    Default Ruger GP100 Trigger Job

I've had my GP100 for about 2 years and never actually fired it in DA at the range because the DA trigger was garbage. I watched some youtube videos, took everything down to familiarize myself with the contact points and ordered the Wollf competition springs. I replaced the hammer and trigger return springs (I used 10lb pound springs on both), polished pretty much everything that touches while pulling the trigger in DA and SA and now, it reminds me of the Sig P250 DAO trigger. The initial heavy resistance is gone and it's smooth and consistent until it breaks. Very easy to stage or pull in one motion. I started with a knife sharpening stone but got some 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit sandpaper for finishing. I had some Mother's polish that seemed to work pretty well to shine but shining alone made little or no difference in the trigger pull. After experimenting with the different spring strengths and some more fine polishing, I was finally satisfied. I also polished the exterior of the trigger and hammer to a mirror shine. I really like the contrast of sandblasted matte and mirror polish. Going to the range tomorrow morning to see how it does.

I'm pretty sure taking a picture of a firearm on rocks like that violates EM's copyright.

Did you reshape the sear at all or just polish it?

I kept the original shape of everything I polished so they still work as intended, I just did some light sanding and polishing.

This is one of the videos I watched. Nutnfancy also has one where he watched his gunsmith do most of the work. That one was pretty useful as well.

This Colion Noir video with Jerry Miculek inspired me/shamed me into fixing my shitty DA trigger so I didn't have to fire every shot in SA.

Yes, those are real rocks. It's my driveway.

My first 6 shots after the trigger job were with 158 grain FMJ 38 Special. I fired all 6 in DA into a fist sized group at about 10 yards. I was pretty pleased by that.

What's the pull weight on your DA trigger now?

Have basically done exactly what you have done and started with my GP100 several years ago. It has a wonderful double action trigger. Single action is also good but not S&W single action good. Now I polish every trigger on every pistol I have. I did at first swap out the factory springs for lighter springs, but then I was getting light primer strikes in double action. So I no longer change the factory weight springs. I much prefer shooting double action when I am at the range and like knowing that ALL metal to metal contact is mirror polish.
