Local pharmacist shoots at would-be robbers: 'They didn't teach that in pharmacy school'

    http://wpde.com/news/local/they-didn...uld-be-robbers
Surfside Beach, SC (WPDE) — 'Thankful' is the word of the day for pharmacist Daniel Bundrick, who chased off would-be armed robbers when he pulled his own gun and started shooting at Surfside Beach Pharmacy.
"This is not something you really plan on, but you do have to think about and have a plan, which we did and the plan worked out great this time," said Bundrick.
A plan that includes surveillance cameras and a gun.

"I've been a concealed weapons permit holder for years now and I practice on the range. So, you know, I feel fairly comfortable but, you know, when it's a real, live situation it is different. But, I felt that I was prepared and kept my wits about me," said Bundrick. But, he said, they certainly didn't teach him to shoot at would-be robbers in school.
Bundrick said he hopes to learn from the experience.

"We're going to look at procedures and our security and make sure it's strong and tighter," said Bundrick.
The pharmacist believes his pharmacy was a target because the robbers wanted drugs.
"Pharmacies really don't keep that much money--most people pay with credit card--so, with a pharmacy, there's medications, mainly pain meds," said Bundrick.
Surfside Beach police are still looking for the two suspects and ask for anyone with information to call 843-913-6368.

Schertz car wash owner shoots burglar breaking into his business
Shooting was reported in 400 block of Main Street

    https://www.ksat.com/news/schertz-ca...-into-business
Texas - The owner of a car wash shot a man after witnessing him break into his business, authorities in Schertz said Wednesday.

The shooting was reported around 5 a.m. in the 400 block of Main Street near Pickrell Park.

According to police the owner of the Main Street Car Wash happened to be driving by when he noticed someone breaking into the business.

"He usually gets there about the same time every morning,” said Officer Helen Lafitte with Schertz P. D. “He saw the car there. He went around the back. He saw the door was open. "

The owner confronted the suspect who had apparently broken into a small room where the money vault is located, police said.

“The business owner attempted to have the individual stop what he was doing, gave him that command at least more than once,” Lafitte said. “The individual, I guess, came towards him and he took what he thought was appropriate action to defend himself."

He told police the suspected intruder threatened him with a crowbar, causing him to shoot him.

The suspect is currently at University Hospital awaiting surgery for multiple gunshot wounds.

Officials have not said if the owner will be charged. The car wash, police said, has had trouble with burglaries in the past.

Man with permit to carry shoots suspected would-be armed robber in downtown St. Paul

    http://www.startribune.com/man-with-...aul/456138443/
The suspect had his gun pointed at three people in a car in Lowertown, police said. With a handgun pointed at him and his passengers, a man behind the wheel of a car in downtown St. Paul responded with his own gun and shot the perpetrator, authorities said Wednesday.

The gunfire during the suspected stickup attempt occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday near 6th and Wacouta streets in the Lowertown neighborhood and close to many dining and drinking establishments, police said.

Police said the driver holds a government-issued permit to carry a firearm. Police are withholding his identity "due to safety concerns," said police spokesman Steve Linders.

The wounded man, 31 years old and from St. Paul, was taken to Regions Hospital and was expected to survive, Linders said.

The driver told police at the scene near Mears Park that the suspect approached his car and "pointed a handgun at the people in the vehicle," Linders said.

The motorist "produced a handgun and shot and struck the man standing outside," the spokesman continued.

Linders said it appears that the wounded man was attempting to rob the vehicle's three occupants, though the investigation into the motive continues. He added that the "person who was shot was known to one of the people in the car."

The suspect has yet to be charged. The Star Tribune generally does not name suspects until they are charged.

The suspect's criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for robbery, selling illicit drugs and disorderly conduct.

Charges filed against Salt Lake man shot by homeowner in June

    https://www.ksl.com/?sid=46194330&nid=148
RIVERTON — An intoxicated man who was shot by a homeowner in June was charged Tuesday with burglarizing the home, threatening the man's family and refusing to back down.

Derek Palmer, 36, of Salt Lake City, is charged in 3rd District Court with burglary, a second-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; two counts of lewdness, a class B misdemeanor; plus intoxication and disorderly conduct, class C misdemeanors.

In June, Palmer went to a friend's house to visit. But he became so intoxicated that the friend told him "he needed to go to bed" and called for an Uber to pick him up, according to charging documents. The Uber driver, however, refused to take Palmer because he was allegedly being "loud and belligerent."

The friend went back into his house to call Palmer's fiancee to come and get him. But when he came back outside, Palmer was standing in the street without his shorts, the charges state. The friend tried to help Palmer put his clothes back on, then went back into the house to try and call another ride.

While the friend was away, a neighbor's teen children pulled into their driveway. Palmer "walked right up to the car window with his pants down," the charges state.

The children kept driving and called their mom as they circled the block to report a "drunk naked man was outside the house," according to charging documents. The mother went outside and got into a confrontation with Palmer, prompting the children's stepfather to go outside with a handgun and confront Palmer.

Palmer was knocked to the ground by Darris Ellis, prompting Palmer to pull out a knife, the charges state. Palmer walked toward the stepfather while asking him if he would shoot if Palmer stabbed him, the charges state.

Palmer then dropped the knife and continued crawling into the garage, ignoring the stepfather's commands to stop, according to court records.

Homeowner shot man after intruder kept advancing, police say
A Riverton homeowner tried several times to get an intruder to stay away before resorting to shooting him, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in 3rd District Court.
When Palmer's friend came back out of his house, he saw "Palmer was on all fours in the driveway of a neighbor" who was pointing a gun at Palmer and yelling at him to stay down, according to court records.

"Palmer kept fighting and trying to get up," the charges state, prompting the neighbor to shoot twice.

When police arrived, Ellis put the gun down. But Palmer tried to grab the weapon. Even though an officer took the gun out of Palmer's reach and told him to stop moving, Palmer kept advancing toward the officer in an "aggressive manner," according to the charges. The officer deployed his Taser twice and was about to use it a third time before Palmer complied with his orders and allowed the officer to handcuff him, the charges state.

Palmer was taken to a local hospital and released after a few days. Police say he has undergone several surgeries and may require more.

An initial court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 13
