Man shoots German shepard in self defense
Police say dogs got loose, acted aggressive

    https://www.news4jax.com/news/man-sh...n-self-defense

PALM COAST, Fla. - The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says a 69-year-old man walking his dog shot a German shepard in self-defense.

Police say the man told them he was walking his dog Sunday morning on Westcliffe Lane when two dogs got loose from their yard and began to approach in an aggressive manner. The man tells police he tried to turn around and leave, but one of the dogs attempted to bite him and his dog. At that time, the man pulled his firearm and shot the aggressive dog.

Police say the owner of the German shepards admits they have gotten loose before. Neighbors also told authorities the two dogs roam the area regularly and act in an aggressive manner.

The man who fired the shot showed his concealed weapons license, to deputies and provided them with the gun and ammunition used.

"This is an unfortunate tragic neighborhood situation. While we never want to hear about the killing of a pet, pet owners must be responsible and watch over their animals," Sheriff Rick Staly said.

Shocking surveillance video captures scary moment for homeowner
    FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --
A victim speaks up, two days after a woman attempts to break-in through the window of her house in the Tower District.

The incident was all caught on surveillance video. The woman who was home during the vandalism, desperately waited inside for police to arrive.

"She said that her friend lived here and obviously I told her to leave," said Christine Paul. "It was a very traumatizing incident it's not anything anybody wants to face at any time."

Paul says the woman paced back and forth for 15 minutes on her porch, banging on her door and her windows.

"At that point when she started banging on the windows, I called the police," said Paul.

The experience brought the retired police officer to tears.

"I came very close to shooting her and I don't think she or her family realized that I mean it's something nobody wants to do."

Seconds after Paul told the woman she was armed with a gun. She is seen walking away as police are pulling up.

OFFICER: "Hi, do you live here."

    "No, I don't."

OFFICER: "So why are you banging on the door?"

    "Because my friend was there."

According to Fresno Police, the woman is 30-year-old Hannah Nakagawa. She is a resident of Fresno and according to the police report a Fresno Unified School District teacher.

Authorities believe Nakagawa was under the influence of alcohol.

She was arrested for vandalism and released to a friend at police headquarters with a citation and promise to appear in court.

This thread is mainly for when people use a firearm to make a difference in a bad situation. The stories hopefully show that citizens frequently use firearms to defend themselves everyday.

This story is different. I am including it because of the contrast to the normal story that it illustrates. It really highlights why a homeowner having a firearm available can be so important. In this case a person was in their house and someone tried to break in. The intruder had a knife. The homeowner called the police but was dead by the time the police showed up.

This thread has hundreds of stories that easily could have turned out the same way. But one big difference, the people in those stories had access to a firearm. Instead of being victims and statistics, they were able to defend themselves and their families against people wanting to do them harm.

Stories like this show just how evil the drive to disarm citizens is. If anti’s had their way, every citizen would be at the mercy of criminals like the guy who successfully killed their victim in this place. People would lose the ability to protect themselves and their families. The drive to disarm citizens or emulate countries like England and Australia is criminal imo.

Home invasion results in cross-fire, two suspects at-large

    By Ofelia Garcia Hunter
Posted at 4:49 PM Updated at 5:10 PM
A home invasion Thursday about 1 a.m., which escalated to a cross-fire shooting, resulted with the homeowner shooting one of the suspects and two others arrested.

Jim Wells County investigators are searching for a third suspect, Florentino Chapa – the suspect who was shot in the leg. Officials said Chapa has committed other home invasions and has no regard to human life.

Marcos Garza and Jesus Salinas were arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony, child endangerment, theft of firearm and engaging in criminal activity.

After 24 hours of the investigation, officers developed more information to secure a fourth warrant for Sergio Salinas. Salinas is wanted for four counts of theft of firearm.

“If you see any of these wanted suspects, they are dangerous, call the sheriff’s office,” said Jim Wells County Sheriff’s investigator Alan Gonzalez.

Sheriff’s officials said the four men forced themselves into a home on County Road 465 near Ben Bolt area while a family was asleep.

The homeowner was awaken and noticed the men putting on black masks and pulling out weapons. That’s when he put his family members in a closet for safety. The owner shot at the suspects and a shooting ensued.

One of the bullets hit a headboard in one of the bedrooms where a child was sleeping.

The suspects took off in their vehicle and within moments crashed the vehicle they were in near a cement company off South Highway 281. The individuals walked to the cement company and attempted to steal a truck as the watch person at the company was awaken. In the process, the men removed cameras and DVRs from the building.

“The investigators, within 12 hours, had the suspects in custody,” said Sheriff Daniel Bueno. “This type of criminal activity will not be tolerated.”

Officials with US Marshals assistance are looking for Chapa. Sheriff’s officials said anyone harboring a fugitive could be charged and arrested.

“We will come after you,” Bueno said.

Las Vegas jury acquits man of murder in 2013 shooting
A Las Vegas man was acquitted of first-degree murder on Monday in the fatal shooting inside his home.

Since detectives questioned him in September 2013, Troy Martinez has said he was acting in self defense when he fatally shot Brandon Kuhn, 32.

One of Martinez’s attorneys, Monti Levy, said she was grateful to jurors who found him not guilty. Martinez declined to comment after the verdict was announced.

“I’m very thankful that the jury saw that Troy was defending himself,” said Levy, who pointed to Kuhn’s criminal past, which included felony convictions.

Martinez told authorities that Kuhn hit and tried to choke him after an argument at Martinez’s home near Wigwam Avenue and Spencer Street.

Kuhn was shot 11 times and his body was found face down in Martinez’s bedroom. Prosecutors said Kuhn was shot eight times in the back. Martinez only remembers firing two shots, his attorney said.

But defense attorneys, including Levy and Richard Wright, said the shots were fired from a 9mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun in rapid succession. Twelve shots had been fired within three seconds.

Martinez and Kuhn were watching a football game on Sept. 5, 2013, when a quarrel broke out, and Kuhn, who had been drinking, became aggressive.

“Troy was trying to give him some relationship advice,” Levy said. “Brandon didn’t like it, hit Troy in the back of the head.”

Martinez wrested himself away from Kuhn, ran through his living room and into the master bedroom, where the gun was stored in a headboard.

As Kuhn tried to choke Martinez, he grabbed the gun and fired.
