Police: Man breaks into Glendale home and make food; held at gunpoint by neighbors

GLENDALE, AZ - A man allegedly broke into a Glendale home and made food before being held a gunpoint by the victim's neighbors.

Glendale police reported that on June 7 they responded to a home near 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road for a reported burglary.

The homeowner came home that night because she received an alarm activation warning. When she got home, she saw the front door open and a man in her living room.

She ran across the street to alert her neighbors and called the police, court documents said. The neighbors went to the victim’s house and were confronted by 46-year-old Aaron Mason.

The neighbors pointed handguns at Mason commanding him to get on the ground, court paperwork said. Mason reportedly smashed a glass bottle before sitting down.

The neighbors held Mason at gunpoint until police arrived, authorities said.

The victim reported to police that Mason had cooked and eaten her food and damaged items in her home. The damage is estimated to be about $3,000.

Mason has been charged with burglary.

This is a story from New Zealand. It gives a good contrast of gun laws in America and other countries. It also shows the importance of Castle Doctrine laws. In America this would probably be a justifiable shoot, few questions asked. In New Zealand a murder investigation is being opened. But in the end, A citizen with a gun possibly saved someone’s life. Hopefully it a quick investigation and the guy is found to have acted justly.

A MAN in the Bhekuzulu New Stands (Emadoshini) area handed himself over to the police on Monday after shooting and killing an alleged robber.

According to reports, a woman in the Emadoshini area was approached by the alleged robber in her home while she was trying to lock her garage door.

The man is said to have been carrying what appeared to be half of a brick. She tried to scream for help but was grabbed by the man and they started to struggle.

A male neighbour saw what was happening, went inside his house and retrieved his firearm.

The neighbour then fired two warning shots and the suspect allegedly let go of the woman and attempted to attack the neighbour who then fired a shot at the robbers head.

The neighbour then drove to the police station where he reported the incident, and handed himself and his firearm (licensed) over to the police.

The alleged robber died on scene.

The neighbour was arrested and released for finalisation of investigation.

A murder case has been opened against the neighbour as well as a robbery case against the deceased.

According to Warrant Officer Jethro Khumalo, the matter comes as a great shock to the Emadoshini community as they are still recovering from the blow of the two men that were found dead near the railway track who were also from Emadoshini.

“There is unrest in the community and they feel unsafe,” said W/O Khumalo.

Many community members have shown their support for the neighbour praising him for having stood up for the woman that was being attacked.
The dockets are currently awaiting a decision from the National Prosecuting Authority.

Police: Victim shoots suspect during attempted robbery
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - An attempted robbery turned violent in Rochester late Thursday night. Police say it was a suspect who got shot.

Four men tried to rob another man of his car and property on Grand Avenue, according to investigators. One of those suspects was armed and threatened the victim.

Police say the victim had a legally registered handgun and shot the armed suspect at least once in the upper body.

The suspect was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The victim was not harmed.

The suspects and victim are all in custody. Police say the victim is being interviewed and is cooperating with their investigation.

June 1-2 saw two strange, horrific bursts of gun violence.

A self-defense shooting that Saturday in the 1700 block of Coker Avenue soon got a little more complicated.

Eric Thomas was allegedly trying to rob the home when he was shot and killed. A man who reportedly shot at him, 48-year-old Rickey Boyd, wasn’t charged for a crime in the shooting, but later got hauled in on a charge of dealing marijuana.

He’s being held in the Vanderburgh County jail on no bond.

Child gives mom gun to shoot dad during violent fight in northwest Houston, police say

HOUSTON - A woman shot her husband Thursday after he choked her and broke into her northwest Houston apartment, police said.

According to investigators, just after 5 p.m. the man, identified as Derek Martin, broke into his wife's apartment in the 12000 block of North Gessner and began choking his wife in front of their four children. The couple's 8-year-old daughter hit her father while their 5-year-old child got a gun, police said.

Martin's wife took the gun from the child and shot Martin in the arm, police said.

He was taken to a hospital and released.

The extent of his wife's injuries was not immediately known.

The children were not injured.

According to police, Martin's wife has an order of protection against her husband.

He is being charges with a felony count of assault and a felony count of violating a protective order.

River North: Motorist With Concealed-Carry Saves Victim From 3-On-1 Beat-Down And Robbery

An armed suburban man with a concealed-carry license intervened in a 3-on-1 beating and robbery in River North yesterday evening, according to a witness and police.

The victim was in the 700 block of North Clark around 8:30 p.m. when three offenders wearing white surgical masks attacked him and began taking his property, police said.

A passing motorist who saw the robbery unfold pulled over, unholstered his concealed firearm and intervened in the attack. The three offenders fled westbound on Chicago Avenue as the concealed-carry holder protected the victim, according to a witness.

The driver, who lives in Mt. Prospect, returned to his vehicle and drove away after stabilizing the situation, a witness reported.

The victim lost his phone to the robbers who were described as two black men and one black woman wearing surgical masks. One of the offenders wore a red jacket and the others wore dark clothing.

Prosecutor won't file charges in strip club shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Prosecutors say they will not file charges against a security guard involved in a deadly shooting outside a strip club.

We showed you surveillance video of the fight inside the World Famous Show Club back in March.

That fight spilled into the parking lot and that's when the guard shot John T. Doe who was shown on video chasing others with a gun.

On Wednesday, prosecutors told us the guard was justified in that shooting.

17-YO Chicago thug steals Jeep from Fire Lieutenant, gets shot. Last words "Sorry, bro."

Janique Walker knows the cost of a split second.

Her younger brother, 17-year-old Charles Macklin, was killed while trying to steal a Jeep from a Chicago fire lieutenant on the West Side last August. The lieutenant had left the Jeep running, and Macklin jumped behind the wheel.

The lieutenant ran in front of the Jeep and shouted, “Get out,” according to a police report. When Macklin began pulling away, the lieutenant drew his gun and fired through the open driver’s side window, hitting the teen in the chest.

Macklin’s last words were, “Sorry, bro,” according to the police report. The teen died on the pavement. He did not have a gun on him.

The lieutenant had a concealed carry license. He was not charged and he was not disciplined by the department, according to spokesman Larry Langford.

“That was investigated by us, and we found no violation of any rules,” Langford said. “The police didn’t arrest, the state’s attorney found no reason to charge. There was no wrongdoing as far as the Fire Department is concerned.”

Walker, 20, has organized protests, started a Facebook page and launched a hashtag on Twitter. She says she hasn’t given up hope of getting justice for her brother.

She believes her brother was found guilty by one man with a gun. Walker said her brother should be alive to stand before a judge and take responsibility for his actions.

“When has it ever become legal to shoot someone because they’re pulling off in your car?” she asked. “Even if (Macklin) did that, if he did steal the car. You’ve got insurance — let him go to jail. I would’ve rather had to get a call to go bail him out of jail than to get a phone call that he’s dead.”

Walker organized a protest where her brother was killed. As they marched, she said she was approached by more than one person who said they witnessed the shooting. One woman said she saw Macklin lying on the pavement, struggling to breathe.

“She’s traumatized about it,” Walker said. “I get that. I couldn’t imagine watching a little boy dying in front of me either.”

Several instructors contacted by the Tribune said they emphasize in their courses that guns should only be used when a life, not property, is at stake.

David Lombardo, a concealed carry instructor who said he has trained more than 7,000 people to get state licenses, said he would let an armed carjacker take his car.

“You want my car? You can have it and I’ll hand over a (credit) card for gas, too," he said. "I’m not going to defend a car with a gun, that’s what insurance is for. I’ll get a better one.”

According to a police report, the Jeep was parked on the right side of the street and the teen was turning left to pull away from the curb when he was shot. "Vehicle starts to move forward. (The firefighter) moves to the left and draws his concealed firearm and fires one shot through the driver’s window.”

Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, did not return calls seeking comment on the case.

Lt. Matthew Boerwinkle, a spokesman for the Illinois state police, said it would not be appropriate for his agency to comment, even though it oversees the issuance of concealed carry permits. He responded with a copy of the Illinois’ “use of force” statute, which says a person is justified in using force to defend his life or the life of another if they reasonably fear similar force against them is imminent.

3 people shot in grocery store parking lot, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Investigators say three people were shot in parking lot of the Wesley Chapel Square shopping center along Wesley Chapel Road near South Hairston Road and Interstate 20.

Police confirmed they have one person detained in the incident.

Investigators said a group of people followed a couple into the grocery store and then back out as they exited. Police believe the people intended to rob or carjack the couple, but the man was armed.

As the couple walked back to their car, the man, believed to be the intended victim, pulled his gun and exchanged gunfire with the group that was following them. The man hit all three suspects, injuring them. Police say they have "moderate injuries."

Some cars in the parking lot were hit by several bullets, but police say, luckily, no one else was injured.
