He pulled out a knife, the motorist pulled out a gun, police say

A 30-year-old Longview man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery Saturday after he allegedly stole items from a store and fled, according to Centralia Police.

It’s after he ran that things got interesting, including a confrontation with another person. Both drew weapons on each other.

About 6 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue, the 30-year-old man allegedly stole items from a store, then attempted to steal an occupied vehicle from a parking lot. He pulled a knife on the motorist, but the motorist pulled out a gun.

    The 30-year-old kept running.

He eventually swam across the Skookumchuck River, but was caught by police. The knife was found in a nearby field, police said.

Provo man arrested, held at gunpoint after allegedly pulling hatchet out during fight
Posted 4:36 pm, August 5, 2018, by Taylor Hartman

PROVO, Utah – A Provo man was arrested Saturday after allegedly pulling a hatchet out of the back of his van during an altercation, which led to him being held at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to a probable cause statement released by the Utah County Sheriff, the victim of the assault stated that 55-year-old Galen Williams pulled too far into a crosswalk with his van, and heated words were exchanged.

Williams allegedly pulled into a parking lot to confront the victim, but the victim’s father ran over and pushed the door to the car shut, the probable cause statement said. Williams then allegedly punched the victim’s father in the face and drove to a different part of the parking lot.

“There was video camera showing (Williams) had gotten out of his van and walked to the back of the van,” police said. “I could see (Williams) pulling out a hatchet out of the back of his van.”

The probable cause statement said that the victim’s father ran to his truck, and Williams got back into his van. The father allegedly took out a gun and held Williams at gunpoint until police arrived.

Domestic violence victim shoots estranged boyfriend who broke into her home

Woman shoots former resident during break-in

MANSFIELD – The Fox 8 I-Team has learned a domestic violence victim told police she shot her estranged boyfriend, after he broke into her home, refused to leave, and started coming toward her.

“She felt at that time she was in danger,” said Mansfield Police Lt. Rob Skropits.

The shooting happened Sunday afternoon around 1:30. The woman told police she was in the shower when 24-year-old Terrance Hampton allegedly broke into her South Adams Street home.

The victim told a 9-1-1 dispatcher that the man removed an air conditioning unit and crawled through a window.

The woman said she was able to grab a gun that she kept for protection and said she kept telling Hampton to leave.

“At some point I guess he gets to the front door, he shuts the door, turns around at her, and from my understanding that is when a shot was fired,” Skropits said.

Hampton ran from the residence and was found a short time later. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

    The victim was not injured.

The victim has filed several reports against Hampton in the last few months, including two for domestic violence.

“Just last month she filed a report and our domestic violence detective is working on a case between these two where he came in the house and assaulted her,” Skropits said.

Police say the case will be sent to the prosecutor to determine what charges should be filed.

BREAKING: MCSO says deadly shooting in Citronelle was self defense
    Shelby Banks

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WKRG) --UPDATE: Investigators say the deadly shooting was caused by a fight over a missing ATV. Right now they are treating it as a case of self defense, and it will be up to a grand jury to decide if there should be charges. It happened around 9 o'clock Sunday night when Yusuf Mabry and Robert Ezell got into an argument over that ATV at Ezell's house.

Police say the two met just days before and that Mabry had brought an ATV to Ezell's home to be worked on. The ATV wasn't at the home anymore and Mabry became angry, threatening Ezell with a gun, according to the Mobile County Sheriff's office.

Ezell ran to his bedroom and got his own gun, a 12-gauge shotgun. Police say Ezell warned Mabry not to come into his room but Mabry did. Police say Ezell then shot Mabry in the thigh. The two then struggled over Mabry's gun. The fight spilled back outside where other witnesses called 9-1-1.

According to a press release, "based on Witnesses and the evidence thus far, the shooting appears to be self-defense. The case will go before the Grand Jury."

Concealed carry holder rescued woman from carjacking in Littlefield
Image of Ruben Garcia Lopez from Lamb County Jail
LITTLEFIELD, Texas - Littlefield Police said a man with a gun and a concealed carry permit was able to stop a violent carjacking Thursday afternoon.

Police arrested Ruben Garcia Lopez, 25, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault, terroristic threat and resisting arrest.

Littlefield Police were called to the 900 block of West 4th Street Thursday afternoon.

A police statement said, “A male subject was armed with a knife [and] was assaulting a female and trying to take her car.” Police said Lopez also assaulted the woman’s boyfriend. Her kids were in the car.

Police quoted Lopez as saying, “This was his (expletive) car”.

“Even though she was being assaulted; the woman was trying to get her kids out of the car,” police said.

“A neighbor arrived at his home, saw the attack in progress, and armed himself with his handgun. He has a concealed handgun permit,” police said. “He came to the aid of the victims and pointed his weapon at the attacker.”

Lopez then moved away from the car and went across the street.

When police arrived, “… the attacker dropped the knife and attacked the officer.”

The officer was able to arrest Lopez and there was no mention of injuries in the police statement.

An armed bystander shot a man who opened fire at a Florida park filled with over 100 people -- including children -- for a Saturday back-to-school cookout, officials said.

The Titusville Police Department said in a news release the man was involved in a fistfight with another person at the Issac Campbell Park and left around 5:20 p.m. -- only to return with a gun minutes later and start shooting.

A bystander, who was lawfully licensed to carry a firearm, then shot the gunman.

Alleged intruder shot, killed by southeast Charlotte business owner
    Monday, August 6th 2018, 6:25 am EDT
    CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A business owner shot and killed a man breaking into their southeast Charlotte shop early Monday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

The break-in was reported by an alarm company around 4:33 a.m. at the American Beauty and Garden Center in the 4400 block of E. Independence Boulevard. Around the same time, a man called 911 saying that he spotted an intruder in the business on a security camera.

The man called back shortly after and told the 911 operator that he just shot someone at the store.

Police say they arrived to find the alleged intruder, identified as 20-year-old Justin Anderson, shot behind the business. Medic pronounced him dead on the scene.

CMPD says it appears Anderson entered the business by smashing the front glass window. When the business owner arrived, Anderson reportedly ran out of the front door before he was shot. He then ran behind the business.

“As soon as a got here I saw the tape and I knew something was up because I never see anything like that around here,” said CJ Williamson, who owns a business a couple doors down. “It makes me a little scared because I obviously want to protect my business. This is everything I own, this is my life.”

At this point, it is not clear if the intruder was armed or where exactly he was shot.

“I kind of understand what the business owner down here is going through, but I don’t know if I would have gone through those lengths to protect my business,” said Williams

Officials have not said if the alleged shooter was taken into custody or whether any charges will be filed.

Whitney Brown works at Avis a few doors down from where the shooting happened. She there was an attempted robbery at her businesses a few years ago. Because of that, they purchased more security for the building.

“It happened to us and now it happened to them. It is not a safe area," said Brown. “We have that extra security, so we feel safe and the people inside feel safe as well.”

Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Anderson's family has been notified of his death.

Retired cop in gunfight during apparent robbery attempt
By Tina Moore and Ben Feuerherd
Cops at the scene of an alleged robbery in East New York.

A retired NYPD detective sitting in a Bentley with bulletproof glass got into a gunfight with a man he says tried to swipe his Rolex in Brooklyn Sunday, police said.

Former Detective Robert Santos told cops he was in his 2010 luxury ride outside his dad’s home in East New York at about 3:50 a.m. when “a guy walks up, points a gun at him and says, ‘Give me your Rolex,’ ” a high-ranking police source told The Post.

Santos, 46, “puts the watch on the seat. He then gets out of the car and gets into a gunfight with the guy,” the source said.

The would-be robber — described as between 35 and 45 years old and last seen wearing light-colored clothing — fled, police said.

Cops were scouring hospitals in case he was struck by a bullet, sources said.

The cop, who retired in 2013 after 21 years, wasn’t shot — but his 2010 Bentley took a few slugs. He was taken to an area hospital for ringing in his ears.

In 2011, when Santos was still with the NYPD, he pulled a gun on the estranged husband of now-Assistant Chief Juanita Holmes, who suspected his wife and Santos of having an affair.

Santos was also in a Chelsea nightclub when a person was shot to death in 2011, but he left before talking with cops and was kicked off the NYPD’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, sources said.
