    Default M855A1 Bullets

In case any of you want to play with the unobtainium M855A1 bullets, American Reloading has some pulled ones in stock. Warning though, they are stupid expensive...

The M855A1 has an all copper base slug with a copper jacket wrapped around the base slug and approx half of the larger steel penetrator. The steel tip is larger than in the regular M855. Since it is all "green" the bullet is considerably longer than the regular M855 bullet. http://www.military.com/equipment/m8...formance-round

Unless they have internal guidance, I think I'll pass.

Those are the old style M855 bullets, not the M855A1.

I don't know who would pay that. You can get already loaded M855 for @ 30-36 cents a round....... (I know it's the new "cool" thing but yeah ......no thanks).

As far as I know if you want to play with the new M855A1 round this is the only way to do it. There is no commercial source for this ammo/bullet. Just the military and they are not letting any sneak out.

Reloading might be a problem though. The new round is loaded at an even higher pressure than the already overpressure M855 (way over SAMMI) and it takes a specialized powder. I doubt you could match the velocity with a canister powder and be safe.

Does seem like a fun round. Penetrates way better than the M855. The M885A1 is supposed to penetrate a 3/8-inch steel plate at 300 yards while the older M885 does not penetrate at 100 yards. And it is supposed to be more accurate.
