This is an interesting story where a man defended himself, but according to the article the police do not want to return his gun.

Lawsuit: Cleveland Police Won't Give Burglary Victim His Gun Back
    http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-...-his-guns-back

    Monday, May 8, 2017

A Cleveland man is going after the city of Cleveland's police department for what's rightfully— Constitutionally-stamped— his. That's the gist of a recent lawsuit filed on behalf of Brian Bridges against the city in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas court. Following a 2015 justified shooting, Bridges claims the city are still holding onto his firearm and wont' return it even though the case is closed.

On March 24, 2015, Bridges returned to his home on Walden Avenue near E. 169th Street around 5:30 p.m. There, he confronted two men burglarizing the property. Bridges, a licensed concealed-carry permit holder, shot one of the burglars— Joseph W. Eason— in the confrontation. The second man— Anthony. A. Akins-Daniels— ran from the scene, but was later apprehended by police. He was later hit with charges related to the death of his accomplice.

According to the suit, on the night of the shooting, Brian Bridges's house was searched by police. Items were taken for the investigation, including a "glock 21 semiautomatic handgun, ammunition, holsters." Although the shooting was ruled self-defense and justifiable, the property was to be used in the trial against Akins-Daniels.

That trial wasn't to be— the defendant pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in October 2015. But now, in 2017, Bridges still hasn't gotten his handgun and other items back, the complaint alleges.

The city "wrongfully, intentionally and maliciously continue to hold" his property and refuses to return it "even though the personal property is not being held under any process of law and is not claimed under title or legal right by any other party or entity," the lawsuit argues.

Bridges's attorney didn't return a call for comment earlier today. We'll update the post with any developments.

HPD: Uncle kills masked suspect, wounds another during home invasion

Police say a Good Samaritan came to the rescue when their neighbors were tied up during a home invasion at a northeast Houston residence overnight.

HOUSTON – A man came to the rescue when his relatives next door were tied up and assaulted during a home invasion in northeast Houston overnight.
Houston Police Department officers responded around 4 a.m. Tuesday to a call of a burglary in progress at a home in the 3700 block of Crandon Street.

“They had my little sister at gunpoint, so we couldn’t do anything,” said 19-year old Rene Garcia.
He and his twin brother tried to lock themselves inside their bedroom when they heard their mom and dad screaming and struggling. At least one gunman threatened to shoot a family member if Rene and his brother didn’t open their bedroom door, Garcia said.

Investigators said four male suspects tied up the family inside the home using their shoelaces. Rene Garcia and his father were pistol-whipped to the point they were rushed to the hospital and given stitches to the backs of their heads.
“They took all our jewelry and all the cash our dad has,” said Garcia.

Garcia’s uncle heard the commotion. He grabbed a gun and confronted the suspect who was beating one family member in the backyard. The uncle shot and wounded that suspect.

When the other three tried to jump a fence, one of them turned toward the uncle with a pistol so he shot him, police said. That suspect died at the scene.
    Two others got away.

“They were all wearing ski masks,” said Houston Police Department Homicide Detective David Stark. Police haven’t been able to track down a solid description of two suspects, nor do police know if the men got away on foot or in a vehicle.

If you have any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

The shootings by the uncle will be referred to a grand jury without charges

This is one I definitely want to know more about. A driveby, over 40 shots fired, and the home owner shot all 3 in the car? And is being treated as self defense. Bet he was glad he was not legally limited in the size of his magazine capacity.

Houston homeowner fires back during drive-by; 2 suspects dead, 1 injured (VIDEO)

    http://abc13.com/news/homeowner-shoo...ing-2/1960774/

Two people believed to be responsible for a drive-by shooting in North Houston early Saturday morning are dead, and a third suspect was injured after the homeowner fired back at his assailants.

Over 40 shots were exchanged, according to authorities, who also say the preliminary investigation indicates the homeowner acted in self-defense.

The homeowner, whose name was not released, was outside when the trio drove by and opened fire. The homeowner took cover behind a bush and returned fire, striking all three suspects.

Soon thereafter, the driver of the car crashed into another vehicle before his car came to a stop in a nearby yard. One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second briefly fled on foot but was soon thereafter apprehended. The fleeing suspect was transported to the hospital where he later died. The third suspect was also transported to the hospital and underwent surgery. His current condition is unknown.

There were no reported injuries to the homeowner or any bystanders.

Authorities also said the day before the drive-by investigators were called to the same house after someone attempted to set it on fire. Police say they believe the home was specifically targeted in both incidents but did not provide further details.

Police: Fairfield store clerk stops armed bandit

    https://www.dailyrepublic.com/solano...-armed-bandit/

FAIRFIELD — An attempted armed robbery was stopped Sunday by the speedy response of a store clerk who shot the would-be bandit in the chest, Fairfield police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 12:40 p.m. at a smoke shop business on the 2100 block of North Texas Street. When they arrived, they found a person wearing a mask who had been shot in the chest by the store clerk, according to Sgt. Matt Bloesch of the Fairfield Police Department.

The suspect entered the store wearing a mask and allegedly pulled a gun on the clerk, Bloesch said. The clerk pulled his own weapon and shot the suspect. Bloesch said the clerk feared for his life.

Bloesch said the suspect was transported to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition. His name, age and city of residence were not released.

Police later reported in a press release that the suspect was armed with a realistic-looking BB gun. The clerk was in legal possession of his gun and acted in self-defense, police said, and does not face criminal charges in connection with the shooting.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.

Police: Lewis County man tries to rob Clarksburg's Sutton Inn, but thwarted by clerk with gun

    https://www.theet.com/news/free/poli...1d5f034b2.html

CLARKSBURG — A 24-year-old Lewis Countian who went to the Sutton Inn to rob the motel was foiled when the clerk pulled a gun, according to police.

Weston’s Austin Jeremiah Lodge showed up at the motel at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in a black hoodie, jeans with sequins and wearing earrings, Clarksburg Patrol Officer Dan Ingles alleges. The suspect covered his face with his hand, according to the criminal complaint, and then said, “Don’t make me pull my piece,” before demanding the money in the cash drawer.

That’s when the clerk pulled a firearm and sent Lodge packing without any valuables, according to the criminal complaint.

Told that the suspect had left toward The Kroger Co. store on Emily Drive, officers found Lodge at the Sleep Inn, Ingles alleged.

Lodge remained jailed Wednesday afternoon on a $100,000 cash-or-surety bond set by Harrison County Magistrate Tammy Marple.

The first-degree robbery charge filed against Lodge carries a minimum prison term of 10 years and has no upper sentencing limit.

BPD: Doctor shot, killed man in self defense in northeast Bakersfield
    http://www.kerngoldenempire.com/news...-bpd/699679489

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UPDATE: Investigators have determined the business owner of Garden Oasis Medical, Dr. Edwin Zong, was assaulted by the suspect, whom he didn't know. As the assault was happening, the suspect made numerous comments regarding money. As a result of the assault, Dr. Zong received injuries to his face and head. Dr. Zong retrieved his firearm from a desk drawer and fired three rounds at the suspect, strinking him the upper torso.

During a search of the business a handgun was located, which was confirmed to be registered and legally owned by Dr. Zong. The indentity of the suspect will be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office.

A Bakersfield doctor, who shot and killed a man at his office Tuesday night, will not be arrested or charged for the man's death, Bakersfield police said Wednesday.

The man killed, who had not been identified as of Wednesday afternoon, was not a patient of Dr. Edwin Zong, police confirmed. In fact, he was there to inquire about becoming a patient when he attacked the doctor, officials said.

Police got the call just before 6 pm.

Nearby resident Henry Miranda was relaxing at home when the shooting happened.

"It was a gunshot pop, bang bang bang, three shots," described Miranda.

Police said Dr. Zong at Garden Oasis Medical World / Oasis Medical Group on Goodman St. got into an altercation with the man, and then it turned deadly after the man allegedly tried to rob Zong.

The man, shot at least three times according to the police, was in his forties.

The doctor sustained injuries from the altercation and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. A bandaged man was handcuffed and put into an ambulance at the scene.

The firearm used was recovered but police did not say who it belonged to.

The doctor's office window-front says it provides internal medicine and holistic remedies such as herbal, acupuncture and massages. Police said the doctor does provide medical marijuana.

    Police: Customer with concealed carry license kills robber;

A robbery was thwarted at a Southwest Side corner store Saturday night when a patron with a concealed carry license shot and killed an armed robber, authorities said.

The dead man has been identified as Reginald Gildersleeve, 55, of the 5000 block of South California Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Gildersleeve was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:10 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy is slated for Sunday.

Citing preliminary information, police said a man walked into a store in the 2700 block of West 51st Street in the Gage Park neighborhood around 7 p.m., announced a robbery to an employee working behind the counter and displayed a handgun.

Another employee came from the back of the store, and the gunman pointed his weapon at her, police said. He then made her go to the back of the store, which also serves as a currency exchange.

After that, a customer who was also inside the business pulled out a gun and opened fire at the robber, killing him, police said. Police initially said the robber was possibly in his 40s.

Police said the shooter has a valid concealed carry license and a valid firearm owner's identification card.

Police: Robbery Suspect Flees After Woman Pulls Gun in Self-Defense

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...man-shows-gun/

According to police, a Kokomo, Indiana, robbery suspect fled the scene after his would-be victim drew her gun in self-defense.
The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on May 12.

According to Fox 59, a woman was walking to her residence and was confronted by a suspect standing at the door. “She said the man displayed a gun, and he threatened her and demanded her money.” She responded by pulling her own gun, and “the suspect ran away.”

Police received a second 911 call around the same time that a nearby resident was “confronting an armed suspect in his home.” When police arrived, the resident told them the armed suspect “pointed a firearm at him and fled the scene on foot.”

Police soon caught the suspect, who was still in the area, and they located “a stolen handgun” as well as “stolen property” near him. They identified the suspect as 19-year-old Jaylin Bolden. He was “arrested and charged with burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of stolen property, and two counts of cruelty to animals.”

POLICE: Man shot and killed neighbor near Decatur and Pennwood

    http://news3lv.com/news/local/police...ur-and-penwood

    Neighbor shoots neighbor (Noon) 05162017
LAS VEGAS (KSNV NEWS3LV) — A man is claiming self-defense after the fatal shooting of another man whom he believes was his neighbor.
Around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex on the 2800 block of South Decatur Boulevard, near Pennwood Avenue.
"A man inside the apartment had said he shot his neighbor. He said the neighbor was in his apartment with a knife and he shot him once,” explained Lt. Dan McGrath of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The man told detectives he was in bed Tuesday morning when he heard someone coming into his apartment.
He says when he got up he saw a man who he believes was his neighbor armed with a knife. He says he shot the man once in the chest out of self-defense.

Investigators say the man who pulled the trigger in the deadly shooting called 911. Officers responded to the scene and when they went inside the apartment, they found one man dead.
"They said the knife was still in his hand before they actually kicked it out of his hand and before they checked to see if he was still alive. That’s all on body camera too,” said McGrath.
The body camera video from the officers will be used in the investigation.

The man who fired the fatal shot was taken to LVMPD headquarters for interviews with investigators.
Meanwhile, LVMPD Crime Scene and Homicide detectives were gathering evidence at the apartment, to determine if the man's story lines up with his claims of self-defense.
“It doesn’t seem like it’s complicated, but then again, these things change sometimes, so we’ll see,” said McGrath.
