Ruger American Pistol?
Anyone have one or shot one? I like the idea of having a tough, American made 9mm striker fired pistol in my collection. I all ready have SIG's, HKs, a shield, Glock 30, etc. Ruger does a lot for the NRA, so I don't mind supporting them even if there are better pistols out there. I just want to find out if anyone had any problems with theirs.

Re: Ruger American Pistol?
I've heard nothing but good comments on the Ruger American Pistol, both the 9mm and the .45. These comments come from people that are not afraid to speak their minds about Ruger products, Ruger collectors. They are not fanbois, they are not afraid to tell Ruger the pig is ugly if it is.

Re: Ruger American Pistol?
Definitely go rent one and shoot it. It's a very accurate gun but the beaver tail and trigger have received mixed reviews from everyone I know who has shot it. You either love it or hate it. I personally didn't mind the trigger even though it was a bit mushy. The beaver tail didn't give me any issues either even though some have complained about it beating up their hand. I think it's a fine pistol and a good alternative to another Glock.

I have the full size in 9mm and haven't had any issues whatsoever. It eats everything I feed it.
A friend of mine had a hell of a time swapping the grip module out to a different size, but experienced no other issues.
I'm hoping they decide to release x-change kits like Sig does with the P320 since the American is similarly modular.
We're both in Philly. If our schedules align, I wouldn't be opposed to letting you try it out.

Re: Ruger American Pistol?
I have the compact version in 9mm. I do enjoy shooting it.
I do experience the beaver tail problem. After I put about 100 rounds through it, the rear knuckle on my thumb got raw from the beaver tail rubbing it. If you plan on sending lots of rounds down range, I'd wear some gloves.
Otherwise, it is a fine pistol.
