I am not real sure but I think Spikes mite have a dedicated 9mm lower.

I have built many Spikes Lowers in 556 and never had any issues withe their products. Check them out.

Just don't use a Colt semi 556 hammer. The front notch will lock up the gun by snagging the 9MM bolt. Real PIA. Ask me how I know. Try to find a ramped bolt or have yours done. While it's a much bigger problem in FA, even the semi only should be done. It has to do with moving the bolt/hammer contact area away from the hammer pin. This lessens the impact on the hammer pin and helps prevent egging of the receiver hole.

I remember reading about the Colt Hammer Lockup issue in AR15. I forgot all about that issue until Bob mentioned it.

I do remember some AR15 owners, (in AR15.com), sent their receivers out and had the areas around the Trigger & Hammer Pin Holes hardened. They said that would solve the egging issue. At that time I was looking into running 9mm through my Colt M16 for sub gun matches but I decided not to mess with my Colt M16.

Palmetto State Armory has a sale right now on a blem 9mm glock style stripped lower and 10x 17 rd pmag glock 17 mags for $199 so I ended up buying it.
It will probably be awhile before I complete this thing as I just bought a good chunk of money on a scope, base, and rings for another rifle.

How do I get started on the SBR paperwork? Do I need the paperwork to be done before engraving?

The only real difference in your build would be the buffer tube - you'd use a pistol buffer tube.
The diameter is purposely different and stocks will not fit on one.

That said, I highly recommend using a Shockwave Blade. (if you plan on choosing between that or a Sig brace)
You can get the entire kit that includes a KAK buffer tube which is specifically designed for use with the Shockwave Blade because it has a row of "dimples" on the underside which allow you to position the Blade where you want it, then snug a set screw into a dimple, preventing it from moving.
Second the Shockwave Blade for a pistol set up...Schuyler Arms has the full kit on sale for only $65...

I'd wait for approval and the stamped Form 1 before engraving the receiver. Sometimes, ATF insists on a change, if you abbreviate something in a way they don't like. It's a lot easier to engrave later than to un-do an engraving.

I already bought the lower, a Palmetto State Armory lower.

Probably buy the upper from them too because they have reasonable prices

can you recommend a good site to use to go through the process step by step for dummies (lol) for creating an SBR?

I found 2 pretty easy and they seem simple.

I used the arfcom sticky as it's a little more up to date post 41f changes compared to the sticky we have here. Form 1'ing an sbr is really easy especially if you fill it out on the editable PDF file. Once you do that, you print, attach 2 passport photos, two sets of prints and mail the first two copies w tax paid to the atf and third copy goes to the Cleo(I used head of the PSP). Hardest part imo is the prints. Good luck. Form 1/4 guide.
