Derringers and revolvers without trigger guard
What's the deal with these small revolvers and derringers without trigger guards? How safe are they? I keep eyeing them up, but I'm hesitant to put one in a pocket holster.

Re: Derringers and revolvers without trigger guard
They are very interesting. All of the ones I've seen are single action and that makes them very safe. They are not to be carried cocked. An NAA mini or something like a Bond Arms derringer would be fun to have and fun to carry as someone who enjoys all types of guns. I don't carry a backup gun but would consider them one.

I'd love to have this one myself. Black powder. 5 shot .31 caliber.

Single action, perfectly safe IMO.
I regularly carry a NAA mini in .22wmr.
As mentioned, there is a safe way to carry it between chambers.

Fitz made it popular to do to colt detective specials. Many imitators. Lots of butchered guns. I saw one at Gettysburg or leesport two years ago. Never saw a real Fitz in person. The single actions are safe. Bond makes a removable trigger guard for their derringers.

Re: Derringers and revolvers without trigger guard
I have both a NAA Wasp .22lr/.22WMR and a Bond Arms Texas Defender.
The little Wasp has the grooves between each round in the cylinder. The hammer can be rested in one of the grooves for safe carry.
On the Bond Arms Derringer, there are two safeties. One is a "crossbolt" safety. When engaged it blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pins (the gun has two, one for each of the barrels) even after cocking and pulling the trigger. The second safety is something Bond Arms calls a "rebounding hammer". The "rebounding hammer" is sort of half cocked after firing. It sits away from the round, and even if it is pushed forward manually or hit with something, it will not reach the firing pins. It will only reach the firing pins if it is fully cocked and the trigger is pulled.
Both the NNA "mini-guns" and Bond Arms derringers are very safe guns to carry.

Re: Derringers and revolvers without trigger guard
NA Arms also has the folding version of their derringer that I think adds more safety to carrying them. All the safety features mentioned in this thread plus the gun folds into the grip. Makes for a slower reaction if needed but it also takes up less room in your pocket.
