    I have heard of local, uniformed, departments trying this BS.. but I believe PA Law requires the sale be purged.. plus pistols can be gifted within family..
    So if someone has a 40 yr old revolver and it gets gifted within family there would be no record..as with pistols purchased before the requirement..

    So I would tend to say fiddlesticks

Some of my pistols were bought out of state years ago before I moved here. Has anyone else heard of this before? Thanks.
    Your gun shop is blowing smoke. Read this, which was put out by PSP several years ago;

    I thought PA already determined that a firearms registry is unconstitutional, so the police have no duty to check serials short of a felony stop.

    Find another gun shop. One not staffed by morons. There are plenty to choose from.

    By law, it is against said law to maintain a registry. I go over this every year with my guys during our annual firearms training & qualification. You hear it quite often over the radio, officers running serial numbers. I then ask my guys, what is he looking for? Someone will answer, to see if it's stolen. I then ask, is he going to run everything in the vehicle with a serial number; iPad, laptop, etc? And if it's for ownership, since there is no "registry" and heeding the information I posted above, what basis is there for doing it?

    To be honest, no.

    But it is a huge training issue here in Philadelphia. I have had the same conversation that Steve in PA mentions with some of my coworkers. One comeback was that they still run the vehicle for wants even though it was stopped for going through a redlight and have no immediate reason to believe it was stolen. And then they add the gun to the investigation.

    The is no law that I am aware of in Pa. that requires you to show ownership of a hand gun. Add that to the fact that you are allowed to loan a friend with a LTCF a hand gun and that would seem to me to be an over reach of "authority."
