Default Review: Midway HD Tactical Rifle Case

I thought I'd post pics of a case I just got in from Midway USA.
Currently this model/color is on clearance for $13.19!
I paid $16.23 (clearance) just a week ago which was still a great deal.
(other patterns are currently on sale for $25)

Since it's new, I can't comment on durability - I'm just going to say that for the sale price, it seems to be a really nice case for someone like myself who just needs a case to transport to the range. If you plan on seeing combat, or bugging out, you may want to consider something a bit more pricey.

MidwayUSA Heavy Duty Tactical Rifle Case
Current link. Available in 11 patterns/colors. Note that solid color cases are 400D PVC coated polyester while camo cases are 600D PVC coated polyester.

Available in several lengths - this color shown now only available in 42" internal length. (that's the size I have pictured below)
Full specs including various case sizes are available at the above link.

I worried the case would be TOO big since I keep the length of pull on my stock relatively short. It's bigger than needed, but not too bad - for the price I'm not complaining.

On the front are 4 mag pouches, one velcro-close pocket in center and one large zippered compartment at the front end.

Back has a shoulder carry sling.

There's a loop at the front for hanging the case

Each zipper has rubbery pull loops and the main gun compartment zipper ends can be locked.

Front compartment has usable space from top to bottom. Middle pocket will hold small items or a 30 rd mag, but it will stick out the top.
Mag pouches hold either USGI or Magpul 30 rd mags - one per pocket - I tried two USGI, but clearly intended for one each. AK47 mags will fit, but barely - I don't recommend it. (I think the sharp edges on the bottom of the steel AK mag will rub through the pocket in the long run)

The zippers allow the case to open fully and lay flat. Inside are two Velcro straps for securing your rifle which can be placed at the location best suited for your rifle.

I chose my heaviest, scoped carbine to try out first. It fits just fine. (and would fit in a 36" case as well)

Closed case with carbine and 4 loaded mags.

The case seems well padded for one in this price range and the material more durable than most of the cheap "tactical" cases found in Walmart and such.
For it's price point I'd give it 5 stars out of 5.
There are certainly higher quality cases on the market, but this case is a good balance of quality and price.

    Thanks for looking!

Oh, and if you don't know the "secret" for getting reduced shipping at Midway, just ask.
I explained it in the "Deals" thread.

Nice review! I have a few hard cases but they're a bit clunky.

What's the secret for shipping at Midway? What post # in the deals thread?

Here's a copy/paste of what I posted in the deals thread...

Midway USA REDUCED SHIPPING "code" Semi-secret.

I had seen this mentioned somewhere before but forgot about it.
I was browsing the above gun cases and found a smoking hot deal that even I could afford at $16.
Problem is the shipping was $13. Fuck it - that's too much. "I wonder if there are any current codes???"

I found this and tried it. It's a link to thousands of items that, when added to your cart, reduce the shipping cost SIGNIFICANTLY.
Even adding a piddly little $3 item will work.

I found an item for $10 that I could actually use (no sense buying needlessly just to reduce shipping) and
my shipping went from $13.50 down to $2.60!!!

    Check it out!

First a link on Slickguns. (where it says "Coupon code: "Add to cart")

Here is the DIRECT MIDWAY LINK to items that will reduce your shipping total.

    MovingtoAmerica then posted the following..

I always go up to the "free Shipping' Tab and get the baliyo pen refills. They are $0.59 and they will reduce the shipping cost to next to nothing. That is the cheapest free ship item I have found that will do this.

I ordered 2 of those when posted. They were $14.26 each at that time. I tossed in a gerber pocket knife sharpener ($3) and dropped my shipping to $6.25 which was a hell of a lot less than it had been. I didn't have time to search for more ways to lower the cost. I don't presently understand the system. I guess one needs a lot of time to plug in different items.

I didn't need them for the scary guns, just for when I want to take a bunch of different guns to the range. They should suit my purpose.

Yeah, seems like a good value. At the time I ordered, I debated getting two due to the low price, but figured I'd wait and see if it was worth it first before spending the money on two. Now I wish I had - then again, the price has dropped further as we get closer to Black Friday.

This is a good time to save on a lot of Midway's bags/cases. I got the AR15 range bag last Black Friday for some super low price and it's a great bag.
