I bought two of my NF 5.5-22X 56 NSX's used for around $1000. You can always get a nice Leopold for 800 to 1200.

I just stuck one of these VX-R Patrol scopes on my last Seekins Precision build with a Larue tactical mount and it does well. Under a $1000 to boot.
