Home owner pulls gun on intruder in his home
    October 11, 2019
Home owner pulls gun on intruder in his home
    Akeemo George
A home owner on Bequia drew his licensed firearm before calling the police for a young man who admitted to trespassing into his house and hiding under his son’s bed.

George Bonyoun of Belmont, Bequia was going about his normal business on Monday, October 7, doing some gardening outside of his house.

He went back inside at around 11am and this was when he heard a sound coming from a bedroom downstairs. Upon investigation, he met Akeemo George coming out of one of the bedrooms. George is known to him, because the young man works with Bonyoun on afternoons between 4:00 and 4:30 doing gardening and mason work.

Bonyoun questioned George as to what he was doing, and the reply was “I’m hiding from the police. Can you put me up?” When asked why he was hiding from the police George said that he had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend.

However, the questioning continued, and George was asked how he had gotten into the house, which he didn’t answer. He then informed the home owner that he was present at the house since 8 am, had seen him go to pick mangoes, and that he had been under Bonyoun’s son’s bed.

Upon hearing this, Bonyoun, a licensed firearm holder, drew his gun and contacted the police. When the police reached the home George told an officer that he was running from the police. However, he was told that noone was out looking for him. George then said that he wanted a place to rest up.

Later, he volunteered a statement to the police admitting to the offence of trespassing with the intent to commit the offence of theft.

George has a criminal record, and this compounded his problems because he had not satisfied numerous commitments to the court.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne sentenced the Redemption Sharpes youth to six months for the offence which he committed on Monday. However, for breaching a bond he was placed on, a six month sentence was activated, for compensation which he did not pay, a two month prison sentence was also activated and finally, a four month prison sentence must also be served in place of a fine that he was given by the Serious Offences Court that he did not pay.

All sentences are to be served consecutively, and so George will be spending 18 months in prison.

Man shoots granddaughter's boyfriend during violent home invasion, JPSO says

A Bridge City man shot his granddaughter’s boyfriend in the groin with a shotgun after the boyfriend forced his way into a house and violently beat the man, authorities said.

Miguel Ramirez, 25, of Marrero, was arrested early Monday at a Kenner hospital where he sought treatment for his wounds, said Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Ramirez is also accused of kidnapping his 22-year-old girlfriend after attacking her grandfather, 66.

Family relieved after man is found not guilty by reason of insanity in father's murder
The violent confrontation began Sunday night when Ramirez and his girlfriend were involved in a “physical altercation” somewhere in New Orleans, according to Rivarde. No details were available Thursday about that incident.

After the fight, the couple went to her grandparents’ home on 15th Street in Bridge City about 11:30 p.m. to pick up their three young children, according to Rivarde. The woman went into the house to get the kids, who are under the age of 5.

The woman told her grandfather about the altercation and asked him to contact authorities for help.

But before he could call 911, Ramirez stormed into the house and began beating the grandfather, authorities said. The grandfather suffered a broken nose, severe swelling around his eyes and bruising on his face.

Ramirez then grabbed his girlfriend and dragged her out of the house, according to Rivarde.

“The grandfather, fearing that (Ramirez) is going to harm his granddaughter, gets his shotgun and fires one time,” Rivarde said.

Ramirez managed to get to his vehicle and drive off with his girlfriend.

The grandfather didn’t realize that he had wounded Ramirez, who had been shot in the groin and thigh, Rivarde said. He called 911 to report the home invasion.

Meanwhile, Ramirez drove to Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner. Emergency room doctors there notified authorities about the gunshot wounds, and Sheriff’s Office investigators arrived.

Ramirez was later booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on counts of home invasion, second-degree battery, simple kidnapping and domestic abuse-child endangerment. He was being held without bail Thursday, according to jail records.

Steger: Altercation leads to Tuesday night shooting

HAMLIN — A New Concord man remained in a Nashville, Tennessee hospital Wednesday after being shot at a residence Tuesday evening in southeastern Calloway County.

Calloway County Sheriff Sam Steger said an argument of some type appears to have preceded the shooting that resulted in a man he identified as Charles Milam, 33, of New Concord, receiving a leg wound. The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said its 911 communications center received a call at about 8:20 p.m. to report the shooting at a residence on Ridge Road near the Hamlin community.

“We’re still not sure of the details of the argument, but that appears to be what led to all of this,” Steger said. “From what we’ve gathered, the guy that got shot got into some kind of argument. Then a short time after that, he went over to the house where the person he had argued with lives and forced his way in. That’s when someone inside grabbed a shotgun and fired at him, hitting him in the upper right leg.

“From what it looks like, everyone (involved) knows each other. In fact, after the one guy got shot, others in the house tried to help him.”

Steger said the residents attempted to use a trousers belt as a tourniquet to stem blood flow. He said the shot resulted in what he described as profuse bleeding from the leg.

However, the location of the wound made it difficult for the belt to work as intended, Steger said. Blood was still pouring from the wound when law enforcement arrived, so Deputy Troy Doss, who responded with Deputy Thomas Reynolds, obtained an actual tourniquet from his patrol unit and applied it to the wound.

“It looked like it worked pretty well,” Steger said of the tourniquet. “So he used that and got it clamped down until EMS arrived.”

A unit from the Murray-Calloway County Ambulance Service arrived a short time later and took Milam to the emergency room at Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray. After receiving initial treatment, Milam was then taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he underwent surgery early Wednesday morning, Steger said.

CCSO said Milam was listed in critical condition after arriving at Vanderbilt late Tuesday night. A spokesperson said no update of his condition was available on Wednesday afternoon due to security priorities for both the hospital and the patient.

Calloway County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney James Burkeen said Wednesday that he had talked with law enforcement about the case Tuesday night, but no decision has been reached at this time as to whether or not criminal charges will be filed.

OFFICIALS: Smith County homeowner, neighbor shoot at suspects attempting to run them down in vehicle following burglary attempt
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Saturday.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Smith County Sheriffs Office is investigating an overnight shooting incident.

According to the SCSO, on Saturday, just before 1 a.m., officials were called to the scene of a burglary in progress in the 15000 block of County Road 1356, in southern Smith County.

The sheriff's office says the homeowner claimed he came home from work and saw a vehicle pull up to the front of his house with the lights off and several males got out of the vehicle. He stated he then saw the men walking around his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The homeowner believed that the men were trying to break into his car.

The SCSO reports the homeowner walked out of his house armed with a gun and fired several shots into the air. At this time, the men ran away, according to the homeowner. Authorities say the homeowner went back inside his house to call 911 as the suspect vehicle drove away from his residence, headed in the direction of where the men had run.

The homeowner came back outside and met with his neighbor, who was now outside, armed with a firearm, as well. The homeowner was explaining the incident to his neighbor as he was still on the phone with 911.

According to law enforcement, at this time, the suspect vehicle approached both of them at a high rate of speed and with its lights off and both the homeowner and the neighbor felt their lives were in danger as the vehicle approached. The homeowner fired several rounds toward the vehicle and the neighbor fired at least once. The vehicle was struck with the and swerved off the road into the homeowner’s yard. The vehicle then crossed the road and drove into a wooded area. All of the occupants then ran from the vehicle and into the woods.

A short time later, one of the men in the vehicle came out of the woods and told the neighbor he had been shot. A deputy had just arrived on scene and requested EMS. When paramedics responded, the man was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Smith County investigators were able to interview the man who they say admitted to driving the suspect vehicle, along with two passengers. The SCSO says the man also confessed the group had broken into several other vehicles just prior to this incident. Investigators also determined the suspect vehicle was stolen.

The additional suspects are still at large and the known suspect’s name is being withheld pending additional charges.

This investigation is ongoing and CBS19 will update this article as more information becomes available.

DA: Domestic violence suspect confronted by armed neighbor sentenced to 11 years in prison
    REDDING, Calif. —

A domestic violence suspect who was confronted by an armed neighbor was sentenced to 11 years in state prison on Thursday.

According to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office, Carl Hulsey III plead to one count of corporal injury to a spouse, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and admitted to causing great bodily injury for each count, causing each count to be considered a violent “strike” conviction.

On September 26, Hulsey's wife who had been staying at One Safe Place in Redding returned to her home along with her sister to collect some of her belongings.

Authorities say as she entered through the door of her home, Hulsey threw various belongings at her face and slammed the door on her foot several times causing injury and pinning her in the threshold. Husley then began punching the victim in the face, chest and head. She then fell with her foot caught in the door, screaming towards her sister for help.

Her sister ran to the front door to help but was met by Hulsey who authorities say began punching her, knocking her to the ground.

A neighbor also witnessed Hulsey strike the sister in the head with a brick.

The say Hulsey then strangled the victim's sister by placing his knee on her neck. She was not able to breathe, her vision went dark and she lost consciousness briefly.

The sister regained consciousness and saw Hulsey getting in her car in an attempt to drive away. The sister entered the vehicle through the passenger side in an unsuccessful attempt to keep Hulsey from leaving with the car.

Hulsey was able to leave in the car with the sister as an unwilling passenger, making threats that they were going to die together.

The incident ended shortly after when Hulsey stopped at a Win River Mini Mart at the corner of South Bonnyview Road and Eastside Road in Redding.

As Hulsey entered the market the sister managed to message a neighbor who had witnessed the altercation of her whereabouts.

When Hulsey returned from the market, the neighbor confronted Hulsey about the altercation and held him at gunpoint.

Hulsey fled to a nearby field but was eventually found and detained with the help of a CHP helicopter, Redding police officer Travis Williams and his partner K9 Otto.
