States across our country are decriminalizing drugs for recreational use. There is no reason suppressors should remain suppressed.

This really should be a more active thread so I'm bumping it for that and also I finally got a response after writing my legislators twice over the past month. You'll be shocked by Casey's response below...

    Dear Mr. Wildbill990:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about S. 2236, the Hearing Protection Act. I appreciate hearing from you about this issue.

Senator Mike Crapo introduced S. 2236 on November 4, 2015. The Hearing Protection Act would eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers. This bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Finance, of which I am a member. Should this legislation come up for consideration by the Committee, please be assured I will keep your views in mind.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter of importance to you.

For more information on this or other issues, I encourage you to visit my website, http://casey.senate.gov. I hope you will find this online office a comprehensive resource to stay up-to-date on my work in Washington, request assistance from my office or share with me your thoughts on the issues that matter most to you and to Pennsylvania.

    Sincerely,

    Bob Casey

    United States Senator

I am in favor of this bill passing, however what about the Prohibited offenses law in PA. Shouldn't we fix the part that allows sound supressors if one complied with the NFA act exception prior to this bill being signed into law? Its already being discussed in another thread, but whats the point of getting removing them from the NFA act if they are going to be ban by the PA crimes code and its going to be a misdemeanor -1?

These things happen in steps. It will be far easier to get our state government to repeal that section if the feds remove them from the NFA.

all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I just hope it isn't steps that lead current suppressor owners into the county jail.

Honestly they would have to change the verbiage at the state level. Can you imagine how many people would be committing a crime just because they had NFA approved items and overnight became a criminal since they are no longer NFA controlled.
