Default Can you rack your slide in condition 2 with a Sig p238?

Dropped my p238 onto the carpeted floor today holstering with mittens on. Gun was in condition 1. My butt puckered a little but no ND. Tested function and noticed I could rack it with a mag inserted in condition Two (round in chamber, hammer back, and safety on).

Is this normal or did I bust something. I can't remember if this is factory or I need to see a smith. Safety still works and all is well otherwise.

    Thanks guys!

Yes, it is supposed to do that. Bigger question is, why the hell were you wearing mittens!?!

Forgive me, but (for 1911s, at least):

    • Condition 1 is chambered, cocked, and on safe. Design condition for a 1911. Hammer can't fall, slide can't move.
    • Condition 2 is chambered, hammer down. Safety can not be engaged on a 1911 with hammer down, but it also can't fire (normally) without cocking. *Getting* to condition 2 requires pulling the trigger to release the hammer and riding the hammer down. IMO, beyond stupid. A Series 70 in Condition 2 is NOT drop safe, as the hammer is already on the firing pin and there's nothing to keep the pin from the primer except the spring. Bad juju. Very bad.
    • Condition 3 is empty chamber, hammer down. No way it'll fire until racked.

Your description of Condition 2 matches my description of Condition 1. What's your Condition 1?

And, to Orlov's question, why were you wearing mittens on a carpeted floor?

When you have to take a pie out the oven, you have to take a pie out of the oven. If the pie fights back you may need to take a couple shots.

P938/P238 allow you to rack in condition 1, you didn't break anything.

And agreed mittens don't go well with potentially having to pull a trigger

Of course you need mittens. You have to be able to defend yourself schussing down the Alps.

If a handgun breaks from a fall onto carpet in a home setting it would have blown up the first time it was fired. This is a good reason to have a drop safety preventing the gun from firing when dropped. Now back to mitten wearing. Why wear mittens in the house while handling loaded guns? Inquiring minds want to know.

Agree with all of the above. Still waiting on OPs definition of Condition 1...
