Buying a gun with the intention to give it to someone else. COULD be considered a straw purchase.
And selecting the box on the form concerning if this is a gift (or is it worded something different ?). Could get you denied AND also be charged with doing a straw purchase.

HOWEVER; if you fully intend to buy the gun for yourself, then the next day decide you don't like, and give it to your wife. That's perfectly legal.

It is perfectly legal to check you are buying the gun for yourself even with the intent at purchase to "give" it to you wife. Not only does such a gift not need another transfer, but firearms are treated as marital property in PA, so even if you buy a gun for "yourself", it actually belongs to both of you...not a big deal unless you get divorced.

My wife and I have bought each other multiple guns.

Also, to the OP...welcome to the forum, and clicking "reply with quote" rather than simply "reply" will give context to your replies.

There are threads where this has been hashed out. It is correct to answer you are buying the gun for yourself if it is intended to be a gift as long as it is gifted to a person you can legally gift it to. A spouse is someone you can legally gift it to.
    Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.
