Teenager shot, killed while trying to sell shoes on Instagram

    http://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/inst...eath/655849391
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities are investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old who was trying to sell shoes using Instagram.

Police say Jay'dyn Parks was shot and killed during the meetup for the online shoe sale. Channel 2's Nicole Carr has learned the buyers with the weapon are citing self-defense and are cooperating with police.

But that doesn't sit well with Parks' father, Johnny, who spoke with Carr Wednesday afternoon.

"We gettin' through it," he told Carr.

Parks said he heard the two rounds of gunfire that killed his son.

"I could feel it in my stomach. I had my wife to call my son. We couldn't make contact with him. I put my clothes on and began to look for him," he explained.

Parks found him in the back of an ambulance, less than a mile from their Hampton home. He had been shot multiple times.

Now, police are trying to figure out how Jay'dyn Parks' Instagram shoe sale led to his death.

"We're not 100 percent sure but right now the evidence leads to both individuals possibly had a gun," said Chief Derrick Austin with the Hampton Police Department.

What we do know is Parks posted an ad for these shoes to his Instagram account some time on Monday. Hampton police said a woman and a man in their early 20s had driven from Forest Park to Hampton to buy the shoes.

By 10:00 that night, shots were fired and the Forest Park pair left the scene to call police and report the shooting.

Police haven't released records or names, but said one of the buyers was behind the trigger.

"I can confirm that is their claim. That it's self-defense," Austin said. "There were seven shell casings on the scene and there's possibly going to be some more shell casings inside the car."

Police have a search warrant for the buyers' car.

Parks' father told Carr, he's leaving it up to God and the justice system to bring him closure.

"I just let God and authorities handle it. Whatever the outcome, I'm at peace," he said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. It will be completed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation headquarters.

‘Tragic case’: Ben Lomond father says he shot, killed son in self-defense

    http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/gen...n-self-defense
By Nicholas Ibarra, Santa Cruz SentinelUpdated: 14 secs ago
BEN LOMOND >> The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting death in Ben Lomond as a homicide.

About 4:19 p.m Sunday, deputies responded to a report of gunshot wound at the 100 block of Ridge Road, according to information provided by the office.

The caller told dispatch he shot his adult son in the upper body after his son attacked him.

The son died at the scene, according to information provided by the sheriff’s office.

No arrests have been made, and neither man has been identified, in what the sheriff’s office in a statement called a “tragic case.”

A homicide committed in self-defense may be considered justified, and therefore noncriminal.

An investigation is ongoing in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office

Prosecutor: Muncie woman shot teenage relate in self-defense

    http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2...ews/312049811/
    Associated Press
MUNCIE, Ind. -- A prosecutor says a Muncie woman who fatally shot a teenage relative in a dispute after a sentencing hearing did so in self-defense and won't face criminal charges.

Chief Delaware County Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman issued the decision on Marilyn Wilson on Monday. The Star Press reports Hoffman noted armed courthouse security felt the need to escort the 43-year-old woman and a male acquaintance to their vehicle following the Aug. 31 hearing.

Seventeen-year-old Allayzia Jackson was shot in the chest during the confrontation. Police have said family members supportive of the teen's brother, Deshaun Jackson, were angry at Wilson for testifying against him at his trial. After he was sentenced to 25 years, his supporters surrounded Wilson's car, and Allayzia Jackson reached inside an open window and punched Wilson.

Bystander shoots suspect after attack on North Georgia deputy

    http://www.ajc.com/news/crime--law/j...oZEhhRkpa0NJK/
A Dawson County sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital after a suspect beat him with his fist, officials said.

The deputy was assaulted after he gave the suspect a courtesy ride to a Dawsonville Chevron gas station at the intersection of Ga. 400 and Ga. 53, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The deputy, who suffered head and face injuries, was in the process of giving the suspect money at the time of the alleged attack.

Johnson said a bystander stopped her car and shot the suspect, who ran to a McDonald’s across the street and assaulted a woman.

Other good Samaritans held the man down until deputies arrived on the scene, Channel 2 Action News reported. The suspect was shot at least once, the sheriff said.

Johnson said he is not sure when the deputy initiated contact with the suspect. It is also being investigated if the suspect had an object in his hand at the time of the beating.

The deputy, the woman who was attacked and the suspect were taken to an area hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

Jacksonville police: Woman shoots ex-husband after he breaks into her home with crowbar, attacks her

    https://www.google.com/amp/amp.actio...-her/659190887
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for a man accused of attacking his ex-wife as he tried to break into her home.

The victim told police she shot Randolph Bishop in the face before he ran away.

Police said Bishop tried to break into the victim's home with a crowbar.

According to a police report, Bishop said he wanted to talk, and when the woman agreed, he attacked her.

The Sheriff's Office said the woman had a gun and fired at Bishop, hitting him in somewhere in the face.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said she had every right to protect herself.

“She was in fear and her fears came to life when he assaulted her outside. She did the next best thing and protected herself and is well within her rights to protect herself,” Jefferson said.

The report said a neighbor heard a commotion and ran over to take the gun away from the two.

Neighbors say it was a bold move.

“That’s very heroic,” said neighbor Joe Johnson.

The Sheriff's Office said Bishop took off. Jefferson said police will be watching for Bishop to get medical attention for his gunshot wound.

A St. Louis police crime scene investigator looks over the clothing of a shooting victim on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, in front of the Euclid Market at Euclid Avenue and Hammett Place in St. Louis. Four people were shot shortly after noon. Paramedics had to cut away the victim's clothing to treat his wounds.

ST. LOUIS • A robber, his intended targets and a bystander were all injured in a shootout just after noon Sunday, police said.

All four were said to be stable at hospitals after the shootout, but their medical conditions were not available.

It started when a man and woman, 23 and 37, walked out of Euclid Market at 2318 Euclid Avenue about 12:15 p.m. Sunday. That's when two robbers armed with handguns tried to rob them, police said.

The male victim pulled out his own gun and exchanged shots with the robbers, police said. Both robbery victims were hit, as was a 24-year-old bystander inside the market, police said. It's not clear who fired the shot that injured her.

The robbers ran off. But a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound later showed up at a hospital, and police believe he was one of the robbers. He was taken into custody, police said.

The shootout was in the Kingsway East neighborhood.

Killing of Instagram shoe seller ruled self defense
The shooter called 911 after fleeing the scene.

    http://www.11alive.com/article/news/...e/85-497362142
HAMPTON, Ga. -- The fatal shooting of a teen killed after posting popular shoes for sale on Instagram was self-defense, according to police.

On Nov. 27, 18-year-old Jaadyn Parks was shot and killed about a mile from his Hampton home after meeting up to sell a pair of Jordan 1s that he posted on Instagram. The shooter and his girlfriend fled the scene but were one of the many people who called 911 to report the shooting.

After an investigation, the Henry County District Attorney chose not to charge 23-year-old Cash Davis. Hampton Police Chief Derrick Austin said the shooting was self-defense.

According to his statement to police, this is the timeline of events that led to the shooting:

Davis sees the post on Instagram. He and Parks exchange messages and Davis agrees to buy the rare pair of shoes for $125.

Davis drives with his girlfriend, Keyondra Powell, to the meet-up location in Hampton, near the entrance to a subdivision less than a mile from Parks’ home. Parks walk there. It’s just after 10 p.m.

Davis is sitting in his car, half in and half out, starting to try on the shoes when Parks puts a handgun to Davis’s head and demands the cash. Davis has a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun in a holster in his front seat and manages to get it free and shoot Parks.

Davis hits Parks eight times and speeds off with Powell. They are frightened for their lives and Davis immediately calls 911.

According to police, evidence backs up Davis’ story. For example, Parks' autopsy shows the angle of fire of the eight bullets and the probable distance of fire to be consistent with Davis saying he shot Parks from a close distance.

"He said he was sitting in the car he was taking the shoes off after he had tried the shoes on. And at that time Mr. Parks stuck a gun to his head and demanded the money and the shoes," Austin said.

Seven shell casings from Davis’ gun were also found on the street where Parks and his gun were found, the eighth shell casing was in Davis’ car.

Chief Austin and his detective met with the Henry County district attorney Tuesday to present the evidence. The D.A. concluded that no charges will be filed at this time and that this case will be treated as self-defense. He said it appears Parks committed criminal attempt of armed robbery.

Austin said he hurts for Davis, and he hurts for Parks and his family. He said Parks had no known police record and that Parks made a bad and fatal decision that night.

He described Davis as "distraught" after the shooting.

"I mean they went from just fine purchasing shoes to, you know, having to take a life and very very upset," Austin said.

"Very tragic. I mean it's tragic that that we've lost a young man who made a bad decision and it's tragic for the young man that took his life. I mean he's going to live with this the rest his life. Even though it's a self-defense case, it's something he's going to have to live and deal with for forever."

The pair met up at night in a place where there weren't many people to witness. Chief Austin is once again urging people to meet strangers in public, crowded places or at any one of the many, many meet-up locations at police stations almost everywhere to compete their online transactions .

"If you're going to buy something off-line you need to meet in a safe location," Austin said. "We have one here in our parking lot there's a 24-hour video surveillance - it's lit. I mean, if you're going to do these kinds of transactions, they need to be in a safe location."

He said these transactions are risky but there are safe ways to minimize the risk.

"You're taking a big chance," he said. "Always have other people with you but I still think that, if you're going to do it, you need to go somewhere where there's other witnesses around or it's somewhere where there's video to protect yourself."

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The death of an 16-year-old on the city’s northeast side has been reclassified as a self-defense shooting, according to Indianapolis police.

The reclassification brought the city’s number of criminal homicides back down to 148 on Wednesday, one shy of tying the record of 149 set in 2016.

Police began investigating the shooting when they were called to the Villages at Mill Crossing Apartments near 39th St. and Sherman Dr. on Nov. 22. The teen who died was found a short distance away in the 3500 block of 39th St.

An 18-year-old was also shot during the incident. He was transported to a local hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Grieving family members comforted each other as detectives gathered evidence and information at the scene.

“For a family, this is a tragedy,” said IMPD Officer Genae Cook. “Not just because it is the day before Thanksgiving but we’re going into the holiday season when everyone is very close with their loved ones.”
