Federal agent fatally shoots intruder in her Miami-Dade County home, police say

MIAMI (AP) — A federal agent fatally shot an intruder inside her home near Miami.

Miami-Dade police say it happened just before 2 a.m. Monday inside the agent's home in the Pinecrest neighborhood.

Local news outlets report the surrounding area has been blocked off as police investigate.

Investigators confirmed to NBC 6 that the homeowner is a Border Patrol agent, saying she opened fire after hearing a bedroom sliding glass door break and finding a person inside.

Officials have not released any information on her condition and say the road around that home will be closed for most of the morning as their investigation continues.

Bystander defends store owner shot in chest, shoots would-be robber
The store owner was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
DECATUR, Ga. - A man is in serious condition after being shot in the chest when he went to check on his store, only to find three individuals allegedly attempting to break into it.

At midnight on Monday, officers responded to reports of three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds at a liquor store located at 1920 Wesley Chapel Road.

When officers arrived, they found the store owner suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, a possible suspect suffering from a gunshot wound in his back and another individual who may or may not be involved in the incident was suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot.

Police believe that this was an attempted robbery and the store owner had come to this establishment during closing time when he was confronted by three individuals.

One of the alleged suspects fired at the store owner, hitting him in the chest, and a bystander then shot the individual in the back.

Police say that the bystander allegedly works as a jailer in a nearby county and was just a possible patron during the time of the incident.

The individual who was shot in the foot may or may not be a suspect but is being questioned at this time.

There are two suspects in custody and another being treated for his gunshot wound in his back.

The store owner was transported to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition and no fatalities have been reported.

Officers are still investigating this incident and no charges have been filed at this time.

62-year-old man fatally shoots bat-wielding son in Collinsville, police say
    By Beth Hundsdorfer bhundsdorfer@bnd.com

A 62-year-old Collinsville man fatally shot his 32-year-old son during a confrontation Friday night, according to police.

Collinsville Police Chief Steve Evans said police received a 911 call at about 11 p.m. from a residence on Raintree Trail. The caller — the father — said he had just shot his son.

Police arrived and performed first aid on the son until an ambulance crew arrived. The son was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital, where he died early Saturday morning.

“Investigators have been told the 32-year-old man was threatening his 62-year-old father with a baseball bat and was warned several times to back away before he was shot,” Evans said. “The father has been cooperative throughout the investigation. The investigation is continuing, and no charges have been filed at this time.”

The father was not being held by police.

Police did not release the identities of the father and son.

Update: Deputies conclude investigation of deadly shooting near Pink

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office has wrapped its investigation of Wednesday’s fatal shooting near Pink and believe it was a case of self-defense.

Sheriff Mike Booth identified the shooting victim as Richard Kolb, 40. He said Kolb was shot in the chest.

After a physical altercation at a man’s home on Rolling Hills Drive, the victim left and came back with a gun and allegedly shot at a vehicle at the residence, Booth said.

The suspect then retrieved a weapon as the victim attempted to enter the house and a shot was fired, resulting in Kolb’s death, Booth said.

After the investigation, the sheriff’s office determined the suspect was acting in self defense, Booth said.

“The evidence shows the victim fired several shots into a parked car and attempted to enter the house,” Booth said. “The suspect was protecting himself and his family when he fired the shot.”

Booth said the evidence, along with witness statements of what happened, determined the suspect was acting in self defense, Booth said.

The suspect voluntarily went to the sheriff’s office for questioning and was released, Booth said.

The evidence was turned over to the District Attorney’s office for final determination, Booth said.

Gabriel Chavez acquitted of murder in 2014 shooting death in El Paso's Lower Valley

A weekly list of the 10 most-wanted fugitives sought by the El Paso Police Department and El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Wochit

A man was acquitted of murder after a jury found that he acted in self-defense when he fatally shot a man outside his home.

Gabriel Chavez was found not guilty Wednesday by a jury in the shooting death of Carlos Marquez, 46, at about 1:40 a.m. Nov. 21, 2014, during an argument outside of Chavez's home in the 400 block of Duran Place in the Lower Valley.

The jury deliberated for more than three hours before reaching a verdict.

“All our testimony in the trial was that my client was a very peaceful man,” said Chavez’s lawyer, Justin Underwood. “He was a pastor at a church. In the past, the deceased (Marquez) had extorted money by violence and threats to at least two other elderly individuals on the same street.”

He added, “Our ability to develop what happened that night and the history of the violence on part of the deceased showed pretty clearly that it was self-defense.”

Investigators: man shot while trying to burn a home
    April 12, 2018
CALHOUN, Georgia (WDEF) – Investigators say the shooting of a man Wednesday night in Gordon County was a case of self defense.

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as 44 year old David Tucker.

Officials say he was shot around 10:45 outside of a relative’s home on Rock Creek Road.

Witnesses say he was uninvited and threatened a member of the family.

Investigators say they found evidence backing up witness accounts that Tucker was trying to set the home on fire.

No charges have been filed against the shooter.
