Police: Man Killed by Escort in Self-Defense May Have Been Serial Killer

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...serial-killer/
On July 25, an escort in Charleston, West Virginia, shot and killed Neal Falls, a man she met via a website and whom she claims was determined to kill her from the moment she answered the door. Police now believe the man may be linked to as many as six deaths in the last 14 months.
According to CBS 46, the unnamed woman opened the door and was allegedly attacked by Falls. The woman said, “I knew he was there to kill me. I could tell that he had already done something because he said that he was going to prison for a long and that’s when I knew that he was going to kill me.”

The escort struggled against Falls, who laid down his gun to fight off the escort’s defensive attempts as he allegedly tried to strangle her. She said, “When he strangled me, he just wouldn’t let me get any air and so I grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands, I shot him. I just grabbed the gun and shot behind me,” she said.

Based on what the escort says, police have come to believe this was not the first time Falls allegedly tried to kill someone. The woman confirmed this by saying, “You could tell he was saying the exact same thing, he had it down pat. He was saying, ‘You’re going to be quiet, I’m gonna call the orders.’ He was saying everything, you could tell he was comfortable with what he was saying.”

When Falls pulled up to meet the escort, he was driving a “Subaru from Oregon” in which there was a “kill kit made up of a shovel, knives, a bulletproof vest, bleach, trashbags, sledgehammers and axes.” Because of these things, police are “actively trying to connect Falls to other unsolved murders across the country.”

In particular, they think Falls may be connected to “six Ohio women found dead or reported missing in the past 14 months.”

Charges filed in robbery of pizza shop where customer shot alleged gunman

Charges were filed Tuesday against three people allegedly involved in a botched holdup of a pizza shop in Levittown that left a fourth alleged robber dead after a customer fatally shot him.

Authorities said that Justin Alan Rose, 22, his mother Robin Lynn Soto, 52, and Rose's girlfriend, Chasidy Demi Ramos, 25, all face charges in the Nov. 14 attempted robbery of Porfirio’s Pizza and Pasta II on Veterans Highway.

Rose's 24-year-old brother, Shawn Rose, was shot and killed by a customer who authorities credit for thwarting the attempted robbery. The customer was pistol-whipped and threatened by Shawn Rose and won't face charges as he acted in self-defense, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said.

Soto and Ramos allegedly entered the store shortly before the incident to determine how many people were inside, observing that there were only two employees and the customer.

Soto asked the co-owner what time the shop closed before both women left and gave the Rose brothers that information, according to authorities.

Justin Rose was shot twice by the armed customer in the ensuing robbery attempt. He taken to a hospital for treatment.

When Soto and Ramos went to the Middletown Township Police Department hours after the attempted crime to check on the condition of the Rose brothers, the Porfirio's co-owner identified them as the women who came in just before the incident, prosecutors said.

Both women have been charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and were arraigned on $2 million bail Tuesday evening.

I posted a story about this in the thread a couple of days ago. It's about the Georgia felons captured by the home owner. I am posting this because it gives a bit of the home owners perspective and what happened.

Tennessee man's confrontation with Georgia fugitives sparks talk about gun ownership

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...hip/406693001/

Hale said the first thing he had done after hearing the fugitives might be in the area was load every gun in his house. When he saw the two men cross a fence 300 yards from his back door, he called 911.
After choosing between barricading himself and his family in his home or leaving, Hale headed for the driveway.

He had one gun on him as he began to drive away from his home.
Second Amendment advocates seized on the incident as an example of why responsible gun ownership is important.

Dubose and Rowe surrendered without Hale needing to draw his weapon, and police arrived three minutes later to arrest them.
"We ended up with the best scenario compared to every other family that was affected by this," Hale said.
    Christiana residents lauded Hale's courage.
"When you mess around out here in the county, most of us here have carry permits and carry (weapons),” Holly Morelock said. “And it’s our job to protect our families and our homes.

“They did what they had to do to protect everybody else around.”
Bedford County resident Allison Smart said the incident is an example of "one of the reasons we need to be able to keep our guns.”

John Harris, executive director of the Tennessee Firearms Association, said Hale deserves credit for both being armed and ready to act and for showing restraint.
Harris called Hale a hero "for helping stop potentially fleeing murderous felons. So the publicity is he's done a great thing. He used restraint. He didn’t just start a gunfight.
"And from all that is being presented, (he) did what good citizens do."

Even if a homeowner does not shoot, brandishing a firearm to defend your property is murky legal territory, experts said. Nashville criminal defense attorney Ben Raybin said the key question is whether a person has a "reasonable perception" that they are in danger.

"You absolutely have a right to self defense in Tennessee to use a reasonable amount of force to defend yourself from a reasonable fear of bodily harm," Raybin said. "Just because someone is on your property does not create a reasonable belief that you are in danger."
But Raybin said based on the details of the confrontation, Hale acted appropriately by not firing his weapon.

The fugitives, after firing at deputies a short time earlier, laid face down on Hale's driveway without incident when they surrendered.
“So in this case, (Hale was) certainly wise to not actually shoot the people because he probably correctly perceived it was not necessary to actually fire,” Raybin said. “But from what I’ve seen (Hale) would have been in a situation to think that at least it was necessary to display his firearm.”

Two arrested in connection to fatal Lincolnton shootout

LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) - Two people were arrested Monday in connection to a shootout that left one man dead in northeast Lincolnton in early May.

Terry Lamont Moore, 43, is charged with four felony counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, five felony counts of attempted murder, and two felony counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property. Vickie Asbury Currence, 52, is charged with five felony counts of aiding and abetting attempted murder and four counts of aiding and abetting robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. on May 6, near a home in the 2600 block of Painter Lane. The sheriff's office said a shootout occurred involving several people.

Deputies said a man, later identified as 51-year-old Marion Palmer Yarborough, was found dead in the front yard of the home.

According to officials, two men entered the house trying to sell firearms. Shortly after, an argument began and the two men put a person in the home on the floor at gunpoint.

That's when deputies say a woman came out of a back bedroom and fired her gun at the men.

A man and a woman fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said the men were trying to sell stolen guns from a location in Gastonia.

Family members of a man who lives in the home told WBTV that the man killed was allegedly trying to rob them. Deputies have not confirmed this.

Detectives will not file charges against the shooter, saying this was self-defense.

Man fatally shoots alleged robber in Gresham

    http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/crime/260789663-story

A man shot and killed the person who wounded him during an attempted robbery Monday night in the South Side Gresham neighborhood, according to police.

A 39-year-old man was in the 8300 block of South Elizabeth at 8:15 p.m. when he was approached by Dana Matthews, 18, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Matthews shot the older man in the abdomen, but the older man returned fire, striking the alleged robber twice in the legs and twice in the neck, police said.

Matthews, who lived in the Woodlawn neighborhood, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m., police and the medical examiner’s office said.

The older man was also taken to Christ, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

Area South detectives are waiting to interview the alleged victim, police said.

No charges expected after Springfield man shot intruder in December, police say
    http://www.news-leader.com/story/new...say/400884001/

Authorities say they will not be pursuing criminal charges against a Springfield man who shot a possible intruder.
Lisa Cox, spokeswoman for the Springfield Police Department, said detectives do not suspect Chad Faught committed any criminal activity when he shot a man at his home near Fremont Avenue and Bennett Street on Dec. 16.

Cox said police submitted a case to prosecutors asking that the man who was shot, Logan Crain, be charged with burglary. Prosecutors are reviewing that case.
Police initially described Crain's injuries as "critical," but he survived the shooting.

Missouri law allows property owners or renters to use lethal force at their home in self-defense. Faught's attorney Scott Pierson said that's what happened in this case.
Pierson said Springfield police did a "phenomenal job" investigating the case and he believes his client acted appropriately.

    Philadelphia from March

    http://6abc.com/news/police-man-65-s...llage/1226676/
Police: Man, 65, shoots attacking duo in Queen Village

QUEEN VILLAGE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a man who opened fire on a city street was trying to defend his own life.

The unidentified man shot two men - one in the stomach, the other in the shoulder - and he told police it was those men who started the altercation that led up to the shooting.

The incident happened Tuesday night after some kind of altercation on the 700 block of South Second Street in Philadelphia's Queen Village section.

The 65-year-old resident has a valid permit to carry a weapon, and he used his .45 caliber when he and his wife were attacked.

Police are calling the shooting self defense.

On Wednesday, neighbors in Queen Village were talking about what unfolded. A well-known longtime resident they know as "Sal" defended himself and his wife by firing his gun at two men attacking the couple.

"A lot of commotion, a lot of commotion. From what we heard, 'Old Man Sal' - we kind of know him from the neighborhood," said Anthony Conte. "Heard there was a little bit of a ruckus and he pulled out a gun and shot a couple of people."

"You're walking down the street. You shouldn't be attacked for no reason," said Ariel McArdle.

It was just after 8:30 p.m. when the couple was walking home from work. They told police two men passed them. One of those men said to the husband, "What are you looking at?" then punched him, threw him to the ground and continued assaulting him.

Then they turned their attention to the wife, in her 50s, punching and knocking her down as well.

Surveillance video shows the two men who were shot slowly making their way across Bainbridge Street at 2nd.

In the video, a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach sits down outside a bar. His friend, 21 years old, who is holding his neck and shoulder area where he was shot, stands as people arrive to help.

Soon after, police can be seen arriving and taking the men to the hospital.

"I think the moral of the story is you just never know who's packing heat," said Conte. " 'Old man Sal' was packing so you gotta watch out. And it's a shame it went down. I hope those kids are OK."

The couple's attorney said they tried to get away, but the two men kept coming after them.

"They attack him. They attacked his wife. He begged to stop. Him and his wife pulled away. They kept on coming," said Kenneth Young. "He explained he has a firearm. They said they don't care. They punched him in the face."

The couple was also treated for injuries. Police and the attorney said the husband suffered serious wounds to his eye and face.

"This was a matter of life or death. If he didn't do what he did, and he didn't have the training to do it. I think we would be at a funeral right now. It's that bad," Young said.

Young explains his clients have lived in the neighborhood for 40 years.

"He's extremely shaken, him and his wife. They've been here for so many years, but this could the final straw for them," said Young.

The district attorney will now decide if anyone should be charged, including the two young men who are hospitalized in stable condition.

Police: Masked robber shot during attempted robbery
    http://www.publicopiniononline.com/s...macy/86156268/

WAYNESBORO - Police say a pharmacy employee shot and wounded an armed, masked robber Monday after the robber became aggressive and violent in Antietam Pharmacy, 730 S. Potomac St.

Waynesboro Police Chief Jim Sourbier said on Tuesday that Antietam Pharmacy employees showed composure and restraint during the 5:15 p.m. armed robbery when a man wearing a ski mask entered the store. He brandished a handgun and demanded money. Sourber added the man also attacked pharmacy employees and threatened their lives.

The armed man became further enraged when the money from the register did not amount to his expectations, Sourbier said. He became so hostile, aggressive and violent that an employee feared for the safety of the employees in the store.

One pharmacy employee then drew his concealed, legally owned handgun and fired four rounds, Sourbier said.

The would-be robber suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Sourbier said. He was taken to Waynesboro Hospital, then was airlifted to York Hospital for trauma. On Tuesday, the man remained hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
    Nobody else was injured.

"Antietam Pharmacy has been the subject of armed robbery before," Sourbier said. "They know the drill. They know how to behave. I know these folks."
The robber had driven himself to the pharmacy and had no accomplice, he said.

Sourbier declined to identify the robber, but said charges are pending against the robber as the department's investigation continues.
Shots have been fired in four incidents in Waynesboro this year. This is the first connected to an armed robbery, and the first where someone was injured. The three others were connected with fights.

I’m a member of Congress and I’m going to start carrying a gun
    http://www.denverpost.com/2017/06/20...arrying-a-gun/

Not a self defense example, but fits into the thread well. We all know about the attempt on the congressmen's life last week and how if there had not been people with guns there it would have been a much worse slaughter. This is person who was not an anti, but had it reinforced that a person is their own first line of defense in a bad situation. Some that many of use have realized for years.

Last Wednesday morning turned tragic when a gunman opened fire at a practice in Alexandria, Va., for the annual congressional charity baseball event. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., two U.S. Capitol Police special agents, one staff member and one former staff member were wounded in a despicable attack that sent other members of Congress running for cover. We’ll continue debating what caused a deranged individual to commit this horrible act, but the sad fact is that whether it is by bomb, vehicle, knife or gun, America and the world are witnessing horrific carnage.

Here’s what’s not up for debate: From now on, I’ll be exercising my Second Amendment right to carry a firearm as I travel my district.

Like the shooting six years ago that wounded former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, for members of Congress, including me, Wednesday hit particularly close to home. Not only because of reports that the shooter was politically motivated, but because of the way members of Congress conduct ourselves here in Washington and in our home communities.

Yes, the public exposure that comes with the job is something we willingly signed up for. And yes, being elected to represent our neighbors in the nation’s highest legislative body is a singular honor. My colleagues and I don’t have the same expectation of privacy that most Americans do. We understand that we are accountable to our constituents, and we welcome respectful, civil criticism. But all of us — including our families, our staffs and their families — expect and deserve to be safe from harm. After what we saw last week, it’s clear we need to do more to make sure that we’re protected.

When I hear concerns from loved ones, friends and constituents fearing for our safety, my instinct isn’t just to rely on law enforcement. Capitol Police officers were heroes last week — their bravery and quick thinking probably saved the lives of Scalise and my other colleagues — but self-defense is my responsibility, too.

As Americans in my district and across the country know well, responsible, legal gun owners have every right to protect themselves, and that applies to members of Congress as well. I’ve worked to make sure these core values, preserved in the Constitution, are upheld. For my own protection, and for the protection of those around me, I’m putting these values into practice. Now, more than ever, I truly believe that the best place to be, during a terrible episode like the one in Alexandria, is next to a good guy with a gun. The good guys this time were the officers who likely prevented a massacre.

But they were there because Scalise is part of congressional leadership and is always assigned a security detail. Rank-and-file senators, representatives and staff members typically don’t have this layer of protection. It might be time to think about changing that, but my sense is that most members of Congress don’t want this kind of protection. Not only would providing security for all 535 of us be a tremendous undertaking, it would limit members’ freedom and interaction with our constituents. If our democracy is going to work, elected officials have to be able to travel in our communities, whether we’re going to official events or living our everyday lives, going to the supermarket, post office or hardware store. That’s why I plan to take responsibility for my safety, and the safety of those around me. My father taught me responsible gun ownership. For years, I’ve had a concealed-carry permit in New York state. When carrying a firearm, I’m always cognizant of the situations I’m in and aware of the laws governing this most important right.

    That won’t change.

I owe it to the people in my community, God help me, to try to stop a threat to their safety, should it ever occur because of my presence.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------#---
By the way, any member of Congress who pushes a bill for Congressmen, but not citizens to have reciprocity, can go to hell.
