A home invasion in the southwest valley ended with the homeowner getting shot and firing back at two men who had entered the residence Friday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

A home invasion in the southwest valley ended with the homeowner getting shot and firing back at two men who had entered his residence Friday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

The shooting was reported at 9:46 a.m. on the 9200 block of Starcross Lane, near South Fort Apache Road and West Twain Avenue, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

A homeowner told police that he was shot by two adult men who entered his home. The homeowner then fired at the men, prompting them to flee.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center, police said. His condition was not immediately known.

About 9:55 a.m., Las Vegas police received a call that two men suffering from gunshot wounds were dropped off at Southern Hills Hospital in critical condition.

It was not immediately known if the pair were connected to the home invasion.

Edward Duffy, who lives on Dapple Gray Road, a block away from the scene, said he hasn’t seen anything like this in 23 years living in the area.

“This is a very quiet and safe neighborhood. I’ve never heard of a home invasion or shooting over here,” Duffy said, adding that the family-friendly neighborhood generally doesn’t see a lot of traffic.

Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield confirmed there were no fatalities from the shooting.

Man not facing charges in fatal downtown shooting

Derry London, WSMV Digital Content Manager Updated 8 min ago | Posted on May 26, 2019 0
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -- A man attempting to break up a fight is not facing charges after the shooting death of an alleged assailant.

Just after three Sunday morning 37-year-old Ceron Coleman exited a bar located in the 200 block of Commerce Street with friends and family. Among the group was his brother.

The other individuals involved, a man named Deadrick Esaw and an unnamed friend of his, approached the group.

Esaw's friend got into an argument with Coleman's brother, and Esaw tried to separate the two, at which time Coleman allegedly punched Esaw, knocking him to the ground.

Esaw said that Coleman stood over him and allegedly attempted to assault him again, at which time Esaw drew a pistol and shot Coleman.

Ceron Coleman was shot in the torso, and passed away later at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Esaw stayed at the scene briefly according to witnesses, but left the location of the incident, and instead phoned police from a 24-hour restaurant on Mufreesboro Pike. He waited for their arrival and allowed them to detain him for questioning, telling them as well where they could locate the gun in his vehicle.

After an investigation by Central Division detectives, it was noted that Esaw's account of how events transpired was consistent with witness statements taken on Commerce Street. They also reported that his face had visible injuries that were consistent with being punched.

Police consulted the District Attorney's Office, and detectives released Esaw, and is not facing charges at this time.

Two shot in Concord; one dead, narrative emerges

Pike County sheriff Jimmy Thomas has reported his deputies responded to a call at 7:47 PM Sunday evening of two victims being shot at 349 Bates Road in Concord. One person was lifeflighted by helicopter air ambulance to Atlanta for additional treatment and the other was transported to Macon for medical treatment. The investigation is underway and more details will be released as they become available.

Sheriff Thomas said he has no reason to believe that any citizens in the area are in danger and it is believed the victims are the only ones involved in this incident.

The property there is owned by Roger Prater via life estate, according to tax records.

    UPDATE from PCSO;

Pike County Sheriff’s Investigators have been working through the night to piece together the shooting that occurred at 349 Bates Road. The homeowner , Roger Prater, and his adult son , Nathan Prater, saw an an individual unknown to them on their property.

They walked over to speak with the person to inquire what he was doing on the property. The person , later identified as Darrell Brown, 45 years of age, stated that he was looking for a way off of Mr. Prater’s land. No explanation was given by Brown as to why he was at the location. When Brown was shown a gate that he could leave the through he pulled out a handgun and shot at Nathan Prater multiple times striking him once.

Nathan Prater did have a rifle with him and was able to return fire on Brown. He was hit and collapsed a short distance away after trying to run away from the area. It appears that one shot was fired by Mr. Prater.

Both people were transported for medical treatment. Brown later died of his injuries at the hospital. Nathan Prater’s injuries were non-life threatening. An autopsy will be performed by the GBI medical examiner on Brown.

Through the investigation it was determined that Brown had been visiting a residence in the area prior to this incident. Brown had shown another person the handgun he had with him. The witness told investigators that he knew Brown was a convicted felon and shouldn’t have it. It was at his time for an unknown reason that Brown walked away from the witnesses house and ended up on the Prater property.

A vehicle driven by Brown was recovered by investigators from the witnesses home. An additional firearm was taken into evidence from this vehicle. It was also discovered that the U.S. Marshals office had an active arrest warrant for Brown in regards to a probation violation.

Once completed the investigative case file will forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review. At this time it is believed that Mr. Prater acted in self defense to protect himself and other family members.

He was shot outside a Sarasota Waffle House. He’s now in trouble with the law
    May 28, 2019 03:20 PM, Updated 2 hours 46 minutes ago

If you witness a crime, here’s what to do

Witnessing a crime and reporting it can be just as frightening as being the victim of a crime. Here’s what you should do if you witness illegal activity. By Nicole L. Cvetnic
    Sarasota
The man who shot three men outside a Sarasota Waffle House won’t be facing any charges, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Instead, one of the men shot has been charged with the battery that instigated the shooting.

The shooter acted in self-defense, detectives and prosecutors determined after interviewing all the men involved and reviewing surveillance video shooting of the incident, according to an arrest warrant.

Alan Castillo, 22, was arrested on Friday. Castillo, a server at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar, was released the same day on a $10,000 bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victims and not to return to the Waffle House.

Sometime before 3 a.m. May 20, two men walked into the Waffle House, 5737 Clark Road, Sarasota, and one of the men was confronted by Castillo, the victims told detectives, according to the warrant.

Castillo had approached the man aggressively, bumped him in his chest with a fist and pushed him. The victim tried to walk away but as he did Castillo punched him.

The victim began fighting back in defense. His friend meanwhile armed himself with a 9 mm handgun.

When Castillo’s friends attempted to chase or grab the second man, the man fired his gun. He later told detectives that he feared his friend was in imminent danger because he was being beat by four men.

The two victims left the Waffle House before deputies arrived because they were “scared and they were outnumbered,” according to the warrant.

Castillo and two of his friends were found with gunshot wounds. All three were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and were treated for their non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives and prosecutors later determined that Castillo was the primary aggressor. His three friends claimed they held down the victim “for fear of him having a gun,” according to the warrant.
