Police: Teen robber shot by victim, accomplice charged with murder
    Cameron KnightUpdated 10:37 a.m. ET June 28, 2019
A botched robbery this weekend left one teen dead and a second teen charged with murder – all while the robbery victim and police say the shooting was in self defense.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, investigators say two 15-year-old boys tried to rob an unidentified victim in the 3600 block of Reading Road.

The victim fired at the teens, striking 15-year-old Jordan Lara. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The actual shooter, the victim of the robbery, is not facing any charges. However, the surviving teen is.

He appeared in court Friday on aggravated robbery and murder charges. He was calm and often looked back at his mother during his appearance before Magistrate Mary Schulcz.

His mother cried. She quietly said, "I know," to her son as he shook his head "no" when the murder charge was being discussed.

Prosecutors said the teen also faced a probation violation for getting in trouble and skipping three days of school. He was on probation due to a prior charge of receiving stolen property, officials said.

Schulcz ruled that the teen would be held in juvenile detention at least until his next hearing before Judge John Williams on July 10.

Ohio law allows for people involved in crimes that result in any deaths to be charged with murder, even if the defendant did not directly kill the victim. For example, if a person is killed during a bank robbery, the getaway driver can be charged with murder.

Police have not revealed the identity of the person who shot Jordan. No charges have been filed against that individual.

Due to his age, the teen's case is now in Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Prosecutors can attempt to try him as an adult, but it's not yet clear if they will.

The Enquirer is not naming the accused teen due to his age.

We will see how this one goes

    https://www.newsandtribune.com/news/...7bb134b0b.html

INDIANAPOLIS — Clark County Judge Drew Adams, who was one of two local judges shot following an altercation in Indianapolis, has been charged with multiple counts of battery.

According to online court records, Adams is charged with two level 6 felony counts of battery with moderate bodily injury, two class A misdemeanor counts of battery resulting in injury, two class B misdemeanor counts of battery and a class B misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry planned a press conference Friday afternoon in Indianapolis regarding the shooting of Adams and fellow Clark County Judge Brad Jacobs.

They were shot following an altercation with two men in the parking lot of a White Castle on South Street in downtown Indianapolis on May 1. Two suspects were previously arrested in relation to the shooting, but ultimately were not charged.

The judges were among more than 100 from across the state in Indianapolis on that day for a judicial conference hosted by the Indiana Supreme Court Office of Court Services.

Clark County Magistrate William Dawkins and Crawford County Judge Sabrina Bell were with Jacobs and Adams the night of the shooting. The four went to White Castle around 3:20 a.m., and Dawkins went inside. Video surveillance shows that Jacobs, Adams and Bell remained outside in the parking lot and were there when a car pulled up with two men who were later arrested as suspects in the shooting.

Police have released only a portion of the surveillance and have said little about what led to the altercation.

INVESTIGATORS IN GREENE COUNTY SAY DEATH INVESTIGATION INVOLVING DUSTIN ABEL WAS IN SELF-DEFENSE

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - We have an update on a death investigation out of Greene County.

According to the Greene County Prosecutor, self-defense led to the death of 32-year-old Dustin Abel.

It happened at a home in Owensburg, Indiana on April 30.

According to officials, Stanley Jacob called 9-1-1 and said his niece, Julia Sowders shot Abel.

Abel was pronounced dead on the scene, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say Jacob and Sowders remained on the scene and fully cooperated with investigators.

Investigators say Sowders made previous complaints against Abel's behavior toward her.

The two recently ended a relationship.

Abel reportedly was physically violent with her before the break-up.

He was under investigation for a number of different offenses.

On the morning Abel was shot, he reportedly showed up uninvited to Sowders' home.

According to the report, Abel pushed his way past Jacob to enter the home, when Sowders pointed a loaded 12 gauge shotgun at Abel and told him repeatedly he wasn't coming inside.

Abel reportedly started acting erratically, waving his arms and yelling as he tried to enter the house.

Investigators say Sowders fired one round for the shotgun, hitting Abel, killing him.

A toxicology report shows Abel had marijuana and meth in his system.

After wrapping up the investigation, investigators determined Sowders was justified in shooting Abel, in order to protect herself from serious bodily injury...and to prevent his unlawful entry into her home.

Info is sparse, but it sound like the woman in the car was after someone in the house since she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and breaking and entering to terrorize.

    https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/pe...-say/962106844

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A woman was shot Thursday afternoon when she drove through the front door of a home built by Habitat for Humanity in the Hidden Valley neighborhood.

The new homeowner had only lived there for less than a month when she fired shots at the driver, Taneisha Gilmore.

Prior to the shooting, the homeowner’s friend had gotten into a violent fight with an ex-partner, sources told Channel 9.

The friend then went to the home on Spring Garden Lane.

The homeowner and her friend were inside the home when Gilmore drove toward the front of the house, knocking out the front door.

That’s when the homeowner, who was protecting herself, shot Gilmore behind the wheel, sources said.

    A neighbor heard the gunfire.

“Not knowing what happened, that was scary,” the neighbor said. “It’s a beautiful house and I’ve seen some beautiful people out there.”

The homeowner told Channel 9 she does not know Gilmore and didn’t say anything else.

Gilmore faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon and breaking and entering to terrorize.

Gilmore was taken to Atrium-CMC with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Thief caught making chocolate milk held at gunpoint by 81-year-old veteran

James Crum sleeps with a gun under his pillow because he feared a home break-in was a matter of time, but he never expected to catch a thief using his Hershey's syrup.

    Andrew Colegrove

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An army veteran is grateful he keeps his gun close by where he sleeps and was stunned by what he caught a thief doing in his house.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, James Crum woke up to noise coming from his kitchen.

"I thought at first it was a coon or opossum," he said.

Somebody had cut through his porch screen door at his home just off Route 52 in South Point.

The 81-year-old grabbed his gun from under his pillow.

He walked into the kitchen and was in disbelief when he saw what the home invader was doing.

"He was laying on the floor mixing chocolate syrup with milk," Crum said.

Crum held the suspect, Anthony Giammarco, at gunpoint. Crum called 911 and a deputy showed up about 5 minutes later and arrested the suspect.

"I put the gun to the back of his head and told him 'If you move, it may be your last one.' He said 'Uh huh,' and he just kept mixing the milk with the chocolate."

The deputy says the suspect appeared to be under the influence and claimed Mr. Crum was his grandpa, but Crum says he'd never seen him before.

Crum says his kitchen had been ransacked.

"I think he tinkled while he was lying there too because there was a wet spot there," Crum said.

Crum says with the drug problem being so bad, he was afraid a break-in was a matter of time.

"I don't want them in my place," he said.

Crum says he's cleaned up the mess left behind on his carpet, but he hasn't gotten around to getting new milk yet.

According to the criminal complaint, the deputy found wet clothes, a utility belt, and a large straight blade fighting style knife outside the side door on the screened porch.

Giammarco is charged with theft, vandalism, possessing criminal tools and burglary. He is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Lawrence County Jail and is due in court Monday.

Police Identify Man Shot During Home Invasion, Accomplice Remains At-Large
SAN ANGELO, TX — He was first seen by police, lying dead, inside the doorway of an upstairs apartment at the Sedona Ranch, a middle class apartment community on San Angelo's southwest side.

Prior to arriving, police dispatch received a distress call from someone there, fearful that a prowler was attempting to break in their apartment. Shortly afterwards, more 9-1-1 calls reached San Angelo dispatch reporting multiple gunshots heard.

Police identified the dead man as 20-year-old Jadyn Phillips of San Angelo. An autopsy has been ordered.

Police revealed that Phillips and an accomplice, another man, had forced entry into the apartment. There to meet them was a 20-year-old male resident of that apartment. The resident fired several shots at the intruders in self defense. That is when Phillips was struck and killed by bullets. The other suspect, so far unnamed by police, fled the scene before police arrived.

The shooting happened just before midnight Friday night. The 20-year-old resident was not injured. However, police said the resident was an acquaintance of Phillips and police believe robbery was the motive for the break-in.

Early Saturday morning, police deployed at least one K9 init to search for the fleeing accomplice who remains at-large.

Police are seeking tips that will help them in the investigation. If you have any information about the second suspect’s name or whereabouts, please contact Detective Josh Shultz at (325) 657-4473. To remain anonymous, tip online or by text: text TIP SAPD to 888777 and follow the prompts.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Susquehanna Township father says he had no choice but to shoot and kill a dog to stop its vicious attack on his 4-year-old daughter.

Wynton Williams was walking with his wife and daughter Olivia in the High Pointe Club Apartments on Thursday when the loose dog growled and then lunged at the girl, grabbed her by the neck, and dragged her into a mulch bed.

“Me and my wife started to kick and punch the dog to try to get him to release, but he wouldn’t release,” Williams said. “He took her further into the mulch bed, at which point I grabbed his upper jaw, and as I grabbed his jaw, he released from my daughter’s neck.”

Williams desperately wrested the dog, screaming for help. A friend handed him a gun and he fired one shot.

“I got up. The dog kept moving. I put another shot in. As I thought it was over, the dog went to lunge again and I put two more shots. I put one in his chest and one in his head,” Williams said.

Williams and his wife rushed their daughter to a hospital. Deep wounds to her neck required 30 to 40 stitches.

“Her tissue and muscle separated a little bit and the skin separated, and they were able to sew it back up, and they stretched the skin out so she doesn’t need a skin graft or anything like that,” Williams said.

Police said they have identified the owner of the dog, which had been vaccinated. The investigation is ongoing.
