Greenville County woman shoots man who attacked her while she held a baby, deputies say
Christopher Druvon Kennedy in critical condition, faces several charges

    GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. *
An Upstate woman grabbed a gun from a man and shot him after he attacked her while she was holding a baby, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened Sunday on Lakeside Road.

Christopher Druvon Kennedy, 37, is accused of hitting and choking a woman he has a domestic relationship with, Lt. Ryan Flood said.

Flood said the woman was holding a 9-month-old baby at the time of the attack.

Flood said investigators learned that, during the assault, another man stepped in to try to help the woman and Kennedy began attacking him.

During that time the woman found a gun in a piece of Kennedy*s clothing and when Kennedy charged after her, she fired at him, according to Flood.

Flood said investigators believe the shooting was self-defense.

Kennedy was shot at least one time and taken to the hospital where he is in stable but critical condition, Flood said Monday.

Kennedy is charged with first-degree domestic vi0lence, unlawful neglect of a child, third-degree assault and battery, and felon in possession.

HCSO: Devers man is suspect in Hardin County home invasion
    April 28, 2021

A 33-year-old Devers man was reportedly shot by a homeowner during a home invasion around 2 a.m., Wednesday, at a property on the 7700 block of FM 1003 in Kountze in neighboring Hardin County.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld at this time, is hospitalized in Beaumont as a result of the gunshot wounds he suffered during the alleged crime.

*There was at least one white male who attempted to make entry at that address. The homeowner was home and discharged rounds into the actor,* said Chief Deputy Mark Minton, a spokesperson for the Hardin County Sheriff*s Office.

A short time later, the suspect was dropped off in the Hardin County Courthouse parking lot where he was discovered by deputies, Minton said. The deputies administered first aid before he was transported to an emergency care center in Beaumont.

Minton said investigators are now trying to determine who drove the suspect to the courthouse parking lot and if other suspects were involved in the home invasion.

Minton said he is working with Liberty County Sheriff*s Office to determine if a stolen vehicle that was found Wednesday morning outside of Summit Inn in Dayton is connected to the crime. Liberty County sheriff*s deputies arrested one man at the hotel.

An updated article will be posted once new information is available.

Homeowner Shoots At Burglar In High End Dunes Area
    April 28, 2021
    Dunes
Beach Drive is considered one of the most elite neighborhoods in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The street runs alongside the oceanfront from 77th North to 82nd North.

The average oceanfront home price on Beach Drive is well over $1 million.

An investigation is underway in this Dunes area neighborhood after a homeowner opened fire on a burglary suspect Monday morning, according to police.

The Myrtle Beach police department says officers responded around 5:30 a.m. Monday to reports of a burglary at a home on Beach Drive.

The victim told responding officers the suspect, who is listed in the report as a 15-year-old juvenile, was last seen heading southbound on Beach Drive.

According to police, the victim said he fired his revolver-style pistol at the suspect while he was outside.

The victim reported that he did not believe he wounded the suspect. Police said there was no blood trail present to indicate the suspect was shot.

The is an ongoing investigation. Incidents, like this one, create concerns as crime in Myrtle Beach is no longer contained to the downtown areas.

Nampa neighborhood shaken after man breaks into coroner's home
    NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) *

Idaho State Police is investigating a break-in at the home of the Canyon County Coroner.

Neighbors spoke about what they saw. When they heard shouts coming from the street, they looked out their windows to see police surrounding the home of Canyon County Coroner Jennifer Crawford.

Normally her neighborhood is a quiet one, according to the people who live there. So seeing incidents like the one on Tuesday is surprising.

"I think it's odd," said Sam Brown, one of Crawford's neighbors. "This is a really safe neighborhood. A lot of kids walk to school, you see a lot of kids playing out in their front yard. It's odd to me that this would happen here."

    But it did.

Security footage from outside Brown's door shows police cruisers pulling up outside Crawford's home.

Nampa Police say a 25-year-old man broke into the house with a baseball bat, and that shortly afterward someone in the home shot him. The man is recovering at a hospital and according to police, his injuries are not life-threatening.

After the intruder was shot, police asked everyone to come out of the house, resting a gun on the hood of Brown's car while he waited for backup.

And this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

Several weeks ago there was a drive-by shooting on Pleasant Hill Drive. No one was injured, but the frequency of these incidents has Crawford's neighbors relying on one another for comfort.

"I just hope she's safe," Brown said. "You know if she needs anything at all she can always come talk to any of her neighbors. I'm sure she knows that but I just hope that she's safe and her family's safe."

Police are still investigating the incident. Check back here for updates.

Hate Crime': Black Family Scares Off Intruders Who Allegedly Used N-Word by Firing Gun
By Daniel Villarreal On 4/27/21 at 10:33 PM EDT
A Black family in Walled Lake, Michigan shot a gun to scare off three intruders who broke into their home early Monday morning. The intruders allegedly used the n-word while voicing their intention to kill the family. The family's father has alleged that the intrusion was a hate crime.

Police have not yet released the identities of the suspected attackers nor the family targeted in the attack.

The intruders broke into the family's home around 12:30 a.m. local time on Monday morning. Shortly before the intrusion, the family's father left for his overnight work shift in Detroit. He left a mother and her two young sons, ages 9 and 13, alone at home.

The intruders—armed with a knife, a club and three dogs—broke down the house's door. Hearing the noise, the 13-year-old awoke and alerted his 9-year-old brother. The mother then contacted her husband on the phone.

"I can hear everything, them kicking and banging down the door, whatever they were doing," the husband told WDIV-TV. "They were in the house. I can hear the guy saying, 'I'm going to kill you.' The n-word and all that."

Michigan n-word home intruders hate crime arrested
Two white men and one white woman have been arrested in connection with a home break-in that occurred at 12:30 a.m. on Monday. The husband said he told the wife to get the gun. She then fired it as her two sons hid under their beds. The shots missed the intruders and hit the family's truck. The eldest son contacted the police. Other neighbors also contacted the police to report the gunshots.

Immediately, the woman's husband left work. When he returned home, he found police had apprehended two white men and one white woman suspected of the intrusion.

"It was a hate crime," the husband said of the attack. "They knew that we were a Black family. I'm always on my motorcycle." The population of Walled Lake is 85 percent white and 8 percent Black, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Police have not yet identified a motive. It's also unclear whether the break-in is being investigated as an attempted hate crime.

The family's home sustained "extensive property damage" from the break-in, including the children's bedroom window where the mother shot at intruders, according to WJBK.

The family's father told the outlet that he's proud of his wife's heroism during the attempted attack.

"My wife did what she had to do. When you have kids you do what you gotta do," he said. "Me not being there, it was scary."

The man also said that he told sons about the attack and its potentially racial nature. "They know we don't live in a perfect world," he added.

Newsweek contacted the Walled Lake Police Department for comment.

Italy theft: Two suspects killed in jewellery shop robbery
    5 hours ago

The shop's owner has been questioned by carabinieri military police (file photo)
Two people have been killed following a raid on a jewellery shop in Italy, according to local media.

The owner reportedly opened fire after three armed thieves broke into his shop in the village of Grinzane Cavour, in the Piedmont region, on Wednesday.

Two died in the street, while a third suspect was wounded in the leg and later arrested.

The shop owner is now facing an investigation, his lawyer told Italian news agency Ansa.

Stefano Campanello said his 66-year-old client was "heartbroken" by what had happened. He has not been charged but could face charges of manslaughter and using excessive force in self-defence.

    What happened?

Local Mayor Gianfranco Garau, who was in an evening meeting in the nearby town hall during the shooting, told Italian media that events remained unclear.

"I only know that an honest and good family has been targeted," he was quoted as saying.

Mr Garau added that the jeweller had been violently beaten and his wife and daughter tied up in a separate raid in 2015. According to Italian media reports, robbers made away with *300,000 (£260,000, $360,000) in watches and jewellery.

Newspaper Corriere della Sera reports that the shop owner's wife and daughter were inside the shop when the group - armed with a gun and knife - entered.

The third suspect has been questioned by carabinieri military police but has so far not been charged, the newspaper added.

According to Ansa, at least five shots were fired. Emergency workers were unable to save two of the suspected thieves.

What is the law in Italy?

The definition of self-defence was broadened in Italy in 2019.

The change removes the need for proof that an intruder poses an immediate physical threat and instead allows individuals to use self-defence in response to a perceived threat of violence.

According to Italian newspaper Il Giornale, the purpose of the investigation is to determine whether or not the jeweller fired his weapon inside his shop.

Matteo Salvini, the leader of Italy's far-right League party and the man behind the 2019 law, tweeted his support for the jeweller and his family.

"Defence is always legitimate," he wrote.

Around 14% of Italian civilians own guns, according to the Small Arms Survey - a figure lower than in neighbouring countries. All private arms must be registered with the local authorities.

Related reading: Victim identified in Old Lycoming Twp. Thursday night shooting

An autopsy on the victim, Brian M. Miller, and scene reconstruction contributed to law enforcement's decision to not to charge Jeremy Weston, the man they say shot Miller. Weston had a legally registered firearm discovered by officers.

No criminal charges will be filed until the District Attorney*s Office has an opportunity to review the autopsy report.

Officers said Weston called 911 to report the shooting outside the trailer. Weston told officers he shot Miller in self defense.

According to the report, Miller had been involved in a physical altercation with two people in the trailer minutes before he was killed. Records show both people had active Protection from Abuse Orders against Miller.
