Washington Township man shot, charged in break-in at own house
Gideon Bradshaw 6 hrs ago 0

State police filed charges Sunday against a Washington Township man who allegedly tried to attack two relatives before one of them shot him in the arm that morning.

Court papers said William J. Wilson, 34, was still recovering at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., as police sought a warrant for his arrest on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.

Police didn’t give the names of the man and woman – both in their 60s – who share a house on Dividing Ridge Road with Wilson, but said they’re related to him.

The purported victims reportedly told troopers Wilson had been erratic and combative at the house early in the morning. He’d allegedly destroyed unspecified items during that episode.

“The victims related that (Wilson) stated to both victims that he would ‘take their faces off,’” a trooper wrote.

He left at about 3:30 a.m.

Five hours later, they awoke to rapping on windows and doors. They’d been asleep in the master bedroom on the second floor, and initially weren’t sure who was making the noise when they hit a panic button on their home-security system.

Guardian Home Protection notified the state police barracks in Waynesburg. The company contacted troopers again less than 10 minutes later to share the information that the apparent intruder had been shot.

The victims told police Wilson had allegedly broken several second-story windows and got into the house through the door of a balcony on that floor, and charged down a hallway at their bedroom door.

“Once that bedroom door was forced open, one victim fired a single shot from a 9-m.m. handgun, striking (Wilson) in the right arm,” court papers said.

Troopers said Wilson fled before a neighbor found him.

He was reportedly wounded in the bicep. It was unclear from court papers exactly how he got to the hospital.

“The victims related that they were both scared by the actions of (Wilson) and feared for their lives,” a trooper added.

Court papers don’t list an attorney for Wilson.

Man with shotgun storms into home searching for ex-girlfriend. But homeowner is armed, too — and gives intruder lethal greeting.
'He pushed my granddaughter who answered the door. He literally shoved her'

    Dave Urbanski
Detroit police said a male homeowner was outside with his family and children when he heard a disruption inside his house just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday — and encountered a man with a shotgun, WXYZ-TV reported.

    The rest of the story

Witnesses said the intruder was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was inside the home, WJBK-TV reported.

"He [was] out to kill. He didn't care," a female resident who didn't want to be identified told WJBK, which added the suspect allegedly forced his way into the home.

"He pushed my granddaughter who answered the door," the anonymous female added to WJBK. "He literally shoved her."

This woman who spoke to the station said she doesn't know the suspect's name but that he was her daughter's ex-boyfriend.

"He was seeing my daughter, but he beat her ... and she took off because he said he was going to kill her," the tearful woman told WJBK.

The woman also told the station the suspect pointed a gun at her and told her if she didn't call her daughter, he'd kill her — and that he also allegedly pointed the gun at other family members.

"He shot at my son-in-law from what I understand," the woman added to WJBK. "He shot at him twice."

Police added to the station that the 39-year-old homeowner who fatally shot the suspect isn't in custody as it's likely case of self defense — but that police are still investigating.

Family of man fatally shot by passerby thanks police

PROVO — As detectives continue to investigate the death of a Provo man who police say was shot and killed by a neighbor who came upon the scene, the victim's family released a statement Monday saying they appreciate the efforts of investigators.

"We are deeply saddened over our son Jeremy’s death and the circumstances under which it occurred. We appreciate the efforts of those who witnessed the shooting and ran to Jeremy’s assistance until police and emergency vehicles arrived. We also honor their courage in providing evidence during the investigation," Jeremy Sorensen's parents said in a prepared statement given to Provo police to be posted on their Facebook page.

"We appreciate the police officers who responded to the crime scene and the compassion they showed toward our son. We are grateful for the dedication and openness of the Provo Police Department throughout the investigation. We trust and are hopeful that honest and just conclusions will be made by the Utah County Attorney’s Office from the evidence gathered by the police."

Sorensen, 26, was assaulting an 18-year-old female acquaintance on June 3 in the driveway in front of his apartment complex, 260 E. 500 North, according to police.

"It was reported that Jeremy Sorensen … had been stomping on the head" of the woman, according to search warrant affidavits filed in 4th District Court.

Sorensen "was trying to get into the purse" of the woman, according to witnesses, but the woman told him there was nothing in her purse, an affidavit states.

A 22-year-old man pulled up, saw what was happening, and ordered Sorensen to get off of the woman. Adam Taylor, who was Sorensen's "downstairs neighbor," was just arriving home.

"He stopped his vehicle in the street and got out and pulled his concealed carry gun. He held the gun at a low ready position and yelled at the male to stop assaulting the female or he would shoot," police wrote in an affidavit.

"After about 30 seconds and giving several commands to stop punching and kicking the female in the head, the female got away from the male, ran past Adam and the male started coming toward Adam at that time. The male looked at Adam and Adam told him he would shoot. The male continued to walk aggressively toward Adam. Once the male was about 6-10 feet away from Adam, Adam fired two shots in the torso of the male," one of the warrants states.

The woman was in the hospital being treated for "possible head injuries" when the warrants were served. Police noted that she appeared to be "experiencing memory loss and has not been able to give a statement on her current relationship with Jeremy Sorensen."

Provo police later said the woman was treated for a concussion and hip injuries consistent with being repeatedly punched and kicked.

Police say Taylor has been cooperative with investigators.

Friends and family members of Sorensen were shocked by his alleged behavior, describing him as gentle and childlike. Some family members are questioning what Sorensen's mental state was like at the time of the assault.

No arrests have been made in the case. The Utah County Attorney's Office will formally determine whether the shooting was in self-defense.

JoCo DA says Boost Mobile clerk shot robber in self-defense, no criminal charges for killing

Crime scene investigators were inside the store hours after the shooting took place June 10. Photo credit Mike Frizzell.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe this afternoon announced that his office had completed a review of the June 10 shooting death inside the Boost Mobile store near 76th and Metcalf and determined the employee had acted in self defense.

Police identified the man killed in the incident as Deshawn Brim of Raytown. Brim was out of prison on parole for drug charges at the time of the shooting.

In a release to the media this afternoon, Howe said Brim “entered the store armed with a handgun and proceeded to rob the store at gunpoint. At some point, the store clerk, fearing for his life and the life of his co-worker, produced a handgun. The robber was killed in the ensuing gun battle as he attempted to jump over the counter presumably to get at the clerk.”

Because the Boost employee acted to preserve his life and that of his co-worker, Howe’s office determined he would not be subject to criminal charges.

“We have determined that this was a valid exercise of self-defense under Kansas
law,” Howe said. “No charges will be filed in connection with this shooting.”

Police: Elderly woman holds man at gunpoint after finding him in bedroom

TEXARKANA, TX. (KETK) - An elderly Texarkana woman held a man at gunpoint on Saturday night after finding him inside her bedroom.

Police in Texarkana, Texas says Jeremy Griffin had been kicked out of the house previously after he began using drugs. The woman had let him stay there before, but had recently asked him to not come back.

It is unclear how they knew each other.

Police say that Griffin also was hiding a knife underneath the bed.

Griffin tried to evade police once they arrived, but they were able to take him into custody with pepper spray as he was climbing a fence.

He is currently being held in the Bi-State Jail on charges of Burglary of a Habitation and Evading Arrest.

His bond was set at $21,500.

Russell Co. Sheriff: Father critically wounds son in apparent self-defense shooting

RUSSELL CO., Ala. (WRBL) – A tragic story out of East Alabama as Russell County investigators say a father shot his son, leaving him in critical condition, after a domestic dispute.

Investigators say the shooting happened Saturday around 5:00 PM along Padgetts Road in the Seal community.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor says 38-year-old Brandon Catrett is in critical condition after being shot by his dad in the upper torso.

Taylor says Catrett appeared to be under the influence of drugs when witnesses say he got into an argument with his family and threatened to kill them. Investigators believe when Catrett charged his father, James Catrett, shot his son in what appears to be an act of self-defense.

“It’s just a shame a father has to potentially shoot his own son to prevent him from attacking him and trying to kill him,” shared Taylor.

Sheriff Taylor says James Catrett has not been arrested and the case will be presented to a grand jury.
