Kendall County Woman Shoots San Antonio Woman Trying To Break Into Her Home

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A San Antonio woman was shot by a Kendall County homeowner when she tried to break into her house Wednesday afternoon.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office said the homeowners were in the living room of their house on Kendall Parkway at around 2 p.m. Wednesday when they heard a knock on the door. The knocking became louder and then there were continual rings of the doorbell.

A woman in the house went to the door and cracked it open. The woman outside — who she didn’t know — forced her way into the house.

The two argued and then fought before the homeowner grabbed her pistol and shot at the intruder — later identified as Fabiola Martinez — six times and the suspect fled.

With the help of Boerne police K9s and a San Antonio police helicopter, Fair Oaks Ranch police officers were able to find Martinez and arrest her without issue.

She was taken to an area hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to her ear.

Martinez has been charged with Burglary of Habitation.

Police: Walker County homeowner shoots intruder

A Rising Fawn man Thursday morning, June 6, shot a home intruder with a criminal history, police said.

According to a news release from Sheriff Steve Wilson, the suspect, 31-year-old Christopher Lynn Roden, was shot in the shoulder by homeowner James Ridley after making it halfway into one of Ridley's home windows.

The suspect was in pursuit of his ex-girlfriend, Renie Coulter, who had sought safety from him by fleeing her home and running to Ridley, her neighbor's house, the press release said.

Ridley fired at the suspect with a .22-caliber rifle when Roden attempted to break in and crawl through a window in Ridley's home. The suspect sustained a shoulder injury and was transported to a hospital by paramedics. He was conscious and alert at the time of transport, according to the sheriff's office.

No charges have been filed against Ridley for firing at the suspect, according to the sheriff.

Charges are pending against Roden, who was taken for treatment for his injuries. He is expected to recover.

According to an executive assistant with the sheriff's office, the type of charges being faced by Roden -- and exact date they will be filed -- remained unknown as of early Friday afternoon.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) database, Roden has a criminal history in Walker County that includes arrests as early as 2004, which include burglary, theft by taking, theft of motor vehicle or part, and entering a vehicle. His time served for those crimes ended in December 2015 at Wilcox State Prison.

In February the Walker County Messenger reported Roden was arrested for disorderly conduct. News Channel 9 reports that Roden has been arrested four times this year.

Cougar Shot, Killed by Homeowner After Report of a Cougar Killing Two Goats Owned by Nuns

An Oregon homeowner shot and killed a cougar that wildlife officials were hunting for after the creature reportedly killed two goats that were owned by nuns.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials told KPTV that the cougar was shot dead on June 6 in the Columbia River Gorge, the same day Angel’s Rest Trail was closed after several reported cougar sightings and one day after a cougar killed the goats near the trailhead.

The animals were owned by nuns at Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist.

The cougar also went into a house in the area on Tuesday, according to KGW. The cougar “showed little fear” of humans, deputies reported.

Wildlife officials sprung a trap using one of the dead goats and the homeowner saw the cougar in the trap late Thursday. The person then shot the cougar.

The nuns had given the homeowner permission to kill the cougar if it returned to their land, reported KPTV.

Officials believe the cougar that was killed is the same one that killed the goats and also said they wouldn’t press charges against the homeowner because the cougar attacked livestock before being killed.

Rick Swart, an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesman, told The Oregonian that the bite marks on the goat were a close match to the teeth of the cougar that was killed.

Biologists said the cougar was a 2-year-old female.

People who live in the area said they were not surprised that the goats were attacked.

“I was always surprised they haven’t been attacked before, so it’s really no surprise at all,” Matt Sund, referring to livestock in the area, told KGW.

Angel’s Rest Trail re-opened on Friday.

Man reportedly flashes gun outside Safeway, then gets shot
Mill Creek police say the confrontation may have begun as a complaint about driving.

MILL CREEK — An argument about driving may have led to a shooting in a Safeway parking lot in Mill Creek late Thursday night, police say.

A 24-year-old man told Mill Creek police that he had just parked when someone confronted him, apparently mad about his driving. Except he wasn’t sure what he had done wrong.

The Mill Creek man went inside the store at 16304 Bothell-Everett Highway to grab some food. On his way back to his car, the same man, 60, from Bothell, stopped him again.

This time, the older man allegedly displayed a gun. On security footage, he could be seen pointing his arm at the other man, Mill Creek Police Deputy Chief Scott Eastman said.

However, Eastman said, “it’s difficult to tell if there’s anything in his hand.”

The younger man fired his own gun. Around 11:45 p.m., he called 911, reporting the shooting.

Security camera video released by Mill Creek police shows the moments before a shooting in the parking lot of a Safeway store in Mill Creek late Thursday night.

Injured, the older man got inside his car, where officers later found a gun.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was in critical condition in the intensive care unit Friday afternoon, Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg wrote in an email.

No one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing, Eastman said.

Eastman said the younger man had a concealed weapons permit. He works as a security guard, but not for Safeway, and he wasn’t on the job Thursday night. He has been cooperating with the investigation, Eastman said.

Motorist fights back against armed attacker during South Whitehall road rage incident, police say
    Manuel Gamiz Jr.

An Allentown man chased a car Wednesday afternoon, running red lights before cornering the driver of the other car at a South Whitehall Township shopping center where he slashed at him with a large knife and threatened to kill him, police said.

An Allentown teen drove after another car Wednesday afternoon, running red lights before cornering the driver of the other car at a South Whitehall Township shopping center, where he slashed at the driver with a large knife and threatened to kill him, police said.

The road rage incident ended when the 47-year-old man punched Matthew J. Gavilanes, 18, and wrestled him to the ground, according to court records.

Gavilanes, of the 2400 block of South Fifth Street, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and driving with a suspended license. He was arraigned by District Judge Rashid Santiago and was sent to Lehigh County Jail under $25,000 bail.

Officers were initially dispatched around 1 p.m. by employees of a salon in the shopping center in the 3000 block of West Tilghman Street about a fight in progress with one of the men wielding a knife.

Police arrived to find Gavilanes on the ground, and a witness holding him at gunpoint, police said. South Whitehall Chief Glen Dorney described the witness as a “good Samaritan that was lawfully carrying a firearm [and] was able to hold them at gunpoint until police arrived.”

The older man told police Gavilanes began chasing him at 24th and Hamilton streets in Allentown, running through red lights until they got to the salon, court records show.

In the parking lot, Gavilanes grabbed a knife and swung it at the man’s abdomen while threatening to kill him, police said. The man fought back and overpowered Gavilanes.

Detectives watched surveillance footage that backed up the man’s story. The video showed Gavilanes arguing with the man and then grabbing the knife from the trunk of his car, police said.

The witness told police that after the man took Gavilanes to the ground, Gavilanes continued trying to stab the man and continued making threats, police said.

Court documents do not say what initiated the road rage incident.

TWRA: Carter County man shoots bear after it reportedly charged him
CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) - Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials are investigating a reported bear encounter from early Saturday morning in Carter County.

TWRA Spokesperson Matt Cameron said the incident happened off Blevins Road in Roan Mountain around 12:30 a.m.

Cameron said the homeowner heard a noise outside of his house and went to investigate while carrying a 12-gauge shotgun.

When he stepped outside, a bear appeared nearby. The homeowner reportedly fired one shot in the air and a second shot in the bear's direction to try and scare it away.

As the bear left, a second bear appeared from behind some shrubs and ran in the homeowner's direction, Cameron said.

The homeowner said he then fired a shot at the bear and believes he hit it. The bear then ran off.

A TWRA wildlife officer and the homeowner each searched the area and could not find the bear.
