Police: Teen shot man at Jupiter Beach in self-defense
Jupiter police say a man came at the teen with a tire iron.
JUPITER — A teenager shot a 34-year-old man Thursday night at Jupiter Beach Park after the older man allegedly attacked the teen with a tire iron, town police say.
Authorities arrested the man who was shot, Tequesta resident Christopher Talabac, on an aggravated assault charge. The 19-year-old, who police did not name, is not facing charges.
Police say the two men had been arguing before Talabac allegedly came at the teen with a tire iron and the teen shot him.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 9 p.m. on the beach. Rescue crews took Talabac to St. Mary’s Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
Talabac was booked early Friday into the Palm Beach County Jail. A judge ordered he remain there in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Palm Beach County court records show that Jupiter police arrested Talabac last year on a disorderly intoxication charge after stumbling in front of traffic on Alternate A1A near Sawfish Bay Park. He has previous drug convictions as well, records show.

Two arrested after man killed, teen hurt in shootout at Cleveland recording studio, police say
By Evan MacDonald, cleveland.comPosted Jul 25, 2019
A man died and a teen was hurt in a shootout early Thursday at a recording studio located within the former Horizon Magazine building in downtown Cleveland, police said.
CLEVELAND Ohio – A 24-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with a deadly shootout at a recording studio in downtown Cleveland, police said.
A 25-year-old man died after he suffered multiple gunshot wounds about 1:30 a.m. at the studio on Rockwell Avenue near East 18th Street, police said. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his name once his family has been notified.
The 14-year-old boy was also shot in the leg during the incident. He was treated at MetroHealth before being taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
The 24-year-old man told Cleveland police officers that he was in the studio early Thursday when roughly five males came into the building with guns. He got into a shootout with them, police said.
Investigators did not offer a motive for the shootout.
The group of males left the building and drove in a gray Ford Escape, which they crashed into a pole at the intersection of East 18th Street and Prospect Avenue.
Witnesses said several people got out of the car and ran away after the crash. Two other people left in a separate car, which took them to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, police said.
Prosecutors will review the case to determine whether the 24-year-old man will be charged in the shootout. He has a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, police said.
Investigators are searching for two other males who may have been involved in the shootout, police said.
The name of the recording studio was not immediately clear Thursday afternoon. The address police provided is the former Horizon Magazine building.

High Point woman shoots, kills man with ax who was accused of assaulting her the night before, police say
HIGH POINT — A man accused of assaulting a woman Friday night was shot and killed at her home early Saturday after attacking her with an ax, police said.
Officers responded about 4:10 a.m. to 400 Hickory Lane on a report of a shooting, police said in a news release. The woman told officers that she shot the man accused of choking and pushing her Friday after he returned to her home Saturday and charged her with an ax.
Police did not identify the woman or the man who was killed.
Officers first responded to the home shortly after 10 p.m. Friday on a report of a woman being assaulted by a man who was possibly intoxicated.
Officers learned the man might have access to a gun so they remained outside the home and called in a tactical response team. They were not able to contact the man inside the home and, after getting a search warrant, entered the home about 2:30 a.m. and found he was not there.
Officers responded to the home again about 4:10 a.m. on the shooting call.
A man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the back yard, police said, adding that his identity would not be released yet because family had not been located and notified.

SURPRISE, AZ — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Surprise on Friday night.
According to a Surprise police spokesperson, officers responded to an altercation between two people near Grand Avenue and Nash Street around 6:30 p.m.
Before officers arrived at the scene, multiple gunshots were reportedly fired.
Police say detectives learned through their investigation that a homeowner in the area, Michael Jaso, had arrived home in his vehicle with his family and found a man standing in their yard. The man, later identified as Nicholas Sagasta, reportedly began aggressively approaching Jaso as he got out of his car.
Police said Jaso kept backing away from Sagasta and even confronted him with a gun that he retrieved from his car, but police say Sagasta continued to pursue. Jaso told the man to stop and leave his property, but according to police, Sagasta continued his aggressive behavior and approached Jaso again.
Officials say this is when Jaso discharged his gun and shot Sagasta multiple times. Sagasta was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
