    Default Does FOPA cover D.C.?

Pretty sure I'm SOL on this but heading to Virginia (from Philly area) for Thanksgiving. Don't really want to be left unprotected and get blocked on some highway by protesters. Google Maps sends me through Maryland and D.C. to get to my destination in Virginia. I have a PA LTCF and both Utah and Florida CCW's, not that they help in the matter.

Looks like I'm good to go in Virginia itself but the real question is about traveling.

    What are my options?

Yes it does but no it does not. If you are caught in DC with a firearm you will be arrested and have to fight it in court costing you a lot of money. Also ammo is NOT covered by FOPA and in DC even a empty case will get you arrested. Stay out of DC.

It looks like I can stay on 495 and avoid D.C. all together. Am I ok traveling through Maryland?

That's really another iffy state... if you must drive through Maryland... do it expeditiously

Seriously... every joe smuck is gonna be on 95, the traffic is gonna drive you nuts, I80 would be longer but piece of mind

Google maps says my normal route through Maryland would be 2 hr 50 minutes and going through W.V to avoid Maryland would be 8 hr 54 minutes. Doesn't seem very reasonable.

8 hr 54 minutes vs. 5 years. Seems reasonable.

Overall... taking 81 adds like an half hour

I took it going to Florida.. trust me it's not that bad... you can do 80 the whole way

It would help if we knew our VA destination. However DC itself is not that big and I-495 (beltway) from what I can tell never crosses into DC territory. You still have to deal with MD though.
