    Default Ruger SP101- help needed

I need some help from the group...

Last weekend, I picked up a SP101 Talo from my LGS. It was used, but in new condition. The owner bought it last month, took it to the range once and traded it in for another gun. I'm not much of a revolver guy, but couldn't beat the price.

Here's where I need the help. This revolver is DAO with a bobbed/spurless hammer. Looking online over the last few days, I can't find any info regarding Ruger offering the Talo/ Wiley Clapp SP101s in DAO.

The box and paperwork lists the 05774 model number of the Talo edition. Same for the catalog number. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in 2016.

Anyone know anything about this gun? Is it some kind of limited run of DAO SP101s? Manufacturing error (unlikely, but possible)? I love the gun and the DAO/ bobbed hammer was actually one of the reasons I bought it.

I just find it odd that I can't find any info, not even a picture of another DAO Talo SP101.

I had a standard SP101 in double action only and it definitely had a different hammer than yours. I know the Talo edition has changes so that doesn't really prove anything but is it possible the previous owner swapped some parts?

I thought of that, but everything appears to match the rest of the gun perfectly, like from the factory. I'm sure a good gunsmith could make their work look "stock", but it doesn't seem likely someone would go through the trouble and expense to make changes to "personalize" a gun, then turn around and trade it in for something else so fast.

Unless the person just likes working on guns. I got a customized Ruger SR1911 from a guy who just liked buying guns, working on them, and selling them.

From the photos it appears that the hammer, cylinder, trigger, the end of the hammer axis pin, and the cylinder release button are high-polished, and the cylinder looks tapered towards the front like that on my Clapp GP100.

Here's a standard SP101 with a bobbed hammer from the side.

Try cocking it single action style. If it engages a sear and holds the hammer back you have your answer.

The Ruger SP101 model #5774 is NOT a DAO handgun, it IS a DA/SA handgun. The previous owner has bobbed the hammer (or had someone do it for him). Also, it was not sold with a polished finish, it would have been a matte stainless steel.
