Man shoots, critically injures woman’s ex-boyfriend after victim barges into her Midvale apartment

MIDVALE, Utah, May 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was transported to a Murray hospital after police say he barged into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and was shot twice by another man inside.

Unified Police Department Lt. Manfred Lassig, said officials responded at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday to a call of shots fired at 134 W. Plum Tree Lane (approximately 6900 South), Midvale.


The woman lived at the apartment complex, Sgt. Manfred Lassig, Unified Police Department, told Gephardt Daily at the scene.

“Apparently, her ex-boyfriend had showed up,” Lassig said. “She was in the apartment with another male. He (the ex) was banging on the door, and when they opened the door, he barged in.

“A struggle ensued, and the other male that was in the apartment shot the ex-boyfriend, twice. He has been transported to IMC.”

At the time of transport, the victim was in critical condition, Lassig said, adding that both shots were in the leg.

Lassig said any charges to be filed with be determined by investigators and the District Attorney’s Office. The shooting could be classified as self-defense depending on the circumstances.

The shooter and the apartment resident were cooperating with police, Lassig said.

“Detectives are interviewing him. We recovered the weapon. We will go from there.”

Woman says intruder has tried to break into her home twice days apart

A homeowner said someone tried to break into her house for the second in a little over a week-- until she shot at the would-be intruder and scared him away.

Channel 2's Alyssa Hyman is in East Point, where Tiffany Wiseman said she barricaded her door to keep anyone from getting in again after her Heritage Park house was broken into earlier this month. She also armed herself.

Police say at least five similar break-ins have occurred in the same neighborhood.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Lehigh Acres man was arrested in connection to an attempted robbery at a 7-Eleven in Gateway.

Malcolm Smith, 23, is being held in jail on a robbery charge without a firearm or weapon.

The attempted robbery occurred in the 7-Eleven parking lot off Gateway Boulevard and Griffin Drive around 10 p.m. Thursday.

According to an incident report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the victim met up with his friend whom he's known for a few years. The suspect and an unknown man got into the victim's car, and the suspect demanded the victim give up all his stuff. The victim refused and pulled out a gun.

Both parties entered the store while fighting, and the victim tried to get the clerk to call 911, the report states. They went back outside, and the suspect allegedly punched the victim in the head. The victim said he responded by shooting at the suspect in self-defense.

The suspect left with the other man in a dark blue Nissan Altima.

Deputies haven't said if anybody was injured.

Pet horse shot, killed in Florida after wandering into neighboring pasture
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WESH)— A horse was shot and killed in Lake County after it wandered into a neighboring pasture, officials said.

The horse's owner is outraged, but deputies said the man who shot the horse did it in self-defense.

Investigators said the 6-year-old stallion got away from Natore Borst's property and wandered through an open fence to another property.

According to that property's owner, the stallion was going after his mares.

"He was like a family member, I've had him for so long," Borst said.

Borst said she'd raised her horse, named Bolt, since he was a colt.

"I would have wanted them to call me or my father so we could come get him. Then we wouldn't have to be burying him today," Borst said.

Lake County officials said the property owner had the right to protect himself.

According to sheriff's officials, the property owner who shot the horse first tried to remove the equine intruder.

Officials said he was using feed to get the horse to come to him so he could try to rope him, when the horse reared up.

Deputies said the stallion kicked the man in the shoulder, knocked him on the ground, and seemed to be getting ready to trample him.

Borst, insists her horse is gentle. She shared pictures of children riding him to make that point.

Officials said the horse had a history of getting out of his pasture, including at least a half dozen times in the last two years.

Bolt's owner has even been cited but she doesn't think it warranted a death sentence..

Investigators said as far as they are concerned, the case is closed.

The man who was reportedly kicked by the horse did not need medical attention.

Man fires back after being shot in his backyard, police in search of suspects

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man says he fought back after someone shot him in his backyard in Nashville.

Wednesday night, a woman flagged down some officers with the Juvenile Task Force out on patrol and told them someone shot had her husband.

Police say the victim was in the backyard of his home on Crowe Drive when two men walked up to him and shot him in the stomach.

The victim then pulled out a gun of his own and began firing but the gunmen got away. Police are still unsure if the victim hit either during the gunfire.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but he is expected to survive.

According to police, someone has since dropped a man off at St. Thomas Hospital who matched the description of one of the gunmen. He had a gunshot wound but police are unsure if he was involved in this particular shooting.

This is an ongoing investigation.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A Phoenix man prevented a situation from getting worse when he forced an intruder to lie down at gunpoint, according to court documents.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, near 67th Avenue near Thomas Road.

Police said right after Aaron Ayala left his apartment, 38-year-old Francisco Antonio Armendariz "aggressively" knocked on his door with his girlfriend still inside the apartment. She looked through the peephole and saw Armendariz pacing back and forth on the third-floor landing.

That's when the woman went back to her bedroom, locked the door and called her Ayala.

"Someone was in the house. I remember hanging up and ran straight over there," Ayala told Arizona's Family.

He then came back to the apartment and saw Armendariz opened the front door. He then drew his handgun and told Armendariz to lie down on the ground, court documents say.

"He took a step where he was prepared to do something. But once he got (close to the gun)... he completely shut down," said Ayala.

Officers arrived and took Armendariz into custody.

Court documents say Armendariz admitted to getting into the apartment through an unlocked kitchen window.

While at the jail, police said Armendariz punched a man who was sleeping and handcuffed in the intake waiting area. The victim possibly suffered a broken nose.

Armendariz faces one count of first-degree trespassing and one count of aggravated assault.

Bond was set at $10,000.

Boise woman fires shot at man trying to break into her home

A Boise woman shot at a burglar she found on her porch, apparently trying to break into the front door of her home Thursday night.

In a press release Friday, Boise police said the woman heard a noise and then noticed that her front door was ajar. So she grabbed her gun before going to investigate.

She confronted the man on her front porch and fired the gun one time, police said. He fled the scene.

Police found evidence that the burglar was using a pry bar to try to get the door open. They searched for the suspect with a dog and drone but did not find him.

The incident happened at a house on Walnut Street and Warm Springs Avenue. Police were called to a report of a prowler at about 10:24 p.m.

The woman was not able to provide a good description of the suspect. Residents in that area with home surveillance cameras that might have recorded anything notable last night are asked to contact police.

Most of the articles posted in this thread are of people who have a firearm when they need it and most likely have a different outcome because of their firearm. For every story of someone with a firearm whose gun makes a difference, I read dozens of stories where if a person had a firearm, things could have made the situation a lot better. Unfortunately a lot of people realize the worth of being able to protect yourself after something serious has happened, often with tragic results.

This is a story of a person who found herself in a bad situation and got through it. Now she carries because she realizes the worth of the firearm.

Pitbull recovering from serious injuries after being mauled by bear

A dog in western Wisconsin is recovering from serious injuries after it was attacked Sunday evening by a bear.

Doug Nelson said he let his dog out before bed and she was attacked while outside.

"One she got over there I couldn't see her anymore and I heard this loud whimper, cry, and snarling," Nelson said.

Nelson said his 5-year-old pit bull mix Carly is known to chase a deer or two behind the house but Sunday night she got more than she bargained for.

"I could see there was a bear out there on top of her," Nelson said. "I ran back into the house and I got my gun and I ran back out there."

He fired two warning shots and Carly got free, but as she ran back onto the deck, the bear gave chase.

Nelson fired his gun in self defense.

"It still came up and still on the patio door with my wife on the other side," Nelson said. "It didn't want to give up."

But seconds later the bear gave up and ran back to its cubs. Nelson believes the bear thought Carly was a threat and she paid the price for it.

"She's got a lot of bite marks on the top of her head in around her ears," Nelson said. "Then she's got a good one on the inside of her neck.

Authorities said this was a case of wrong place, wrong time for both the dog and the bear. An investigation did not find any evidence the bear had been shot, nor could they find the sow and her cubs in the area.

Black bears are coming out of hibernation and are looking for food. Officials recommend bringing bird feeders, garbage cans and pet food inside until the bear moves on.

"Be careful with your children and your dogs out there," Nelson said. "They've been hibernating. They're hungry. I'm sure that's why they're in town looking for more stuff.

NCPD: Man shot at 2 men he believed were trying to rob him
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) —

Police have released new details about a shooting Tuesday, May 13, at an apartment complex in North Charleston.

A 22-year-old resident of the Atlantic Palms Apartments told police he shot his pistol at two men who he believed were attempting to rob him, according to a newly released incident report.

After hearing an “unusual” knock on his door, North Charleston Police say the apartment tenant told them he opened his door to find two men standing outside, one holding a rifle. Police say the tenant claimed one of the two men then pushed him to the floor of his apartment.

The apartment resident, who was armed with a pistol of his own, pulled his gun and fired several shots at the two men in self-defense, police say. The two men then ran away from the apartment.

Police say they saw bullet holes in the door of the apartment, blood on walls outside, and a trail of blood leading away from apartment into the parking lot.

The shooting incident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. May 12, the NCPD says. Soon after, police say a gunshot victim showed up at nearby to Trident Hospital.

Police have not yet announced any criminal charges related to the incident, or revealed any of the other parties reportedly involved.
