Would-be mugger surprised by gun-toting victim

Victim had just withdrawn cash from ATM

    http://www.wisn.com/article/would-be...ictim/12121430
An armed robber targeted a man who had just made a withdrawal from a cash machine, but the victim turned the tables.

Sierra McFatridge was out in her yard Monday night when she heard a crack of gunfire and came face to face with a robber.

"I was just outside getting my dog and then you just hear this shot, and I see this guy falling right in front of me," McFatridge said. "I didn't know where the shot came from and then he was right there. It scared me."

Police said a 51-year-old man was walking in the Jackson Park neighborhood when the robber hit him in the head.

Neighbors said the man told them he had been at an ATM up the street, and he had just withdrawn cash. He was walking home when the robber attacked.

"He was obviously following him from the bank because he knew he had money on him," McFatridge said.

The robber's weapon was a rock. It was the victim who had the gun.

"Hit the guy with a rock in his head, and the guy who got hit with the rock fired," said Gina Sarabia, McFatridge's mother.

"He didn't expect that guy to have a gun," Sarabia said.

The robber got away. A neighbor spotted a woman in a getaway car and gave police the license plate number.

"It's scary. It really is. I mean that's my daughter," Sarabia said. She's just thankful her daughter wasn't hit.

"I am a little leery about people having guns in front of my house walking down the street, but in reality he defended himself. That's why we have concealed carry," Sarabia said.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The district attorney will review the case to decide if the victim was justified in firing his gun.

Don't Mess With Texas: Shotgun-Wielding Man Protects Store From Looters

    http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/08/3...-youtube-video
    Don't mess with Texas.

A viral video shows a shotgun-wielding man guarding a Houston grocery store from alleged looters amid the Hurricane Harvey flooding.

In the video, which was posted to YouTube on August 29 by user TexasProud, the self-proclaimed "ex-SWAT deputy" warns people who appear to be ransacking the Little York Food Mart.

“Hey, don’t go back in that store! I’m telling you one time. I’m not scared to shoot you," he says. “I’m an ex-f***ing SWAT deputy! I will cut your a** in half."

The alleged looters appear to run away after the warning.

“It’s a shame. We need more real men out here to step up and protect where you live,” the armed man tells the woman behind the camera. "This storm is temporary."

I normally avoid police self defense stories for this thread, but this officer was off duty and I think fits the parameters of the thread since it was not in the line of duty.

Off-Duty CPD Officer Fatally Shoots Robber In Hazel Crest

    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/08/...y-hazel-crest/
CHICAGO (CBS) — An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot at two robbers, fatally wounded one, during a sale of a computer.

Hazel Crest police responded around 10 p.m. Tuesday night to a call of shots fired and a robbery on Birchwood Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with his hands in the air, who identified himself as a Chicago Police officer, police said in a news release. The Chicago police officer was off-duty and said his weapon was on the hood of his car, which Hazel Crest officers secured.

The officers also found a second male lying face down between two nearby houses. The man had a gun in his hand and a Chicago Police badge next to him on the ground, police said.

After checking the man’s vitals, officers called Hazel Crest paramedics, who were unable to revive the man.

Upon a search of the man’s pockets for identification, officers found a key fob for an automobile, later verified to belong to the off-duty Chicago Police officer.

Hazel Crest Police believe the off-duty Chicago officer met with subjects who were supposed to sell him a computer. The arrangements of the met-up were initiated through an online sales network. Upon arrival to Hazel Crest, the off-duty officer exited his vehicle and approached two subjects who said they had a computer for sale.

Then one of the offenders drew a handgun, held the off-duty officer at gunpoint and removed his personal belongings from his pocket. The offenders then discovered the officer’s badge and firearm. They took his badge but before they could disarm him, the off-duty officer was able to fire at both offenders.

One of the suspects, identified as 17-year-old Aaron Brandon, fell between two houses nearby, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The other fled the scene.

Brandon, a Homewood resident, was pronounced dead South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest at 10:42 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Thursday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Hazel Crest detectives are investigating the armed robbery, while the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating the officer’s use of force.

    Omaha homeowner shoots intruder
AUGUST 31, 2017 BY KARLA JAMES

    https://nebraskaradionetwork.com/201...ts-intruder-2/
A home near 80th and Harney in Omaha was surrounded by police crime tape just after 8 this morning. Officer Greg O’Neil says this is a case when the suspect ended up a victim.

Officer O’Neil says, “According to the homeowner he encountered a burglar inside and fired a shot. The shooting victim was transported to CHI Bergan Mercy in serious condition. At this time the investigation is ongoing.”

The homeowner is identified as 60 year old Renard Lebron and the suspect is 25 year old John McDonald.

David Gilliam is a friend of Lebron and says last Tuesday two people broke into Lebron’s home. Gilliam says Lebron was repeatedly hit with baseball bats and had large bruises and bumps on his left arm from blocking the blows. He says Lebron was able to grab a long screwdriver and fended off one attacker with the weapon and both men took off running.

Gilliam says, “This is real concerning. I told him last night hey, if you think you are in trouble and think somebody might be coming back we will bring a bunch of us over here and see to it nothing happens. I’m just worried now he will be in trouble for shooting somebody. Clearly it was a self-defense deal.”

Police are investigating to see if the two break-ins are related or if there is any other connection between Lebron and the suspects.
