Default New SIG P225a1 went home

I'm a big fan of single stack compact metal framed pistols.

This one is new to the collection. It's the most ergonomic handgun I've felt. It's a little bigger than my Colt defender 45. Small enough for carry, big enough for general use. It feels like a full size, but when you carry it, it feels small and light.

Anyone else a fan of the new P225a1?

Nice gun. However I don't agree with the small and light description. My main complaint is I found that I can carry and conceal a 229 just as well as the 225a1. The size and weight are almost identical. The main difference I found is in the weight of the 15 rounds vs 8 rounds. The m11a1 would even be a closer comparison because it is slightly smaller than the 229. I think they could have made this better if they redesigned it to reduce the weight and grip length giving it a substantial advantage over over the bigger models when it comes to CC. It would also help if they reduce the price. Just my opinion, enjoy your new gun.

Yes. New one may be nice, but its not any better then old P225. But new P225 cost X2 as much as old one.
I miss my old one(I had both old P225 and once cheap, and available where West German Police surplus P6...)...

Do the old ones have the stamped carbon steel slides with the rolled pinned breach block? I understand that those models can only go ~3,000 rounds before the roll pins need to be replaced.

I may be wrong, but the aluminum framed pistols from the 70's and 80's used an aluminum alloy that was not as durable as the stuff used today in Colt's and SIGs.

I think the new ones are better in some ways, and not better in other ways.

Why would that be? The roll pin is not stressed, it is just used to hold the breech block in place. The block bears against many points on the slide. The carbon steel slide makes the gun considerably lighter than the monolithic SS of the new guns.

I have never seen a Sig alloy frame failure, or heard of one. I'm sure that they have occurred, but in such a small number as to be statistically insignificant. I have seen the folded carbon steel slides fail, but that was after many thousands of rounds and, again, very rare.

    Yes, I am biased...

    P225 w/folded slide

    P220R w/folded slide
