Gun-toting ex-Georgia cop foils attempted home ambush
    April 23, 2018

Carlos Wicker, a former DeKalb County police officer, said he fired his gun at a would-be robber outside his home.

    (FOX5 Atlanta)

A would-be robber who tried ambushing a Georgia homeowner picked the wrong person to mess with.

The armed suspect, who was still being sought Monday by police, was chased off a driveway in Newton County on Tuesday after being confronted by Carlos Wicker, a former police officer.

“I pulled my gun, I shot at him and he took off running,” Wicker, the homeowner, told FOX5 Atlanta. He said the suspect fled the scene in a car.

The station reported Wicker served as a DeKalb County police officer for 16 years and also was a district attorney investigator.

The incident, which happened just after midnight, has left homeowners in the Riverwalk Farms community on edge.

“I want to find out what’s happened because we have young children here,” one of Wicker’s neighbors told FOX5 Atlanta. “It’s not normal.”

Burglars held at gunpoint: two arrested, two on the loose
    April 23, 2018 5:12 am
WALLA WALLA COUNTY — Four burglars tried to steal from a homeowner living north of State Line Road in Walla Walla County, and ended up being held at gunpoint by the homeowner.

The homeowner was awakened by his alarm system at about 1:12 a.m. Sunday morning to discover that four individuals had entered his shop that was detached from his house and were attempting to take items from inside it.

The homeowner detained two of the subjects at gunpoint and the other two fled the scene. Deputies from the Walla Walla Sheriff’s Office arrived and arrested the two that the homeowner had detained for suspicion of first degree burglary.

A loaded handgun was found on scene which had been dropped by one of the fleeing suspects. An investigation is ongoing.

Bend man, 79, confronts, holds burglar at gunpoint
Both men are injured; only suspect is hospitalized

BEND, Ore. - A burglar who broke a window to enter a northwest Bend home early Monday morning was injured in a struggle with a 79-year-old resident who then held him at gunpoint until police arrived, officers said.

Police were dispatched around 5:35 a.m. to the 2600 block of Northwest Nordic Avenue on a report of a burglary in progress, Lt. Clint Burleigh said. The woman told the dispatcher a man had broken into their home and was being held at gunpoint by her husband.

Burleigh said their investigation found that Shelton White, 45, of Bend, had broken a window of the home and was trying to get in when he was confronted by the residents, who had awakened to loud banging.

A struggle ensued, as the resident tried to keep White out of his home, the lieutenant said, adding that both men sustained injuries at that time.

Along with Bend police, Deschutes County sheriff's deputies responded to the home and took White into custody without further incident, Burleigh said.

The resident received medical treatment at his home, while Bend Fire and Rescue medics took White to St. Charles Bend, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

White was not known to the residents, Burleigh said, adding that "drugs and/or alcohol were found to be a factor in this case."

White faces charges of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief, the spokesman said.

Police: Man on meth gets gun in face

Brunswick police said illegal drugs left a man so dazed and confused Sunday that he tried to climb into a car with strangers, a misstep that found him staring down the barrel of a gun, according to a report.

One of the men inside the car held the hapless 18-year-old St. Simons Island man at gunpoint in the 3000 block of North Cleburne Street until police arrived, the report said. Rylin Ellis was eventually taken to the Glynn County Detention Center on a charge of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. Ellis remained Monday in the county jail on $12,000 bond, the report said.

Police allegedly found a “small bag of white rocky substance” in Ellis’s sock. The powder proved to be methamphetamine, of which Ellis allegedly had consumed plenty, the report said.

Two men inside a car saw Ellis acting strangely on the sidewalk while their vehicle was stopped on Parkwood Drive at Altama Avenue, the police report said. Ellis allegedly was dancing and attempting to strike passing vehicles, the report said.

Ellis allegedly tried unsuccessfully to open the rear driver’s side door of the car in which the two men were riding. When he allegedly stuck his head into the open front driver’s side window, the passenger pointed a handgun at him, the report said. Ellis then allegedly ran into the 3000 block of North Cleburne Street, behind Golden Isles Pharmacy.

The men followed Ellis in the vehicle, finding him on North Cleburne Street. They called police, holding Ellis at gunpoint until an officer arrived, the police report said.

Police arrived and handcuffed Ellis, allegedly finding the baggy of methamphetamine in the process, the report said. Ellis allegedly was incoherent and rambunctious in the back of the squad car.

Police took him to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital for medical observation, the report said. He allegedly answered “god” and “what do you think it should be?” when police asked Ellis for his name, the report said.

Later, Ellis told police he allegedly tried to climb inside the car because he thought he knew the occupants, the report said. Ellis allegedly told police the meth belonged to someone else.

The two men told police they pursued Ellis and held him at gunpoint because “they believed he posed a threat to the public,” the report said

After racial slurs in Miami McDonald's line, a shot is fired. Was it self defense?

    Devin Gibbs just wanted McDonald's.

But the visit to the North Miami-Dade Golden Arches unraveled when another patron accused him of cutting in line to order. That customer, an older white man, suddenly began spouting racial slurs and threats at Gibbs, a young black man. The episode ended with Gibbs in jail — for firing a shot at the irate but unarmed customer, causing panic inside the restaurant.

Nearly three years later, however, Gibbs has been cleared of any crime. He persuaded a Miami judge that he was only acting in self-defense when he fired at Phillip Ledea at the door of the fast food restaurant in December 2015.

A Miami judge this month tossed out felony charges against Gibbs, 25, a part-time dockworker who had gone to McDonald's to pick up a meal for his son the day after Christmas. He had been charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Ledea was not injured in the shooting.

Circuit Judge Veronica Diaz cleared Gibbs under Florida's 2005 Stand Your Ground law, which eliminated a citizen's duty to retreat before using potentially deadly force to meet a threat. The law also gave judges greater leeway to dismiss cases.

Over the years, judges in Miami have dismissed cases against shooters who killed various people armed with karate skills, a bag full of radios or nothing at all. A tennis instructor is still trying to use the law to beat allegations that he hit a 5-year-old boy with a racket.

    Gibbs_Mug.jpg
    Devin Gibbs
The law came under national scrutiny when police cited it for deciding not to arrest an Orlando-area neighborhood watchman who fatally shot unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012; the gunman, George Zimmerman, was later charged and acquitted of murder.

In Gibbs' case, defense lawyers argued that Ledea wrongfully believed that Gibbs had cut in front of him in line at McDonald's. They said that triggered a string of "unprovoked" racial slurs from the older man. "I got something for you ... N****r I'll kill you ... N****r I'm gonna shoot you,'" he told Gibbs, according to defense lawyers.

Gibbs left the McDonald's while waiting for his food, video surveillance showed, then came back once Ledea had sat down to eat.

Gibbs then picked up his own order and left the restaurant. But Ledea suddenly followed "screaming threats" from the open door, according to a defense motion.

Gibbs believed that this time [Ledea] was armed and was coming outside to act on his threat to kill him or do serious bodily harm," lawyers Andrew Rier and Jonathan Jordan wrote in their request to throw out the case.

According to the lawyers, the surveillance video showed Ledea "grab toward his waistband" as though he had a gun.

Gibbs threw down his food, pulled out his own gun and fired one shot, shattering the glass door and sending terrified customers scrambling for cover. Nobody was hit.

Ledea, in a deposition, later admitted he made the threat and he was "going to kick his ass," according to court documents.

The older man, who has a history of arrests, also admitted he drank beer that day and "that he had engaged in fighting other kids ages 18-20."

"I'm a New Yorker, I don't back down from nothing," he said, according to his deposition.

SAPD investigators to decide whether motel shooting was self-defense
Woman, 33, says ex-boyfriend assaulted her before she shot him, police say

SAN ANTONIO - SAN ANTONIO Police Department homicide investigators will decide whether a shooting at a Northeast Side motel was in self-defense, as the shooter claims.

Officers who answered the 911 call around 4:30 a.m. Monday found evidence of a shooting at a Motel 6 near Interstate 35 and Thousand Oaks Drive.

Police said a 33-year-old woman told them she shot her ex-boyfriend when he tried to attack and sexually assault her following a disturbance earlier in the evening.

The woman said she thought he had left the property, but she quickly realized she was wrong when she opened her door, police said.

"He returned," said Sgt. Michael Wilson. "As she was trying to enter back into her room, he forced her in, produced a knife."

Wilson said it's unclear where the gun came from, but the woman used it to shoot the man twice.

Police said the man ran from the room and got into an SUV with a friend.

"We're not sure how she knew that he was here, but as he was running out, she picked him up and they drove away," Wilson said.

Within a few minutes, police received another call about a shooting a few highway exits away at I-35 and O'Connor Road.

When officers arrived, they found a man with two gunshot wounds to his upper body in the back seat of an SUV.

Wilson said they confirmed he was the same man who was shot at the Motel 6. He was taken to a hospital with apparent life-threatening wounds, police said.

Investigators spent hours collecting evidence from the second-floor hotel room where the shooting happened.

Wilson said it's too early to tell if the shooting qualifies as self-defense.

Home Invasion Victims Use AR–15 To Defend Themselves Against Five Armed Intruders
Three men were asleep inside their Glen St. Mary, Fla. mobile home when five young intruders claiming to be police broke down the front door at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, News 4 Jax reports.

The first intruder wore a mask and shouted, “Sheriff’s office!” from outside the trailer before breaking the front door down and shooting a single round.

Upon hearing the break-in, two of the three men staying in the mobile home — one armed with an AR–15 and another with a handgun — confronted the criminals with open fire in self-defense.

The armed victims shot about 30 rounds, killing the gunman who wore a mask — Corey Lauramore — and wounding two others — William Lauramore and an unidentified 16-year-old.

The intruders’ group was made up of a total of seven young men, even though only five entered the house, including Corey Lauamore, 18; William Lauramore, 24; Joseph Albino, 24; Zachary Bell, 20; Christian Watkins, 19; Cayden Lauramore, 15; and a 16-year-old male.

The three victims dialed 911 after shooting three of the five intruders and made it out of the scene alive and unharmed.

According to investigators, the invasion “escalated” as the result of conflict between the two groups “that was stoked by social media threats.”

So we DO need an AR-15 and 30-round mag to defend our homes.

One injured during home invasion, investigation underway
    By IVY JACOBS Times Reporter

A man remains hospitalized after being shot over the weekend as officials continue to investigate the reported home invasion that caused the incident.

Raymond Mark Morris, 36, was shot in the leg and taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital early Sunday morning after he allegedly forced his way into a northern Brazil residence around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The unidentified homeowner reported the shooting incident to Clay County 911 Dispatch Center.

The homeowner told Brazil City Police Department officers they awoke to hear someone beating and yelling at the front door, demanding to be let into a residence at 307 North Ashley Street.

Although told to leave at least two times, the man refused and continued yelling, beating and kicking at the door.

The homeowner issued another warning as the door was kicked in, telling the man to not enter the house or he would be shot. When the man advanced toward the homeowner, officials confirmed that only one shot was fired from a handgun, striking the intruder in the right leg.

The homeowner surrender the weapon and fully cooperated with law enforcement officers when they arrived. During the subsequent investigation officers discovered the front door was damaged.

Morris, although injured, was communicating with police officers and the STAR Ambulance personnel who treated Morris’ injuries at the scene. Morris was transported to the Terre Haute hospital because it has a trauma unit.

Officials confirmed Morris underwent surgery Sunday morning and is currently in stable condition.

Once the investigation is complete a report will turned over to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Due to the ongoing investigation into the matter, further details are unavailable at this time.

Alleged Armed Robbery Suspect Shot By Victim After Meeting To Buy PlayStation

EAST HILLS (KDKA) — Gunfire was heard in a city neighborhood when an alleged armed robbery didn’t go as planned.

Police said it all started when some guys talked on Facebook and planned a meeting to sell a PlayStation.

According to police, the man who tried to turn the sale into a robbery ended up being shot by one of the victims. KDKA-TV was told one of the victims was lawfully carrying a gun concealed and that this was a case of either shoot or be shot.

Police said the two victims, who are not being identified, thought they were meeting someone on Fairlawn Street in Pittsburgh’s East Hills on Monday to buy a PlayStation.

Police said 20-year-old Miel Santiago, of Pittsburgh, was already there with another man who was on a cell phone when they arrived. One of the victims reportedly told police the man on the phone said, “OK, we can go in.”

Police said the victims told them that’s when Santiago walked towards them and pulled a gun out of his waistband. Police said one of the victims pulled out a gun too and fired at Santiago, hitting him in the leg. Another bullet went right through the living room window of a home on Fairlawn Street.

The 85-year-old homeowner was not hurt and did not want to be interviewed but showed KDKA the bullet that’s still sitting in between the window panes.

Police said the victims called 911 and stayed at the scene until police arrived. Santiago and the other man are said to have run away in opposite directions. Santiago also reportedly left his gun behind.

Santiago is charged with two counts of robbery and two counts recklessly endangering another person, as well as carrying a firearm without a license, criminal mischief and conspiracy.

Santiago is recovering at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He is under guard. When he is released, he will be taken directly to the Allegheny County Jail.
