$400. to $475. Would be fair in my opinion, maybe a bit more with box and papers

Thanks, I'm at the low end of that. I see them on line for $1,000, $1,395 - asking of course. Seem to sell for $400-$600

You didn't say what caliber - while everyone assumes 9mm, it was also 7.65mm (.30 Luger)

From 34th Edition "Blue Book of Gun Values" @ 2013:

Model 3902 Alloy Frame (Later Production): 7.65mm(.30 Luger) or 9mm Para. cal., double action, 8 shot mag, 4 in. barrel, checkered walnut grips, adj. sight, allow frame, approx. 1971, the 3902 was introduced as an improved version. Mfg. 1970-82.

    9mm Para. cal. values:

    100%: $550
    98% : $375
    95%: $325
    90%: $260

    7.65mm cal.:

    100%: $1,375
    98% : $1,250
    95% : $1,100
    90% : $950

    Add 15% for nickel finish.

The .30 Luger cal. (7.65mm) was mfg. for the European marketplace only. Very hard to find in the U.S.

Thanks ! I wish it was 7.65 Standard 9mm. I'll post a pic in a min. Big drop from 100% to 98% on the 9mm - wow. It really is close to mint in 9mm.

$400 to $450 is about right for that gun based on that pic. Especially if the box and possibly papers are included.

Nice shooter, a little heavy, 8-rd single-stack magazine, very comfortable "P38"-feeling grip. I sold my 39 many years ago when I got hooked on the SIG P225/P6, but I kept the wide-butt sister, the Model 59.

    Cruzans, Noah's right ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Condition is a finicky thing, but yes, there is indeed a big difference (for collectors, anyways) between 95% and 100% in what folks are willing to pay. While some folks may have different points of view, in this economy, I have noticed that prices are migrating DOWN.

Now, I know this may not apply to your seller.

But it sure as hell applies to a 20 acre property we looked at with a really cool "dual" house, 3 different heating and cooling systems, mostly decripid out-buildings, and an asking price of $425K for a seller who has owned this property for two years.

So, where are the comparables? And for stuff that has really sold?

    They're at $325-335K.

"Yes, but I need $425K just to break-even on this...oh, and BTW, I put another $60K into it."

OK, so show me - wasn't possible. Maybe "Streaker's" pond overflowed and flooded their basement?

They are asking with totally unrealistic expectations. A BIN price above $1K for a Smith 39 is not realistic on any planet. A seller wishing it so does not make it so.

What prices show in "Completed Auctions" for Model 39s?

Fairly high completed auctions actually. Anywhere from $366 for a beater. Majority in the $425 - $850 range, average being $500 - $550 ish. A few selling for $900, $1,005, $1,300 and even one for $1,500 ! Crazy .............
