Glad this got bumped. It was a great read! It would have sucked for me to miss this. I think we are in fact coming to a crossroads as the author points out, and the window of opportunity is fast closing.

How many lines have already been crossed?

• Warrantless wiretaps?
• Physical assaults, nudie scanners, not to mention theft, as the "price" of free travel?
• "Free speech zones" and arresting people for simply protesting their government (even if you disagree with the particular protest)?
• Federal mandates requiring individuals to purchase products from private companies?
• Seizure of private property without due process or compensation, by eminent domain, TSA "security," & asset forfeiture laws?
• Indefinite detention of Americans without charge or trial?
• Giving the President an unreviewable authority to declare any individual a "terrorist" and stripping them of their rights, or the authority to order Americans killed without charge or trial, based on an unreviewable determination that such a person is an al queda "terrorist"?
• Elimination of some posse commitatus provisions, enabling the President to deploy military forces in the US and Federalize National Guards without state consent?
• What else?

What is the "last" line, beyond which there would be overt violence against USG and more or less organized attempts to overthrow the usurpers that falsely claim to be the United States government? At what point do groups of Americans start organizing meaningful resistance? And where the heck have all these broken windows been all this time?

I don't know what the future holds. But we're past the point of no return at some level; the constitution as written is gone, just gone. It's not coming back. There is simply no reconciling the government that we have with the constitution as written, and the government tries less and less to even put on a fig leaf of compliance. Similarly, there is no reconciling the needs and expectations of the people today with the constitution. We need about a half-dozen constitutional amendments just to legitimize half of today's government (and not the police state half).
