Enfield help
Just "inherited" this enfield. It was already sporterd when I got it and IMA keep it that way. But I'm having difficulty figuring out which "version" smle it is. Wanna scope it for my son to use. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Enfield help
Seconding the need for photographs. The two most common variants are based on the No. 1 action and No. 4 action, however there are many variations and being sporterized the rifle might have had the basic receiver altered. The receiver is significantly differently contoured between some of the Lee Enfield actions. Also, There is also a Mauser type "Enfield" action. (P-14 and P17) which are completely different rifles.

Re: Enfield help
The number 1 mk 3 will have the rear sight (leaf type)mounted on the barrel , the number 4 mk 1/2 has a rear peep sight mounted on the rear of the receiver . Also the number 4 has a more square ish shape to the rec.

Re: Enfield help
There was no P17 Enfield.
Pattern 14 yes (P14), M1917 yes, P17? Nope.
Yes, it's like mags and clips to me...

Re: Enfield help
Flathead you are both wrong and right about the P17. Technically it is the US Model of 1917, but was commonly called the "Enfield" in WW 1 and even today frequently called the P17 Enfield even though manufactured by Remington, Eddystone and Winchester. I doubt the guy who posted the question is aware of the differences. Since we haven't seen pictures of the rifle in question, so it isn't settled amongst us armchair pundits. :-)
