Thinking of getting a Walther Q5 match next year to get into IDPA.
I'm thinking of getting into IDPA next year. The only pistol I have is a sub-compact 9mm. I know there's a ccp division but, I think to really enjoy the game I'd probably like a larger gun that's somewhat easier to land shots with. I would imagine a full size 5 inch barrel pistol would be a tad easier to control...is that right? I'm still quite a rookie, just started shooting in June.
I really like the look of Walthers. Thinking of getting a 5" pistol by them in 9mm.

For someone starting out, a regular 4 inch barreled gun is fine. If you want to buy a 5 inch barreled pistol fine. Until you learn the in's and out's of IDPA, the rules and how stages work, I don't think it matters what pistol you use as long as it's something you enjoy shooting.
I'm moving on to a Walther Q5, but I haven't found them readily available.

Sweet, sweet gun. Good luck finding one though. Best bet will be GB.

After you do IDPA for a while you will probably find that you want to do it with your carry gun so you can become more proficient with it. Have fun.

I'd recommend shooting a few matches to make sure you actually enjoy it, before spending money on a new gun. Especially with the IDPA rules changing....again.

I'm coming up on 3 years shooting IDPA. I use my EDC holster on my EDC belt to carry the twin sister to my EDC gun. If I did things for the accolades I'd have pinned a lot more ribbons on my Army uniform back in the day, and probably have more than one IDPA trophy. I do it to reinforce in my head that I should be able to convince bad guys to stop what they're doing should the need ever arise, and - you know - to have some fun...
