Police: Off-duty officer shoots armed suspect in Miamisburg
By Paul Rodzinka Published: February 5, 2018, 2:42 pm Updated: February 5, 2018, 6:56 pm

MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) – Police identified the armed robbery suspect as a 17-year-old male.

Officials say the suspect was released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is currently in the Montgomery County Juvenile Center.

Poilce have not release charges from this incident.

2 NEWS has confirmed one person has been shot by a police officer in Miamisburg.

Miami Township Police Detective Sergeant Paul Nienhaus told 2 NEWS a robbery call was placed around 2:20 pm Monday from the Shell gas station at Byers Road and SR-725.

Nienhaus said the suspect left the gas station in a car he allegedly stole from Dayton. The car broke down on SR-725 less than a block from the gas station. The suspect then got out of the car and pointed a handgun at other cars trying to hijack one of them, according to the Sergeant.

An off-duty officer from Miami Township Police was nearby and saw what was happening. The officer, who has not been identified, told the suspect to drop the gun. The unidentified suspect pointed the gun at the officer and the officer fired at the suspect.

The suspect has at least one injury to the arm and was able to walk to the ambulance under his own power. The suspect was taken to Kettering Medical Center.

Nienhaus said the Miami Township Police Department is proud of their officer’s quick action. The officer was taken to Sycamore Hospital as a precaution, which Neinhaus says is standard procedure after a shooting involving an officer.

Police roped off an area at the bottom of the off-ramp from I-75 south at SR-725 for an incident. The incident began just before 2:30 pm Monday. The ramp from the southbound side of I-75 to SR-725 was also closed and so was SR-725 running under I-75. All roadways reopened a little after 5 p.m.

We are working to learn more about this incident. We will keep you updated as soon as we learn more.

Homeowner confronts robber spotted on surveillance video

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS 12) —
It’s a conversation many of us have probably had, but thankfully, haven’t had to act on.

What would you do if you saw a strange man on your property? What about in your backyard? It’s a question one Boynton Beach family had to answer early Monday morning.

Around one clock this morning Holly Ernst’s phone lit up.

“I looked over and it actually said motion detected on courtyard,” said Holly Ernst. She checked out her security camera system. She did not see the typical raccoon or cat, instead, she saw an intruder in her family’s backyard.

“He is looking to see is there anything loose, and of value to take, definitely up to no good,” said Holly Ernst. So she rushed over to tell her husband, Dean Ernst.

“I said there’s somebody on our back porch,” said Holly. “I am ready to protect not only myself but any innocent bystander as well,” said Dean. “So up gun in hand, he rushed out the backdoor,” said Holly.

After taking a few steps out the door and just feet away from the couple’s kayaks, life vests, and lawnmower, Dean Ernst spotted Canson St. Fort. “I pretty much told him, don’t move a muscle, I have a gun aimed at your head,” said Dean.

“My heart was racing out of my chest of course, I’m crying,” said Holly. She was on the phone with police, while David commanded St Fort to get on the ground. “What am I going to do if he jumps up and rushes at me, I might have to shoot this guy,” said Dean, recounting the event. After four minutes, which seemed like hours, Boynton Beach Police arrived and took St. Fort away in cuffs. Then the couple, happy to be alive and safe, embraced. “We were up until about 4:45am just holding each other, life is short,” said Holly.

St. Fort is in jail charged with burglary. The Ernst couple credit their surveillance system and the second amendment for his arrest. Throughout the interview, they commended the Boynton Beach police department for the quick response and their professional demeanor at their home.

    Posey Co. homeowner shoots burglar
    Wednesday, February 7th 2018, 7:06 am EST
    MT. VERNON, IN (WFIE) -
A homeowner shot a burglar inside his Posey Co. home.

Police and deputies were called to a home on Southwind Avenue Tuesday evening around 5:30.

The homeowner told officers two men came into his house and one of them had a gun.

Officers say the homeowner shot at the attempted burglars, hurting one of them. That man was taken to the hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Police say the other man ran off.

Investigators say they believe the two men and the homeowner know each other and it was not a random act.

Armed Neighbor Shoots Out Robbery Suspects’ Tires, Holds at Gunpoint for Police
    AWR Hawkins6 Feb 2018

The incident occurred Sunday around 6:30 a.m.

Victor Valley News reports that two suspects, 31-year-old Justin Elder and 59-year-old David Turner, allegedly “forced entry into the residence but were confronted by a neighbor who was armed with a handgun.” The intended victim was soon joined by another neighbor, who was armed with a long gun as well.

Law enforcement explained: “The neighbor called 911 and then proceeded to shoot the tires on the suspect’s vehicle and the ground, keeping the suspects detained until deputies arrived. A second neighbor heard the gunshots and came to the residence armed with a shotgun but fired no rounds.”

Elder and Turner were both detained and, as the investigation began, authorities reportedly concluded that both men had allegedly been involved in an earlier robbery at the same residence. A search warrant executed at property owned by Turner turned up “about 75% of the victim’s stolen property.” It also enabled authorities to discover “22.4 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, four guns, and ammunition.”

Elder and Turner faced various charges relating to drug and firearms possession, as well as possession of stolen property.

Homeowner's brother killed in Springdale Township shooting
    Matthew Medsger
Susan Cain now has two brothers who were shot to death.

Cain, 54, of 1206 Butler St., Springdale Township, said the man fatally shot Sunday morning as he broke into her home was her brother, who was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office as Joseph Secora, 39, of Springdale.

“It's been a very tough time for our family,” she said. “On top of this, we just lost my father.”

Cain said their father, Paul Secora III, died because of illness late last year.

Local police and Allegheny County detectives were called to the home just after 10 a.m. Sunday and found Joseph Secora with a fatal gunshot wound on a hillside across the street, Springdale Township police Chief Mike Naviglia said.

Police said Secora broke into the house through rear sliding glass doors above the garage of the small, yellow frame home.

James Cain, 21, then fired a single gunshot that hit him, Susan Cain confirmed. James is Susan's son.

The intruder ran down a small hill, crossed Butler Road, and then fell down a hillside between some houses, police said. He was dead at the scene.

County police classified the shooting as a home invasion-homicide and, on Monday, ruled Secora's cause of death as a “penetrating gunshot wound of the abdomen.”

    No charges filed

No charges have been filed as a result of the shooting.

According to Allegheny County detectives, it's hard to say why Joseph Secora may have been attempting to break into the home, but he may have been struggling with mental health problems.

“It is believed (Secora) had mental health issues,” county Detective Sgt. Ken Ruckel said in a news release.

Cain said that this isn't the first time a member of her family has died of a gunshot wound.

Her brother, Tommy Secora, was shot and killed in 1980 at the home of a friend. Tommy was 15 and a student at Springdale High School. That shooting was ruled accidental.

Blakely woman shoots and kills home intruder

Saturday around 11:30 p.m., the Early County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a homeowner reporting an intruder in her house on Woodlawn Drive in Blakely.

A struggle ensued and the woman ended up shooting the intruder.

" At the time she called 911, she had locked her daughter in a bedroom to be able to call 911. She wasn't sure where the intruder was at that time after shooting him," said Captain Will Caudill, Early County Sheriff's Office.

The woman had noticed something unusual in her daughter's bedroom concerning a window.

"When she went to investigate that is when she reports Lindsey came out and assaulted her and her daughter," said Caudill.

Deputies responded to the scene and made contact with the victims.

They then began searching the exterior of the residence.

"They found a male subject lying in the back yard, unresponsive and suffering from apparent gun shot wounds," said Caudill.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced.

He has been identified as 53-year-old Michael Lindsey.

He is listed on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender Registry for molesting a child almost 20 years ago.

Investigators searching the area located Lindsey's vehicle parked behind the Budget Inn, which is close to the residence.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation. Once all evidence is compiled it will then be turned over to the District Attorney's Office where they will decide whether or not to present the case to a grand jury.

    Sean BauteThu 4:51 PM, Feb 01, 2018
BROWNSVILLE, Ky (WBKO) -- A Grayson County man is behind bars after allegedly breaking into a residence in Edmonson County.

    Robert Hunt

The Edmonson County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Robert Hunt was held at gunpoint by the homeowner until deputies arrived to the house on E.G. Nash Road.

The homeowner was a Concealed/Carry Deadly Weapons permit holder according to a sheriff's deputy that says in situations like that, it's important to alert police to ensure everyone's safety.

"Once you call police, if you're actually going to hold that suspect at gun point you need to let dispatch know. Go ahead and give a description of yourself, so we know once we get on scene who the actual conceal carry holder is and who actualy is the suspect," said Deputy Jordan Jones with the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office.

Hunt was taken to the Hart County jail.

He's facing charges of robbery 2nd degree, theft by unlawful taking or disposition-firearms, and theft by unlawful taking or disposition-all others under $500.

Ada home invasion suspect shot by homeowner
    Sydney GrayWed 6:07 PM, Feb 07, 2018
FRANCIS, Okla. (KXII) - It was just before 3 a.m. when Dennis Reif heard the commotion in his kitchen.

"I got my gun out of the drawer because I heard someone smashing in here and I saw a flashlight beam," Reif said.

Reif says he came face to face with Chris Born, who he claims fired four shots at him, but missed.

That's when Reif grabbed his .38 caliber revolver and shot Born twice in the chest.

"I just quickly leveled at him and fired to protect myself and he screamed and yelled he was hit,"Reif said.

"When the shots were fired they dropped everything and left the residence," Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said.

Investigators say Born took off with Dustin Hoots in a pickup, they were caught after a short chase, but Hoots, the second burglary suspect ran off and is still missing.

Two other women, Jeanette Matthews and Tara Whittecar were in a separate pickup, and were also arrested.

The sheriff says he thinks they were acting as the lookout for born.

"We know there were two vehicles there," Christian said.

Christian said they found several stolen guns at a local shop building while trying to find Hoots.

Christian said Born, a convicted felon, runs the shop and faces felonious possession of a firearm.

The sheriff says Born likely broke in because he assumed no one was home.

Christian said they're still searching for that second suspect and anyone with information should contact the sheriff's department.

Iberville sheriff says teen's shooting death was case of self-defense
UPDATE: The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said Sunday night's shooting that left 17-year-old DeShannon Woods dead in Plaquemine was a case of self-defense.

Authorities say a group of six or seven people were playing dice on a front porch Sunday night when two armed robbers approached them. The two then demanded the group's money.

The sheriff's office said a 16-year-old who was part of the dice game pulled out a gun and fatally shot one of the robbers. Deputies say the teen is not being charged with the death, however, he will be charged for being a juvenile in possession of a weapon.

Two others, 20-year-old Reginald Dorsey and 17-year-old DeShannon Johnson, have been arrested by authorities. The sheriff says the robbery was Dorsey's idea, while Johnson is accused of hiding a weapon used in the crime.

Investigators say they found the robbers' weapons buried in Addis.

Dorsey is charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Johnson is charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to armed robbery.
