Anyone tote a Marlin 1894?
I am debating picking one of these up. I know the current offerings from Henry are pretty nice. I have NOT handled a "new" RemMarlin 1894. If so, what loads are you running? What say you? As an aside, I always seem to pick up new rifles after the season is over. It gives me almost a whole year to prep for the next season. Crazy right?

Taking a Remlin 1894 in 45-70 deer hunting this year. It shoots clover leaf groups at 50yrds off a bench with factory 325grain Hornady Leverution ammo. 18" barrel all stainless with a synthetic stock and 1-4 scope.

I have a Henry big bore in .44 mag. It DEFINITELY gets the job done. The action is like warm butter compared to my Marlin .30-30 from the 90's era.
Derrion Albert was my Hero.

Re: Anyone tote a Marlin 1894?
I have two of them, both .44 magnums and both made in North Haven, Conn. (JM stamped) I find both to be extremely accurate and have hunted with both since 2002. I have taken a few deer with the one with the scope. I use both Remington 240 grain and Hornady 225 grain LEVERevolution. My shots have been under 50 yards as the terrain where I hunt is hardwoods and pine and some thick laurels and swamp. The ones I took were with 240 grain. But most of the deer that I have taken since 1969 have been with a .30-06. As far as the 1894's made by Remington I have heard both good and bad reports on them concerning fit and finish and operation, but I have never held one.

Re: Anyone tote a Marlin 1894?
I have an 1894 Marlin .44 that I'm guessing is a 1980s manufacturer. I've never looked up the serial number to verify, not sure why. It's a lot of fun to shoot. Range is nothing to get excited over so I've left it unscoped. I've run everything from 180gr HPs to 300gr soft points with no issues.

The first two serial numbers minus 100 will tell the year made in the older 1894's.
These folks are into them: http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/1894/
Picked a 1978 one late this summer and have just started seriously playing with it. Can ring 8" steel at 100 yds. off hand with my 245 gr casts. Hear these can be a challenge to shoot cast. Must of lucked out early.
Will defiantly be carrying it around later this month. Came scoped but plan to change to peep sights by next year.

Thank you all for the responses. I appreciate it. I currently have an 1895G in .45-70, but was looking to add another. I think I will do it.
