Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
Saw this in to-night's paper in the outdoor column. PGC is considering closing a couple of pheasant farms in the state and starting a stamp program like you need for turkey. Tossing around a possible fee of $25.oo Any thoughts or opinions ?
For those who've never fought for it, the price of freedom shall never be known.

Re: Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
I can tolerate it and will pay. I've hunted pheasant more this year than any time before, mostly because I have a new puppy and my wife is interested in it. Sadly I think that wild pheasant in huntable numbers is probably beyond the realm of possibility in PA at this point. PGC is already strapped for cash given no license increase. If you're going to have a put and take resource, you're going to have to pay for it (just like trout stamp for fishing). Sadly with the grouse population also in real trouble this is the only upland bird hunting we have. I know some will disagree as you will now have to pay extra for something that was included in the past and will probably be less birds stocked, but the alternative is having nothing at all.

Re: Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
I am from Ohio and am looking at property in PA. I would buy one even if I had no plans on hunting pheasants; on the odd chance one jumped in front of me while I was in the woods. In Ohio, I buy a fishing license, range license, spare deer tags because if I ever want to go, I don't want to make the extra trip to get one.

Re: Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
I think it is pretty much a done deal. I believe the final vote for all the rule changes is coming soon. I don't do any hunting for phesant alone but will take one if the opportunity presented itself. I Will however buy the stamp. I don't mind buying hunting or fishing licences. I don't always agree with the commissions but at least I know my money is going to something that is worthwhile. I know they aren't perfect but there seems to be less waste and corruption than in other areas of the government.

Re: Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
It's about time. The PGC spend a lot of funds raising and stocking birds that we all pay for, and most of us never hunt for various reasons. I have to pay for all manner of tags for deer the PGC has nothing invested in. The DCNR, farmers, and private land owners all pay to raise everything else we hunt. Never made a shits worth of sense why an animal that is stocked was a freebie.

Re: Possible Pheasent Stamp coming
Should have happened 20-30 years ago. Perhaps the funding from all of the years gone by would have put us in a better place by now. Instead we have wasted our time and funding until now and are left paying more for less.
