the parking lot, according to authorities.

Prosecutor dismisses attempted murder charges in downtown Cedar Rapids shooting
Prosecutor: Michael Hodges Jr. was 'justified in drawing his weapon'

    Wed., July 18, 2018

(FILE PHOTO) Michael Hodges, Jr. takes the stand for questioning at a hearing at the Linn County Courthouse in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Hodges, Jr. was charged with the attempted murder of Zevon Johnson after he shot Johnson in the chest during an altercation between the two men. Before the latest development, both men had been claiming immunity under Iowa’s new stand-your-ground law. (Rebecca Miller/The Gazette)

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man who sought immunity under Iowa’s stand-your-ground law after authorities say he shot and wounded another man won’t go to trial — not thanks to the controversial law, but because the Linn County Attorney’s Office asked the court Wednesday to dismiss the charges.

After a thorough review of the evidence, especially the video, I believe Michael Hodges Jr. was justified in drawing his weapon and shooting,” said Assistant County Attorney Monica Slaughter, who took over the case this week.

Surveillance video from downtown cameras, which captured the January shooting outside a bar, shows the other man — Zevon Johnson of Urbandale — was the “primary aggressor,” she found. Hodges drew his gun, which he had a permit to carry, in response, she concluded.

The finding contradicts a criminal complaint, another county prosecutor’s arguments in an earlier hearing and a few statements from 6th Judicial District Chief Judge Patrick Grady, who had denied Hodges’ immunity.

Both Hodges, 23, and Johnson, 21, each were charged initially with attempted murder and other counts. Each said he fired in self-defense and asserted immunity under the 2017 law.

The criminal complaint states each man drew a handgun simultaneously on the other Jan. 28 outside Pub 217, 217 Third St. NE. Johnson fired without hitting Hodges. But Hodges hit Johnson in the chest.

Johnson decided earlier this month to take a plea deal and gave up his request for immunity. He made a written guilty plea of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. He admitted to carrying a firearm that day within the city limits without a permit. He faces a $625 fine and up to two years in jail.

Marion County man holds stabbing suspect at gunpoint

A 43-year-old Lakeview woman who allegedly stabbed another woman during a delusional episode was denied a bond reduction Wednesday during a session of Marion County Circuit Court.

Kristina Michelle Coyer faces a single count of second-degree-battery in the case. Following her arrest, she was taken to the Marion County jail where she was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

When she asked Circuit Court Judge John Putman on Wednesday to lower her bond, Coyer told the judge she needed to be out of jail to care for her daughter and that she needed help to discover why she had the delusional episode.

After reading the affidavit in the case and considering the charge she faced, Putman declined to lower the woman's bond, recommended she secure an attorney and ordered her to reappear on Aug. 22.

    The alleged stabbing

On July 12, authorities were called to a home on Hugh Lane in the Oakland area for a woman being held at gunpoint after she allegedly stabbed another woman. Personnel from the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

The couple residing at the home told deputies their version of what transpired.

The husband said he was on the porch of the home when a woman he had seen before in passing came up the driveway and told him a man armed with a gun was chasing her, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

The husband brought the woman inside the home and locked the door. The woman went into the couple's kitchen and grabbed a knife from a drawer. He told her to put the knife back.

Thinking she had, the man then went to his gun safe, grabbed a shotgun and loaded it. When he came back, he could not find the woman.

Then, he heard shouting from the bedroom where his wife was sleeping. He rushed to help her but found the door locked.

His wife quickly opened the door and the man reported finding Coyer sitting on his bed holding the knife he thought she had put away. Coyer reportedly dropped the knife immediately and the man secured the knife.

The man held Coyer at gunpoint until authorities arrived. During that time, he reported that Coyer was making "crazy statements" continuously.

The man's wife reported that when Coyer entered the bedroom, she yelled "Are you Monica" and began stabbing her with the steak knife. The woman suffered a cut to a finger and scraping near an armpit.

At least twice while the couple awaited the arrival of authorities, Coyer complained of "panthers" coming out of the pillows on the bed. Coyer also reportedly asked the man to shoot her because she feared she would go to jail for life.

Fake CPS worker allegedly planned to kill man and kidnap three children in Liberty County | abc13.com
    LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) --
A man accused of posing as a CPS worker during a home invasion in Liberty County allegedly admitted to deputies that he intended to kill a man before taking possession of his three children.

Jimmy Dwayne Lackey, 37, is facing a number of felony charges and is being held in the Liberty County Jail.

Lackey was arrested Saturday after deputies said he entered a home without permission, representing himself as working for Child Protective Services.

According to deputies, the suspect allegedly told a man inside the home that he was going to take three children living at the residence.

The suspect charged after the man and the children as they ran into a bedroom.

Deputies said Lackey screamed threats that he was going to kidnap the children, but not before killing the homeowner.

The victim grabbed a gun and fired four rounds into the ground, sending the suspect running from the home.

The children and the homeowner ran to a neighbor's house to call 911. Lackey was arrested after the victim pointed out the suspect who was found walking down the street.

Deputies said Lackey resisted arrest, fighting authorities as they tried to put him in handcuffs.

A search of Lackey's body allegedly produced two clear plastic baggies with what was believed to be methamphetamine inside.

He is charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and impersonating a public servant.
