Default Semi-Auto Hunting on its way.

This just landed in my inbox.

    https://www.nraila.org/articles/2017...le-hunting-law

Take a look at the "proposed rulemaking" link. As the proposal is written, it looks like they are going to open it up for semi-auto RIFLES and shotguns for ALL seasons.

Well that looks promising, I'd like to see the mag limits bumped up to 10 rounds so I didn't have to buy funky clips for my Garand but it's way better than the only groundhog and coyote rules that we thought were going to be proposed.

I'll be more than happy to buy a different magazine to get me into the woods with my AR in 6.5 grendel

I say no round limit. There is no logical reason for them and there are no magazines for my EAA Witness 10mm semi-auto pistol in less than 14 rounds.

Unless I am mistaken, I don't think any semi-auto pistols are in the legislation.

Look carefully. As the proposed rules are written, they state "semi-automatic centerfire rifle". They make no mention of semi-auto handguns.

Honestly, I don't see semi-auto handguns being allowed. Many of us have something that would be suitable for hunting (10mm, 45ACP, etc.), but I'm sure that there would be many guys (read idiots) in the woods with their pocked sized 9mm or 380ACP trying to take a deer at 75 yards. The only way to address the "power" issue would be to have an equation that takes bullet weight, diameter, and velocity into account. If you calculate a number above X, you may use that firearm to hunt. I doubt that math comes easily to the people who would take their 380ACP deer hunting, so it's just easier to disallow it than to deal with idiots.

    Just pulled this snippet
A manually operated or semiautomatic, centerfire [firearm] rifle or manually operated, centerfire handgun that propels single-projectile ammunition.
I believe it's the same for both small & large game.

When we had to limit the mags in jersey, we used old mags, drilled a hole for pop rivet.
