Mother shoots man in head after he attempts to steal her car with toddlers inside

Around 10 p.m. on July 4, a woman and her two toddlers were at a gas station when a man tried to steal her car with her kids inside.

This happened at the Shell station on the 200 block of West Camp Wisdom road. Police say the carjacker was unknown to the woman and started to drive away.

Officers say the mom quickly jumped into the car and asked to suspect to stop. When he refused, she pulled a gun from her glove compartment and shot the suspect in the head.

Police say the car crashed into a telephone pole and the suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

No other details are available at this time, no word on charges or the condition of the suspect.

Man shot in Roanoke Rapids break-in linked to string of sex assaults
    Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
    Posted 47 minutes ago

    — A man wounded during a May break-in at a Roanoke Rapids home has been charged with breaking into several other homes since December and sexually assaulting some of the residents, police said Thursday.

Wade Carter, 54, of Roanoke Rapids, now faces four counts of burglary, three counts of kidnapping, two counts each of first-degree rape and common law robbery and one count each of attempted first-degree rape, assault causing serious bodily injury, attempted burglary, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to property.

Women in two cases said they were awakened to find a man standing over them, and a third woman reported hearing footsteps in her house before a man burst into her bedroom. Two of the women were sexually assaulted, and the third was hit in the face, police said.

The incidents occurred in December, April and May on Taylor Street, Monroe Street and Jackson Street in Roanoke Rapids.

On May 24, when someone broke into a home in the 500 block of Raleigh Street, the homeowner fired three shots at the intruder, who ran out the back door. Someone had tried to break into the house five months earlier, police said.

Carter was later arrested at a local hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound.

Man shot during alleged Jackson home invasion
    July 5, 2018 Mallory Cooke
JACKSON, Tenn. — A shooting at an apartment complex in east Jackson sent one person to the hospital Thursday, according to Jackson police. Investigators said the man who was shot is accused of breaking into an apartment.

Jackson police said the shooting happened around 4:45 a.m. Thursday at East Pointe Apartments.

“Any shooting like that is not good at all,” Jackson City Councilman Johnny Dodd said. “We hate that it happened.”

Dodd represents east Jackson. “We do have cameras over here, which that’s a blessing,” he said.

Jackson police said a 34-year-old Lexington man kicked in the door at one of the apartments. Officers said a person inside then shot the suspect. Police said the suspect ignored warnings not to come inside the apartment.

Investigators said the suspect was seriously injured and went to a hospital in Memphis. His condition is unknown at this time.

Despite this shooting, Dodd said violent crime across the city is down about 15 percent. “I think the community is safe,” he said. “I think our city is safer than it’s been in years.”

Jackson police said the resident who shot the suspect is cooperating with investigators.

Police said this was not a random act. Officers said they believe the suspect knows the people who live at the apartment.

“We don’t want things like this happening in our city, but there’s no way you can stop it if someone’s got their mind made up to do things like this,” Dodd said.

The shooting is still under investigation.

Jackson police said so far no charges have been filed. Officers said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.

Security guard shoots man after allegedly being beaten at apartment complex in southwest Houston | abc13.com
    HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Authorities say a security guard opened fire on a group of men who attacked him after they refused to leave the basketball court at an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

This happened around 8:50 p.m. Thursday on Dunvale near Richmond.

According to police, the four men, who do not live at the complex, were repeatedly told to leave several times before for trespassing.

In the incident this time, the guard went up to the group and told them to leave. Witnesses say that's when the men beat him.

The guard allegedly pulled out his gun and fired. One of the men was shot. He's recovering in the hospital from a graze wound.

A second man in the group stayed behind to talk to officers. The other two ran away.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the guard or the group.

Woman fatally shoots ex-boyfriend who was breaking into her house, police say

A 52-year-old man was fatally shot early Friday after he reportedly tried to break into a home that was occupied by his ex-girlfriend, Tulsa police said.

Just before 3 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of East 50th Place to investigate a 911 call placed by a woman who claimed she shot her ex-boyfriend, said Tulsa Police Cpl. Chris Butterfield.

The woman told detectives she was at the home with her current boyfriend when they heard loud banging on the back door. She grabbed a pistol and allegedly shot the man after he forced his way inside the residence, Butterfield said.

He made it from the back door to the front entryway, where police found him lying with a gunshot wound on his upper left side.

The man, whose name has not been released, was struck once and later pronounced dead at the scene, Butterfield said.

"The caller stated she did not know it was her ex-boyfriend at first, thinking it was a burglar," he said.

Police said the man had a history of stalking and was described as "very obsessive" by the woman.

Detectives transported the woman to police headquarters for questioning, though it is believed she will not be charged, according to police.

Police: Richmond homeowner shoots intruder several times
    Julianne Herrera
RICHMOND (KRON) - Police believe a Richmond homeowner was acting out of self-defense when an alleged robber entered his family's house early Friday morning.

Around 12:14 a.m. police responded to a call of a home-invasion robbery in the 3100 block of Alta Mira Dr., according to Richmond Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found the homeowner and his family.

Police learned the 47-year-old suspect from Richmond tried breaking into two other houses before forcing his way into this home.

The suspect allegedly broke a window to get inside.

"The homeowner had no choice but to defend his family and himself from the suspect," police said.

The homeowner allegedly shot the suspect multiple times. Now the suspect is in a trauma center where he is still alive, police said.

"The homeowner has been extremely cooperative with detectives and so have all the occupants of the residence," police said. "At this time, this unfortunate incident seems to be a clear case of self defense on the part of the homeowner as a victim of a home-invasion robbery."

MIDDLETOWN — A woman walked into her Middletown residence Friday morning and found a man in a bed with a hatchet and his pants down, according to police.

Michael Robert McClain, 39, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, felonious assault and public indecency.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Woodlawn Avenue on a report of a burglary. An investigation revealed a man entered the house and was lying in bed “with his pants down” with his genitals in his right hand and a hatchet in his left, according to the police report.

The woman called for her husband to get the man out of the house. The homeowner then attempted to wake up the man to get him out of his house.

Because he was in fear for his life, the homeowner struck the man in the head with his handgun and a fight began, according to the report.

“Tim fought the defendant out of the bedroom, through the kitchen, and outside the house,” the police report states.

The homeowner chased McClain out of the house, and when McClain took “an offensive stance” and came at the homeowner, he fired one shot into the ground.

The suspect fled behind a rear detached garage and came back toward the residence. The homeowner then fired a shot into the ground, and the man ran away.

Police found McClain on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Young Street, bleeding from the head.

McClain was treated at a local hospital then booked into the Middletown Jail on charges. Bond was set at $450,000. His next court appearance is July 13, according to the Middletown Municipal Court.
